- Away The Travel Trolls Go! We finally get on the ferry after getting our motorhome searched as we entered the port in Plymouth. Then more antics as Mazzy takes sick before the anchor is lifted. It wasn't the easiest of journeys without a cabin to sleep in but somehow we made it all the way here and thanks to our Rural Internet (link further down), we managed to bring you this video from Spain. A good nights rest ahead and then let the adventures begin!!

My wife and I did the same crossing in 2005. I was freelancing for MMM magazine and had to cover Spain and it's attractions in two days! We went aboard the same vessel, the Pont Aven. Freelancing worked like this. 1: Test a motorhome, in thuis case a Marqis A Class. 2: Go to wherever and stay at a campsite, then blag my way into whichever sttractions/restaurants/stores that were to be covered. Publishing to 36,000 readers helped - all concerned liked a free ad. 3: get the notes, take th p ictures, write the articlas and get them in on deadline. My wife suffered seasickness in the Bay of Biscay but a combination of Prosecco and Dramamine did the trick as usual. My cast-iron stomach nver rebelled on the water. We had a cabin, which was pleasant. The magazine picked up all the tabs, fuel, insurance, campsites and expenses. However, as freelancing does, it all came to a halt with the 2006 recession. Happy days, retired now.
Thanks for taking us with you on your journey I'm sorry you were poorly Mazzy but I'm sure you will both enjoy yourselves and take care xx
Awww, hope you both had a restful night after that arduous journey, sorry Mazzy wasn’t well, definitely book a cabin for the return. Hope all goes smoothly for the rest of your trip. Looking forward to seeing some fun vlogs over the coming weeks x take care guys x
Mazzy so sorry you had such a bad trip. You both need some well earned rest now. Thankyou Dan for showing us some parts of the journey. Cant wait to see the vlogs of your upcoming holiday. Take care, rest up and recharge yourselves ready to enjoy your trip. ❤❤❤❤❤
That ferry is HUGE and really nice. It's good to see that you are driving on the proper side of the road now. :)
Thank you for taking us in your journey over to Spain.I felt excited for you as know that feeling as soon as you reach the ferry port excitement and a little bit of nerves Safe travels look forward to following the rest of your journeys in Spain.
Well done to you both, you made it! Time to calm down and chill. No rush and no worries about struggling to find somewhere to stay, and no costly site fees! Looking forward to sharing your journey. Done France a few times but not Spain yet.
Great to see you arrive safely, i'm just sorry that Mazzy had a bad sea crossing. Thanks Dan for recording what you could it was really interesting seeing you driving into the ship and on the decks. Looking forward to your adventures around Spain as always stay safe and well. 👍
Such a shame with Mazzy suffering from sea sickness. I’ve no doubt it’s a horrible thing I’m one of the lucky ones who has never suffered from sea sickness on the occasions I have been on ferries. I’m sure there are better times around the corner for you guys. There will be lots of happy memories to be made when you arrive in Spain. Take care.🚐😎👍✋
Aww Mazzy, I’m glad I’m not the only one to do daft things when I’m in a bit of a panic. My Auntie had the sickness on boats ,she was hanging over the boat being sick and her false teeth shot out and my mum managed to catch them.😂 phew!
Used to love those empty crossings on the Pont Avon. I have done that with the family many times with the family to France. Great boat.
Poor(ly) Mazzie.I really felt for you. I was only on a ferry to France for five hours and I was billious. You gave us( despite Mazzie being ill) a great vlog of travelling to Spain on the Ferry and I'm glad you got there safe and cant wait to see your adventures in Sunny Spain. respect and regards-Kenny.
Congratulations on your arrival guys, happy times ahead, lovely video 😻😻
Corrr those rolls ❤ .. lovely. I had to do Cornwall to plymouth to Roskoff, drive to Denia, boat a ross to here .. to get my dog here. I was in a 1998 off road Land Rover discovery that was slow and rolled like an arse in a gale. I did it though and like doing it. That warm Spanish wind.. i hear you.. its beautiful. My inly regret was i didnt move here sooner. ❤
My first time on a ship, was in 1946, heading to Hawaii to meet up with dad, who was stationed there in the Navy... Don't remember that one.. I was not even one yet.. I turn 77 Saturday.. lol Man I'm gettin old.
Back in 1955, Mom, my brother and sister, and I spent 2 weeks on a ship, going to Guam In the Pacific.. Navy move again. Sea Sick for a day or so.. but then someone showed me how to stand and walk on a rocking ship.. and I never got sea sick again.. Even when I spent 2 years on an Aircraft Carrier in the late 60s.. When the ship rocks one way.. you lean the opposite way.. It works.. I love the ocean.. and here I sit in the middle of the mountains of Montana. USA... haha
Loved the video guys.. I felt for Mazzy.. nothing worse than being sea sick..
I think that wrist band must of worked... cus she was seeming a lot better walking with you on deck... I have a friend who wore those when he was going through Kemo a few years back.. Killed that type of motion sickness...
Really enjoyed this one,I havent been on a ferry for 40 years and I remember the toilets being blocked on a very rough crossing I was only 10,Mazzy looked quite poorly bless her, hopefully your return will be much better-Hola spain btw!
We were searched in our caravan too. We’re there no cabins left? It’s a long journey in chairs it is worth the extra money, bed and shower! . See if you can get one on way home, they are cheaper on return. Brittany …… French , lol that’s why they use French first! You made me laugh , wrong boat 😂 some people take travel tabs a few hours before journey , they knock you out . Put your watch on your right hand, that hand is always next to kerb, passenger side in centre of road. That’s how I remember, soon it will be second nature to you .Looking forward to joining you both in Spain xx❤️
Glad you arrived safely, rest and recoup, look forward to the next episode 🙏
You two are just AMAZING!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this first part of your adventure.
So sorry to see you so unwell Mazzy. We hope you will find travel tablets in Spain, if not let us know and maybe we can send some over if you stay in the same place for a few days👍🤞💝 Travel tablets for them to work you start taking them a few hours BEFORE you go into the ship. I also get sea sick and although even after taking the tablet I still feel strange in my head but not as sick as when I don’t take them.
And Mazzy it’s amazing how beautiful you look after feeling so unwell.
We loved your conversation with John! HILARIOUS.
We hope you both had a good night sleep after this long journey. We so enjoyed this episode. Thank you💝💝💝
Love from Ozay and Ahiranta of The Happy Life Show💝
Dan you are true Yorkshire man. You get what you pay for, so get a cabin next time. Glad you are better Mazzy, not a nice journey, sorry to see you not well. Looking forward to your onward journey. 🤣
I really enjoyed this video. Sorry Mazzy didn't feel well. I've been I've been on a short ferry trip several times in good weather & rough, always enjoyed it. I'm happy y'all are safe in Spain. Looking forward to adventure! ❤💙💜💚💛
Just found this it’s a good watch but lessons to be learnt when going to Spain from the uk by ferry get a cabin you can sleep shower and somewhere just to rest. Happy travels.
I’m so excited for you on your Spanish trip. Poor Mazzy feeling ill on the ferry. Hopefully you are feeling better now and starting to enjoy your holiday 😎☀️I would be interested to see how you get on with rural internet abroad, as we use rural internet in the UK and it is great.😊
Exciting! So glad to see you’re finally in Spain. Sorry to hear that Mazzy got seasick
Nice easy process boarding the boat staff were very organised.Sorry you felt ill Mazzy enjoy your sleep 😍
I'm so excited for you both. Looking forward to your videos.
Really interesting thanks for sharing, hope your feeling better Mazzy. Drive safe 😊
Thanks for a great video looking forward to following your Spanish adventures 🥂👍
We did the overnight Plymouth to Santander when the kids were small in the mid ninties, great cabin, smooth sailing very enjoyable.
At that time we rented a gite from Brittany ferries.
Bought a MH this year,2019 Bessacarr so planning for next year.
Great video, thanks Dan and Mazzy.
Great Video! ❤ Even I’m getting excited about your holiday! 🥳 Nerves are normal 👍😘
The reason crew were French is in the name, "Brittany" Ferries !! We had terrible rough seas across the Bay Of Biscay, but I loved it. We were having dinner and all but me of our group had to make excuses and leave the table !!
Yay! Loved this vlog and glad you made it to your park up! Get some good rest and hit the ground running in the morning!
Great video Dan n mazzy enjoy your travels keep safe 👍👍
Brilliant I really enjoyed your trip 😀 Well done & have a fab time.
Hope you have a great time thanks for sharing with us
Hola... Feel Excited for you, have a fabulous time look forward to catching up with you on your Spanish journey
What a trip. I hope you both feel better. Have fun stay safe.💕💕
The great Pont Aven boat, the only time I've seen water in the pool, was years ago and they had to empty it because the sea was so rough... glad to see you were feeling better early morning Mazzie. Bon voyage. Way up the pros and cons of travelling back driving through France and catching a ferry back to UK, cheaper ferries are from Calais-Dover Dunkirk-Dover and shorter crossings for Mazzie.
Being in the Navy. You have to eat to line your stomache you will be surprised how many muscles you use on a pitching and rolling ship. Hence you felt tired. Always take sea sick pills at least 12hours before sailing. Drink water too. Go to the upper deck fresh air and seeing the horizon helps. Enjoy your trip to Spain. Dave in Australia 🇦🇺
She said she knew she could be sea sick. So why wouldn't you bring them with you.
I'm prone to it and always take medication before embarkation.
Lesson learned I suppose.
Im a newby to your channel and absolutely loving your spain vlogs , your a lovely couple and love how you look after each other 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
So glad you have arrived , Mazzy that must have been a long 20 hours . Take good care both of you x
Brilliant to watch your travel adventures.. Sorry Mazzy was sick. The French speaking at the start of your journey is because the vessel you’re on ( Pont Aven ) is French registered 🇫🇷 ( Morlaix )
Brittany ferries are a French company, that’s why the announcements are in French with English and Spanish added on. It always looks like they’ll never get everyone on the boat before departure, but once you’re in that queue on the dockside you’re going to get on, they won’t leave you behind. I don’t think I’ve ever been on a Brittany ferry that’s left on time yet, they’ve always left a few minutes late, but over the time you travel they can go a bit faster and make up the time to arrive on time.
I did thought you were optimistic about the sleeper seats, I’ve tried them in the past, it was hopeless there was no way I was ever going to get any sleep on one of those. Ok I’m a big lad, 6’ 3” and around 140Kg, but the seats don’t recline very far they are cramped and the sound of snoring meant there was no way I was ever getting to sleep. So now when I do a ferry trip I either have a cabin or if they are fully booked out I’ll find a quiet corner put a blanket down and sleep on the floor. The extra few quid for a cabin is well worth it, proper bed with your own toilet and shower plus it gives you somewhere to go and properly lay down if you do get motion sickness like Mazzy.
Really nice to see the excitement on your journey
Very entertaining
Loved that video, you make me laugh sooo much!! Have a good rest 😊xxx
Thanks muzzy and Dan you keep me entertained I am lying in. A hospital bed in my living room with a broken back,
I have used the seabands many times on cruises and boats or long car rides. They work for me. Looks like you might have yours on wrong. The rounded part of the white button needs to hit the pressure point on your wrist, not the flat part. Enjoy your trip!
So excited and I'm not even there. Can't wait to see what adventures you have. Take care but have fun.
sorry mazzie wasnt well, but happy to see you have arrived safely, get a good rest and look forward to sharing the rest of your adventures with you
Oh mazzy my grandson wore that sickness band on his arm at elbow xxc
glad you made it have fun
Have a great time guys
Great video - so down to earth and informative..(glad to know they don't sell travel sickness tablets) I speculative that Mazzy may have got ill because she wasn't facing the direction of travel. Sorry the trip wasn't great.. I am started to dread mine, and we have cabin.
Hi Dan and Mazzie hope you are both well. Please don’t let those negative posts bring you both down, the people that post them need to look at themselves and their life’s and that I am sure is where the problem lies. These ppl are in all walks of life and I have recently experienced it with dog walkers who walk my dog would you believe, rise above it and keep being yourselves, don’t let the idiots get you both down, sending Mazzie a big hug ❤ x
Well done guys and have a fab time in Spain xxx
We’ve been on the same ferry (Pont Aven), on the way back there was a storm and we were at the front of the ship in the cafeteria and out of the front window we just saw sea, sky, sea, sky.
But once in the middle of the ship the motion was much less as it’s like the fulcrum on a seesaw. Once in the cabin and in the bed just try and think your sleeping in the Motorhome and on a bumpy road.
Have a lovely time 👍😃
Hope you enjoy Spain 🇪🇸 i was actually born in Tarragona not far from Barcelona but we actually lived in a small town called Comarruga,my parents moved over there late 60s bought a motel.
My parents separated when i was 6 so my mum moved back to the UK 🇬🇧,but anyway hope you have a safe but fantastic time xx
What an exciting journey, hope you have an amazing time - you have us looking at prices now 😂 shame the ship seems to stop soon until end of March as cracking idea!
Take care and enjoy!
All the best, David & Rachel 👍
Happy days Viva Espana. Looking forward to your adventure.
Really enjoyed the Video, Sorry you were feeling Poorly Mazzie. Looking forward to your adventures in Spain. 😎
I panic too! It’s not easy 😂 but you did ace 🎉
Nice to see ya made it guy's enjoy👍👍
Great video, it can be hard work a long ferry crossing but you can relax now your in Spain , take it easy driving you’ll soon get used to it, don’t try and do too much your there for months, I’m well jealous of Mazzy with her Irish passport, being Irish is like winning the lottery of life
We had a rough outbound crossing to Santander. Our ferry a few years back flew an icelandic flag, and O2 stung me for using data from Iceland! We had a cabin with beds and luckily kept our food down. I think the journey back from from Bilbao and much calmer luckily. The Aire further out of Santander is by a wildlife reserve. Lovely lakeside parking and elephants in the next field, as you mentioned.
The sickness bands work for me. I’ve already seen your return journey, that was much better.
Poor mazzie I really felt for you I am lucky and have done that trip more than once, it will be worth it when you get there all the best both of you
Wishing you both a very enjoyable holiday in Spain 🇪🇸. My heart went out to you Mazzy and you feeling 🤮 sick on the ship. Dan you looked lost without Mazzy walking round .looking forward to your vlogs from spain.
New to the channel thank you you are both great love the channel paul in Kent ❤
Glad you made it safely to Spain. Sorry that you were sea sick Mazzie. Look forward to seeing you travelling about Spain xx
Thank you so much! Despite the seasickness, I'm excited to be in Spain and ready to explore. Your kind words mean a lot. Can't wait to share my Spanish adventures with you! xx
Glad you arrived OK! 😁 Mazy next time where you can, look at the Horizon and focus on it! It's a constant it doesnt move, it's the motion sickness really not Seasick as such! Kwells are good tablets to take! I find the rougher the sea the better for me! My first night out on Sea Trials on a Navy Frigate it was Blowing a Force 9 gale all night! Didn't even know! Annoying the fact the other side of the Bulkhead was the Hydraulic Pump for the Steering Gear! Real Noisey! Also being near Midships less movement just like a Seesaw! At times walking up the main Companion way on the ship, one minute looking at the deck next the Deckhead (ceiling)!! So pitching a lot! We've seen all 3 Cunard Ships at Weymouth the other year! 😁
Aww you made
It to Spain… we travelled to Bilbao in June this year via car n boat. You were brave not getting a cabin I wouldn’t have managed! Look forward to following you through Spain! I’m off to Barbados for a 2 week cruise on the 5th of November I’ll catch up when I’m home xx
Poor Mazzy. Gotta say, we are really looking forward to seeing your Spain trip, will be interesting/funny to see you a bit out of your comfort zone 😁

Awww poor Mazzy bless you glad you made it ok and now enjoy Spain, absolutely love northerners on tour such a lovely couple xxx
Went to Spain for the winter before covid and brexit and was so rough on the way to Spain that i spent the whole trip in my cabin lying on my bunk and rolled out of it twice with the rolling of the ship, couldn't stand up, then when covid started in the march we were all told to leave Spain, no ferry so had to book the tunnel and travel up through Spain and France then in uk all the way down to Cornwall, always loved spending the wnters in Spain, 6 months but haven't been since we can only stay for 90 days ,not worth all the expence but will see as time goes on, safe journey.
I am terribly seasick. I have the wrist bands you are supposed to "activate" (press the bead on the pressure point 10 times) them half hour before you board. Always stay in the centre of the boat where it rocks the least, not on the outside
You should have booked a cabin
Loving these videos
I'm so excited 😊
Oh Mazzy so sorry you suffered on the crossing. Defo get ginger tablets and sickness pills for the journey home. So excited for you both on your Spanish adventure! X
Have a fantastic time! XX
