    Webcomic readers are generally very forgiving of missed updates, many comics go on random months-long hiatuses or update quite rarely in the first place so they generally only start getting worried if you're gone with no explanation for over a month or so (in my experience).
    So, if you miss one update (if you're updating weekly/bi-weeky or more) or are one day late, don't worry, just do the next one on time or upload the page when you're done a few days later or something like that.

    1. Keep it short
    2. Dont worry it too much
    3. Dont waste too much at the forefront
    4. Weird or wonky works are ok
    5. There's no perfect way to market things
    6. Focus on the story what you really like

    Let her tell you what she wished she'd known, when she was young and dreamed of glory; you have no control, who shares, who likes, who reads your comic

    Thank you so much for writing this... I've been having a self-worth crisis this past week over my comics and frustrations with my art. I found this advice so hard to believe going in... but hearing it from so many people, especially you guys; is helping me slowly start to believe.
    I just wonder, and I ask a lot of people this, when did you guys start to feel good about your art? I know no one's ever satisfied, but just... good.

      I am starting to feel more comfortable with my art, because I finally go in the direction I want to go with it. My main inspiration is Old Xian, so I am going in that direction and "copy" some parts of her (and others) style that I really like. Altho I do still struggle a lot, I feel more💕🏵 comfortable with it

      I look back at my old art and then look at my current art and i can see ‘yeah, its not perfect but its better now’ sometimes just looking at your current art may make you wonder if its good enough but look back, see where you have come from see how much you have improved.

    Hahaha I totally ignored the advice about not doing a long opus as a first project. I'm still plugging away at it. Doing it in sections. First book is printed.

    cool tips! one questions though - let's say I want to go with no more than a 100 pages. how do i calculate that? is it supposed to be like one page of script equals one page of comic?

      They have a video that can help it’s called “ How to determine your comic length”

    • @teaartist6455
      @teaartist6455 5 років тому +1

      I'd say just look at a few pages, some with more dialog, some with more action, and consider how many pages of comic they might each convert to.
      Then consider how much dialog-heavy scenes and how much actiony/silent scenes there are, then do this:
      (Pages per silent page)*(percentage of the writing in decimals (so if it's 40% of the work, write 0.4))+(Pages per talking page)*(Percentage of the writing in decimals (in this case 0.6))
      Then take the number you get, which is the average number of comic pages per written page, times the number of written pages.
      So, in my comic, that'd be:
      (4*0.9+15*0.1)*80
      =406
      So, taking into account that I just very quickly eyeballed this in a few seconds and haven't actually measured anything, that would be between 380 and 430 or so.
      I only did some very rough estimates, the more precisely you work the closer you'll get.

    • @teaartist6455
      @teaartist6455 5 років тому +2

      Also, doing the "How to estimate comic length" test it would be about 180-240 (actual count: 380-430), so keep in mind that the estimate from the video is not necessarily accurate depending on what exactly you're doing.

    You're really motivating me to continue my comic (both of you)
    And omg I drew comic since my 16s and still do at 25 xD just seeing I barely have the same timing kof
    As of starting, I wished I knew a bit of theory on doing scenarios and stuff because it's what put me down for every comic I drew. Drawing and showing off, I had no illusion about that and I'm just someone with a very low quality standard but everyone always complained about my scenarios while I was getting better at drawing so I wish I had more interess in that and did not regret some comics I put all my skills in but cannot be red as the story is a mess =(

    Would it be smart then to treat each volume of a comic as it's own separate small project that's part of a larger story?

    • @jhuh24
      @jhuh24 4 роки тому +4

      yes, it is a great way to break up your work flow and it can allow you to take breaks between volume. As long as you have an idea how you want your plot pieces to connect together ( like with a simple outline). But don't overstress on that part either

    One good lesson to learn is it's okay to fail and give up on a project. Sometimes things just don't work out, you realize you've bitten off way more then you can chew, just be honest with your audience and move onto something else. Don't try and lie or trick people or steal money or something like that

    Do you have any advice if you already started a long comic project as your first comic? I'm going well until now, but I would like to know some of your advice to keep going and what could I do if I want to make a short comic to practice before I continue or something like that

    • @nicholasfitzgerald585
      @nicholasfitzgerald585 5 років тому +2

      That'll probably depend on your following and story. Otherwise if not, if the story allows it Perhaps make a short story within your long story. Only example I can think of right on the top of my head is Sort of like how in bleach, there's these group called vizards. And at a certain point in the Manga the author wrote how they became who they became. They're orgin story if you will.
      I didn't write my long story yet but I'm doing something kinda similar in that I'm writing short stories within the same universe before I dive in the long story.

      I'd say just keep at it and make sure to do pages relatively quickly and to update regularly, nothing kills comics like needing a month for every page, both because the readership has to wait ages and because you need a very long time to do it, meaning that you'll take years even for a short story.

    i feel like if you hate the art of a comic, change it. nobody cares unless you have a huge following. if you have the time, you could even go on hiatus and re-draw the original art.
