Wow, I'm just watching this in March 2021. Ingrid is truly a natural. Very articulate and comfortable in front of the camera. All the best to her career.
I spent the 90s in Baguio as a student. It used to be much laid back - a walkable city with lesser vehicles plying the roads. I stayed at the Trancoville area and I used to walk to Mines View for a weekend breather. I passed through Brookside exiting at Teachers' Camp then inched my uphill climb to Pacdal and Mines View. I worked at UB as clinical instructor in 2007 leaving with a heavy heart the following year to pursue a nursing career in NZ. During my annual vacations over the next eight years, I had to travel to Baguio straight from Metro Manila to have a feel of the pulse of the city that I consider my second home before I took a trip home to Ifugao. Baguio is truly Cordillera's gem where the warmth of the people counters the chilly breeze of this great mountain city. Matagutagu takun amin!
Been in Baguio last december with my parents as a gift for their wedding anniversary. We flew all the way from Davao City to witness its beauty and cold weather. We've been to mount costa as well though nung nagpunta kami eh nagsisimula pa lang silang magtanim but it's worth the visit.Ang sarap balik balikan talaga.
I'm a Filipino American and it is so refreshing to see two young ladies speaking English at the beginning so I can understand. And the whole video features people who can actually express themselves in English well. Thank you very much. I was there with my sister and her husband earlier in the year (March 2020) when most of the places started to shutdown because of the pandemic. We were in Baguio but didn't get to see much. Hopefully we'll be able to visit again.
@@ericperedo131 Really? That's nice to know. Our driver in Baguio did speak English a lot better than some of the people we ran into in Manila. He also spoke a smattering of Ilocano which was the native tongue of our late parents so we understood that as well. However, we were very disappointed not only with the traffic but with the smog. It was not easy to breathe until it cleared up later in the afternoon when a breeze came by soon followed by some fog. All in all though, we enjoyed our stay in Baguio.
@@Errr717 Well sir sorry for that unwanted traffic jam and pollution. But oh man you are in the phillipines not the USA haha its good you overcome those bad things you encountered
I humbly encourage you to learn your late parents beloved language Ilokano. They also have a beautiful writing system I believe, called Kurdita. You will never lose your English, but your own mother tongue is special. It is a connection to your ancestors home country. It must have been such a culture shock for you to see the real Philippines - it is a developing country but it has so much to offer! I learned so much about my own culture (Kapampangan) and I wish I can go home (I’m in New Zealand). Philippines was once one of the most powerful kingdoms in south east Asia (before Spanish colonisation).

I think they should incorporate their local languages because there is so much “Tagalogness” going on already, it is not a dying language, while the other regional languages are being belittled and pushed aside (the Philippine education system rudely teaching the young generation that these languages are dialects). Many local languages are becoming endangered or already dead. Let us hear your beautiful mother tongue (not just Tagalog). I want to travel and experience the rich cultures of every region in Philippines, they shouldn’t be the same - that would be so boring.
When you said there are people who belittle Igorots for whatever reason, those people are ignorant. We should value and appreciate our indigenous people 💕🇵🇭

do you expect Baguio to stay ancient and undeveloped? Literally, the mayors don't own Baguio. they have no control on lands not owned by the government. Land owners have rights to build structures or whatever on their properties. . 🤣🤣🤣
where else should these people build their homes or your so called "squatter residences" aside from the hills? there's no flat area to build structures unless you want us to bulldoze the hills to flatten them just so you could not see these hills being "overrun by houses" Oh, we should've just left Baguio and go somewhere else, leave behind the land of our ancestors and let it stay undeveloped and not put into good use. Btw, I just looked out my window and yeah, the pine trees from my childhood are still there except for those destroyed by typhoons. the hills are still hills, covered with houses but never destroyed and flattened.
@@jananabanana422 if those are your ancestors' then why are you speaking for those who just came there..so its like you live in a subdivision and new people came overcrowding the supposed spacing of houses and you defend it?..di ba dapat ikaw pa maunang magalit?....know to argue when its applicable...
@@angel91485 I am not speaking for those whoever you are referring to. As far as i know, most houses are owned by the LOCALS rented to outsiders. What's the supposed spacing of houses you are referring to by the way? If you have that rule, well it doesn't apply in our case from what i can see. Your property your rules as long as you follow the required law and not build within public properties. How are houses supposed to be distanced from one another when the lands are individual and private properties, not real estate developed. My neighbors are my relatives, should i be mad at my nephews and nieces who decided to develop the properties given to them by their parents because they built their houses just a meter or two away from mine? These are private properties, I just can't tell them, oh don't build a house there, you're blocking my view of the sunset or whatever. If you're not from here, these lands are ancestral lands passed down from generation to generation, distributed to family members and it keeps going on and on and on so it's normal that houses are closed from one another coz they are most likely relatives or from the same indigenous group, and if you're from here, I wonder why you don't know this, it's pretty common. Those people who just came in you are referring to, they have money to buy a privately owned land, as long as it is done legally, there's nothing to be mad about. For mer owners have the right to sell them as well. Those squatters, wherever you see them shouldn't also be discriminated. There should be a balance between environmental protection and human welfare. We need houses. it's in our culture, from what i observe to allocate and transfer ownership of a portion of our property to our children as a gift incase they want to start a family and build a home hence what you see, houses so closed from one another. 😉Government cannot say no to that So yeah, know to argue when it's applicable.
