    No one mentions that this is Yang Jun the inheritor of the Yang style. I only took a few lessons at his school in Seattle when I lived there. I find most Tai Ji people a bunch of creeps. Everyone is a master and everyone is smug. Yang Jun was nothing like that. He was a humble, sweet and personable gentleman. If you are studying Yang style this is what you should be learning.

    Took several immersion workshops with Yang Jun and his Grandfather
    Yang Zhen Do in mid 90's. Exacting and clear, compressing entire Yang Solo, Sword & Sabre set in a week.
    Good times, he looks great, Blessings to Yang Zhen Do.

    Tai chi is a martial art, and it is pure magic, it gives everyone what they need, whether young or old. It provides subtle and hidden tools and abilities that each person can take advantage of according to their needs. I can say from my own experience that my courage, confidence and self-assurance grew exponentially with its practice and when I have found myself in situations where my life or my safety was in trouble, my tai chi has quickly and unusually gotten me out of that situation almost effortlessly. health for all.

    A beautiful performance. Perfect execution of footwork, well coordinated with movements of hands and body. Amazing self-control. This is an inspiring performance by a great master of Yang Style Tai Chi. I have watched this video many times, and each time I notice small details that I did not notice before.

    I studied Yang-style for a few months about ten or so years ago, but had to quit when the only studio/dojo around that taught it closed down. Sadly I did not keep up with it and I’ve forgotten almost all of it. Now at a few months shy of 42 and with an abominably bad lower back and arthritis I wish that I would have kept up on it as it would have been a low impact and relatively painless exercise to keep me lumber.
    I got the lumbago; it’s real serious, that lumbago.
    Thanks for the excellent video and demonstration!

    Thank you :) there is so much more in this than any other Taiji I have seen in film.
    of course he is popping the moves its a gift to the world not a measure of ego which
    hopefully we will all lose on the path. Having learnt a little Taiji and a little Wugong I know that if I follow this man I will learn the truth.
    In a world of greed and suffering I am amazed that he has given the entire form away for free.
    But then again maybe I shouldn't be :)

    This is Yang Jun, the grandson of Yang Zhenduo, who are both descendents of Yang Luchan, the creator of Yang Style Tai Chi.
    His movements are perfect, which is obviously a result of years of training/practice under the guidance of his grandfather, all following Yang style Tai Chi principles, where the movements are done slowly and at an even pace, etc...
    I have never met Yang Jun so I do not know if he can fight or not but I assume that he has had the original fighting art passed down to him. Otherwise, it would be sad to see the fighting art lost, and only an empty form remaining - unless some other practitioner has kept the fighting art, and I think there are...
    Those who know Tai Chi know that if you only learn how to perform the 108 moves, and nothing more, you won't last ten seconds inside a cage. You need to learn the martial applications, and spar with many partners - not push hands, that's not good enough, you need to actually kickass and whack your opponent and get whacked. Absent that, you only learned an early morning exercise which is especially good for the elderly.

    • @MsCamton
      @MsCamton  7 років тому +5

      I personally think that Tai Chi is a physical exercise. This is not suitable for fighting.

    • @yangchensun5546
      @yangchensun5546 7 років тому +5

      Name me any form of full body contact martial art, say Muay Thai Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Silat, whatever...I can easily take their attack and defence moves, and slow the movements down, give a poetic name to each of the moves, and then string them up as I like into a form of slow dance like the above. This is what Tai Chi is.
      Then, when you watch me performing, you might say, "Ah! Muay Thai, BJJ, Karate, Silat..all these are good forms of exercise (for the elderly) and useless in unarmed combat!"
      There is a UA-cam video of a so called Tai Chi master who got his ass kicked by a MMA instructor because he only learned how to do a Form, but not the martial applications. My guess is that 99% of Tai Chi practitioners learn Tai Chi either for mental relaxation, spiritual feel-good, health . . . and only 1% actually learn it for self defence.
      I agree with you up to a point, that w/o its martial applicationa, Tai Chi is only a form of exercise --- and only for the elderly with limitations in mobility. For the young, I would suggest they go to a gym plus do some jogging, or just go play soccer or basketball which would keep them fitter.
      There are arguments that Tai Chi is good for health, so in that case, it might be suitable even for the young. Being fit and being healthy are two different things...

    • @DrunkenDarwin
      @DrunkenDarwin 7 років тому +4

      I studied at his main school in Seattle for a while and from what i can tell from his instructors who I've had opportunity to push hands with yes their kung fu is real.

    • @yangchensun5546
      @yangchensun5546 7 років тому +2

      @ DrunkenDarwin
      Tai Chi is a martial art, and it does not cease to be one just because old folks practise it every morning to try and keep themselves healthy.
      Yang Style Tai Chi was derived from Chen Style Tai Chi which was created by an ex-army general Chen Wanting who fought in the battlefield. Chen Wanting created Tai Chi during his retirement based on how he fought in combats of life and death.
      Still, if we only learn the Forms without learning the martial applications and sparring, we are only learning a martial dance. Learning push hands is not enough. You need to spar, and spar with more than one person.
      It's the same with other martial arts, say, karate. If you only learn the kata but not the martial applications, and you have never sparred with people, then you've only learned a Japanese dance. You won't last ten seconds inside the cage.

    • @DrunkenDarwin
      @DrunkenDarwin 7 років тому +4

      I agree! I don't want people to lose the martial aspect of taiji.
      Old people have a right to learn it for their health. Younger people who want to learn the art of fighting can do it for that too. Its my dream that martial arts schools can openly exchange between styles so all of them can become more complete through testing and experience. I hate that things like MMA get all the attention when the techniques found in internal martial arts are much higher quality albeit much harder to learn how to execute.

    Is this just for teaching/demo purposes? I ask because it looks kind of robotic with jerky stops at the transition points. (Maybe it is supposed to be that way, but one of the principles is continuous movement, hence the question).

    • @DrunkenDarwin
      @DrunkenDarwin 7 років тому +4

      It's still a continuous flow because the tempo does not change. The "stops" show clear moments when jing is expressed and gives you a picture frame for the end posture. It also shows the transition from taiji to wuji and back to taiji.

    • @davyj5216
      @davyj5216 7 років тому +1

      Indeed, and I was inclined to think this too, however, it does not look like an expression of jing anymore than the movement of bodypopping dancers. Of course, it's a video, so it's hard to tell just from this. Therefore giving the benefit of any doubt on my part. :)

    • @DrunkenDarwin
      @DrunkenDarwin 7 років тому +2

      You have to understand taiji with your mind. Practice the form once as slowly as you can without making any errors in the principles. Then again as fast as you can without breaking any principles. Then once more with a balance of the two. You'll feel it. As long as you're clever you can deduce the myriad martial applications of the 8 energies.

    • @davyj5216
      @davyj5216 7 років тому

      Of course... I think I am just looking at the inadequacies of videos when it comes to how fine detail is displayed. Obviously not as good as being taught one to one. Sorry, not having a dig at Yang Jun, just jawing about the utility of video.

    Very nicely done - I had read that Yang Tai Chi was lost when the concurring Manchurians asked / forced the house of Yang to teach them Tai Chi. The Yang family taught them a false version and that's the version widely known today. The true Yang Tai Chi was lost. Is this accurate ?

    • @Miserableplace
      @Miserableplace 6 років тому

      If that is true then it would mean that the Yang family has lost their own style. The style shown in the video is the style taught by the real Yang family. So if that is not the true style, then they have lost their own style. But they obviously believe this is the true style, because this is the style they teach and practice. Furthermore, there is a continuous line of father to son transmission, so it is highly likely that this is the true style. Does that make sense? :D

    • @donnchadhmcginley3153
      @donnchadhmcginley3153 6 років тому

      I don't see how, this would be to say that all Tai Chi is not the real Tai Chi. All lineages we're separate but also mixed, even different styles. But I get what you mean. Fajin is lost in Yang style these days or at best hidden, like the more complicated movements are gone from Chen

    • @LisanAlCohol
      @LisanAlCohol 5 років тому

      Tai Chi movements seen above are derived from a book, talking about the theory of tai chi. The chen style, yang style etc. are based on the intrepretations of the lost/hidden text. All styles are similar, yet different.
