Browning Golden Eagle R-2700A CB band Receiver dead arcing IF can bad power supply caps repair test

Not normally on the D-lab bench. Testing the receiver for a friend. He was hopeful that it would be straight forward. Nope, someone had their fingers in there which caused the repair to turn major. I did what I could, however the fired IF can would be very hard to locate. Guess this one joins the bone yard!

Those were the Cadillacs of the 70's CB era. Big money back in the day.

It looked good after the bypassed resistors fixed, then s#~+! IF can arc🙁. Will be fun to see your fix.

Don't give up. That IF can can be rewound and the silver mica cap inside replaced by a trimmer below. You got this!

yes like a zenith they are bad for that,,,i have many of them ..fixed a lot in dayton not bad to fix

It will make a swell practice amplifier! Make it a series filament style 50C5, 35W4, 12A?7(x3), upgrade the speaker.
