What was done with the old Securitate prisons and with Ceausescu's residences?

I know it's not going to be taken well, but I do find Bucharest as one of the most underwhelming European capitals. Even way poorer Tbilisi, Georgia or Kiev, Ukraine look times better. That said - I've been all over Romania and it truly has some amazing towns - Brasov, Sibiu, Sighisoara. My wife's Moldovan with dual Romanian citizenship and she told me Iasi is also very beautiful. Also, props for Romania for doing very well economically!

Bucharest is not really underwhelming. It is a very large city, one of the largest in whole Europe. Unfortunately, and ironically, the area around the Old Town, which is practically the closest to the center doesn’t look the best. If you go to the northern and especially northwestern part of the city, it looks very beautiful. Sometimes even suburb neighbourhoods look much better than the areas close to the center.

@@rusaa5293 Can you name some of those suburb areas so that I can check them next time I visit? Thnx

@@gunitg1378 Sure, you can go to Pipera, Floreasca, Dristor... the first two ones are quite modern, with high-rise glass buildings. The latter is mostly with large parks with lakes and normal tower blocks

@@rusaa5293 Okay, so I beg to differ. I will point out the minuses: quite overbuilt, with narrow sidewalks with cars parked on them. How do you walk your kid/use a stroller in such environment? Where do your kids play? Public transport in Pipera seems not great either. How do you bike?
Romania has a similar standard of living and background like Poland/Hungary. I've been to Gdansk and Warsaw in Poland and I spent several months living in Budapest. Please, visit those cities and compare the public spaces, transport, bike infrastructure, traffic, pedestrian zones to Bucharest. You won't like the comparison at all. 2 months ago I had a sleep over in Bucharest and people had used tires and half full water bottles to save up public parking spaces in front of their commie block/house. I mean, that's ultra peasant, let's be honest.
I will repeat once again - Sibiu, Brasov, Cluj - amazingly beautiful, no worse than any other European town of similar size. Cluj also has way better public spaces and developed bike/pedestrian infrastructure. Bucharest, however...nah...

@@gunitg1378 I have been to Budapest and except for the fact that it has much less traffic, it is not a wow.
Pipera is ok. I don’t know where you walked in Pipera. Yes, it is true that there are many places where cars are parked on the sidewalk, but it is legal as long as you let 1m between the car and the building. In most cases, there is a lane on every street where cars are parked on, so please stop exaggerating that this happens everywhere and there is no space for pedestrians anywhere. This mostly happens on narrow streets of houses.
To donwgrade the public spaces of Bucharest is pure nonsense. Most probably you visited a playing ground in Bucharest. The city has huge parks, with a lot of trees, large lakes, fresh air and are the cleanest I have seen in Europe.
I think you are extremely biased. But yes; the bike infrustructure has to be improved and so must be a portion of the transportation system in order to reduce traffic.
