I think some women have the “my bf can’t play video games” thing because some men take it to the extreme and game all the time rather than be an equal partner and share household responsibilities. My bf likes to game for an hour or two after work every day and I have no problem with it since we both have tasks around the house that we do, like dishes and cooking. It can get exhausting if one partner is expected to take care of all the chores while the other gets to enjoy leisure activities

Haha yes exactly. Big difference between a hobby and an addiction. My ex-husband is addicted to gaming, a cheater, and a neglectful dad. He’d act like I was some kind of nagging b for pointing out the constant gaming when we were married. He wouldn’t even download games I liked so we could play together and he only had 1 controller😂. Now 5 years later.. my boyfriend and I play video games together and my son is included.

It isn't when you break it down, saying things like, "You don't know how to do your taxes yet," and stuff like that is just a great way to make young people even more uncomfortable to talk about these things. School should be teaching us since our parents are just assuming we would just know when we are an adult.
Plus, your facts are wrong, our brain is in a constant state of change from the time it first starts developing until the time you, or even I, die. Brain SIZE does not change much in your 20s unless there is some sort of traumatic injury or surgery.
What you may be referring to is the brain maturing. But, even then, people in their late 20s could still have a maturing brain. The last thing that matures is the frontal lobe and that's what a lot of people argue is the area of the brain that young adults struggle with the most.
But, the frontal lobe is not the only portion of the brain associated with planning, reward, motivation, etc. The frontal lobe, and more specifically the prefrontal cortex, is the area where (we assume) we process abstract thought. In other words, it's where we think a large portion of our imagination might reside, and where we process ideas and scenarios that we have not encountered yet. Things like planning and such are here as well.
That is what I think you may be referring to, but I'm not sure because brains are always developing in some manner, and his "aggression" (for lack of a better word) against young adults that are just trying to live life and be free to figure out what they know they're going to do in life is not beneficial to... anyone.
But, I do agree that spoiled people, like the ones in the show, are not going to be ready when life hits them.

My theory regarding why the step family type stuff was always prominent on the hub so to speak, was that it's a taboo/ forbidden thing, which increases the appeal. (People are attracted to doing the things they shouldn't etc) Similar to how forbidden romances are a popular subgenre. That just increases the effectiveness of the "excitement".

And then there's people that argue that they're (Allison and Luther) not blood related, so it's okay. They are adopted siblings that grew up in the same household from when they were babies! I have an ex who is into gaming, or was when I dated him. It wasn't a problem for me until it was literally all he did when he wasn't working. He would come home & without even saying hi to me, would turn off the show I was watching to game. He would also ignore our child, like one time I was really sick & our son was begging his Dad to change his diaper & he kept saying "in a min"...this went on for too long so I changed him. His gaming ruined our relationship cuz who wants to be with someone who ignores your existence every day?
He proceeded to do the same thing with his next relationship, who he married. I made an effort to get along with her & eventually she started bitching to me about him, lol. He was doing the same thing...gaming after work til he went to bed & ignoring his wife & their kids, & she let it slip that on the wkends my son was there he was gaming instead of spending time w/ his child. My son hasn't spoken to his Dad in 10 yrs, due to his Dad ignoring him & never making an effort with him, acting like seeing him twice a month was enough...which obviously wasn't enough for my kid.
My ex is on his 3rd family. I hope he's learned. He's been with this one longer than he was with me or his 1st wife. I don't know cuz my kid cut off contact so I have no reason to speak to his Dad.
Having interests / hobbies is fine, but when those interests start to negatively impact your relationship, say for example, too much money is being spent on the hobby & your wife has to ask her sister to buy groceries to feed the stepkids (true story, I'm the sister) more than once maybe the interest needs to be set aside for awhile. Or when said interest starts taking over the house making it unusable (again my bro-in-law). Or when the interest means your partner doesn't have the time, energy, or money to have their own interest cuz their busy working, cleaning, taking care of kids & trying to pay bills & put food on the table by themselves. There has to be a balance between the relationship and the interest.

I read an article once about how adult videos are affecting younger generations for the worse. Basically younger generations have so much p**n available to them that they feel it is just normal. like it is normal to film yourself and do money shots and stuff like that.
The article also said that because people are so desensitized to adult films, people are looking for more risque and extreme genres. That's why the Step Mom, Step Sister genre is so popular now. It taps into a more taboo and forbidden nature. It is basically a feeling of "I know this is wrong and i will never do it but the forbidden taboo of it makes it hot"
I mean there are some sick people who are totally into banging their family and see nothing wrong with it. I think the majority of people who watch the "Step" genre , watch for the thrill of the taboo nature and not so much for the actual family aspect.
The genres will keep getting more extreme until it gets to a point where everyone says "you know what, we need to put a stop to these kinds of adult films."

Most people, from my understanding, that watch the "step" stuff don't actually have any sort of fantasy for people that are family to them. I know for the stepmom and stepdad stuff that it's more of a power dynamic thing that people like. As for the step sis or step bro stuff, because that usually involves like the whole "getting stuck" scenario, I still think it's, again, to do with a power dynamic sort of fantasy. Of course, there are always the weirdos that actually want to do things with family, but for most people that watch it, it tends to just be a power dynamic scenario that the people are ACTUALLY into and fantasize about.

If they’re just trying to figure out which one is their kid then it’s more of an investigative touch instead of sexualized contact. I mean unless the moms go crazy with the way they’re feeling on these “BOYS”. But they would have to know that one of them is going to be their son so it would be stupid to do that. When I was in my 20’s I moved to the city, I couldn’t get away fast enough. Now in my 30’s I live and pay rent for the apartment attached to my parents house. I just started my first career this year. I can’t imagine leaving again. I thought in my 20’s I’d like move to California or japan or whatever and have a cool career. Now I’m so happy to finally have an office job, alone most of the day, entering data. Seeing my family every day. Living in my small town, in the country. It’s heaven. I also didn’t know in my 20’s that I have severe anxiety and I’m going through getting diagnosed with autism. I didn’t know there were reasons for my struggles. I knew nothing in my 20’s. I feel like I’m just starting to figure life out a little. I feel like it’ll only get better.

Another big point is that people who play videogames typically game at night, when most couples are together. Especially if you dont live together and work during the day, you kind of have to pick between your romantic interest and your electronic interest. I game for 4-9 hours at a time, so I could see how that would be frustrating for the other person.

@@aurialirez 😞 I went thru the same thing ! Unfortunately got to the point where it felt like we were roommates and not even partners. After so many times I communicated these feelings , I realized I just wasnt as high a priority to him as he would say I was. I stopped believing his words and I saw no action, and so I just chose me first✌🏽

I think on the gaming thing brought up earlier a lot of people have an issue with it due to lack of balance. My boyfriend would ignore me for like 12 hours straight to play sea of thieves but whenever he wasn’t playing I was expected to be like RIGHT THERE for him, and whenever I would be wanting to hangout with my friends or game with my buddies he would spam me and call me and be upset I was ignoring him. Also a lot of “I promise to do this when I get off just give me 20 minutes” and then 3 hours has passed and it’s too late to go do the thing promised. A lot of my friends have brought up similar issues of a lack of balance with their partners regarding time and communication and expectations of living on their partners schedule.

About the videogame bit, the reason is because of the old school stigmas (that hasnt necessarily faded yet) that playing videogames is 1. For kids, 2. For people who have no lives 3. People who are boring.
Its a shame this still is because of how much videogames have influenced things in our lives and how videogames extend more than just the actual game (music, art, storytelling, etc).

Funny that you said 26. I turned 26 in November and I am so far from independent. I'm at the high end of the spectrum with ADHD, so I only just graduated in May. Two gap years at separate points. There were times my family suggested they just buy me an apartment and pay for my expenses for the rest of my life. The fact that I come from a well off family and have always been pampered probably hasn't helped my development. Don't know anything about taxes, salary, benefits, insurance, etc. My parents do everything from me. I'm so scared of being independent and wonder if I ever will be. Thinking back to those times we weren't sure if I could ever be a functioning member of society or if I'd just have to be provided for for the rest of my life. I don't know how long I'll be living with them, and I'm really lucky to come from such a fortunate family, given how much help I need. But I guess we all develop at our own paces. Maybe one day I'll be grown lol

I turned 26 in November too! ✌🏽😋 And I honestly got independent by jumping off the deep end with no floaties and no swimming skills whatsoever 😂 I just went about it figuring out what I use that I pay for (Spotify, electricity, water, rent, car) and who /how I have to paythem (online which most are these days or if there's a paper bill that comes in the mail) and just knowing when that bill is due. Taxes is a bit tricker honestly, I was able to do my first couple of years by myself but now I think I'll just start having a professional do them 😅it really is stressful! Don't beat yourself up too much, baby steps are still steps ! Maybe start by trying taking over an easy bill like a subscription or cellphone bill ?

I can relate. I'm in my mid 30s and I've only recently came to understand why I've never been able to fully cut that umbilical cord. There's a lot of trauma, depression and anxiety involved in my case and I feel like I missed out on a lot of growth, self exploration and development in my 20s.
It might feel like you have to conquer a mountain but you can only do that by taking that first step, so cut that mountain into tiny pieces and focus on those (Just like Lorena says in her comment above). Even the most experienced mountaineers never climb mountains in one go. They climb one portion of it, acclimatize to the altitude and come back down so they can reach a little higher on the next try. And even if you never reach the top that is totally fine. You will learn and grow a ton from even just giving it a go. And you might just discover you don't even want to climb mountains and want to go scuba diving instead ;)
I would suggest that if you want to become more self sufficient you make that wish clear to your parents. It sounds like they care a great deal about you so I'm sure they are willing to help you reach those goals. But I know from experience they just might not now how to do that. Keeping that umbilical cord intact is not something you do on your own so it might be just as difficult for them as it is for yourself. Talking about these things often is that very first step.
And remember that there is no shame in getting help. You could let your parents help you in becoming independent. For example, tell your parents that, instead of doing taxes for you, to teach you how to do them so that, over time, you can do them on your own. And of course professional help is always a good idea.
And look at it from the bright side, you are 26 so you still have plenty of time to figure it out. And then take a look at the women on this TLC show. They are in their 50s and appear to be totally lost in life. Judging from your comment you seem more mature than a lot of them, seriously.
I wish you all the best in your journey.

I also turned 26 in november hahah and i also have ADHD! I have never had parental support though, being a child who aged out of foster care(mom dead, dad druggie). I say, continue to be grateful for your parents help, it really is a blessing. And make some goals for yourself!!!! Buy a beautiful journal you'll enjoy opening, think of something small you want to accomplish by yourself (pick up groceries, pay a bill, set up an appointment), plan it out by writing it down, all the steps you need to take (labeling steps and checking them off help with my ADHD) and do that goal! You are capable! You are strong! Honestly, one step at a time, but keep taking steps. Plan them out one at a time and they'll get easier!

She’s cool with it because you make family time, woman who hate men that game is because those men don’t make family time. They are the ones who think 30 minutes before bed is enough family time and that makes a lonely wife.

Whether we play some video games together or not , still has both of us involved!

You're right, the brain doesn't completely finish developing until about 25.
    Videogames:
It's because a lot of men don't value their partners the same way you do and videogames becomes what gets blamed because that's what the men are doing while expecting to be taken care of and neglecting their responsibilities. I sat in my friends apartment 20 minutes before they had dinner plans with her parents and it was like listening to a teenager mouth off when she asked if he was going to get ready: 'yeahhh, I'll get off in a minute I'm busy"...they were late, he didn't get off until it was time to go and only because they were knocking on the door. Women want to be respected. I'm 30, most of the women my age that I know have dated at least one 'wait on me while I play video games because I don't really value you, I want a maid' in the last 10 years.

LOL Ken, "everything's STRETCHED!" Some people don't like much older people with much younger people (legal age). Some people don't like other people of different socio-economic backgrounds dating. There will always be either an excuse to hate the person who comes through the door to date a family member. If a parent always goes for someone dissimilar in age, much of that depends on how the parent feels or wants to feel. If the parent still feels like they are a 20 something, and wants to hang out with 20 somethings, that's going to be their dynamic in dating. How everyone else WANTS them to behave is irrelevant because it's about how they feel, their emotions, and many times how they feel will override any sense of decorum or logic. Even therapy may not help them. So, if one's parent is always bringing a certain age home to date, or mooning over that certain age group, that's just something one will have to deal with, until the parent has a trauma or dies.

I think Ken is on to something with the whole “kids very young with fantasies they don’t know what to do with” thing. A daughters first love is her dad, and a sons first love is his mom. Maybe not necessarily in a sexual sense, but if a young child is exposed to such perversion, they just might be drawn to that due to age. Cemented, by the time they’re adults.
