It's around the time Sakurai had to be hospitalized during development of Smash 4. Having his hands go through some pain and people talking about his devotion where some employees said that he would walk around the office with an IV drip attached to him.

He's much more than just a developer
Sakurai will always be my favorite developer with my 2nd being Robert Topalia (RobTop) the thing I appreciate in video game developers is personality and wholesomeness along with being familiar with the fanbase and how much of a hard worker they are which is why I like them so much.

@@marthekirby2596 I think that wholesomeness is genuinely connected to how enjoyable and well made his games are. He knows how to make a game appealing at a mechanical level, he just "gets it", you know what I mean? And behind the fun part, he and his team are masters of their craft.
the video game industry doesn't deserve Sakurai because he can't make smash ultimate with proper AI. You can compare smash 4 AI To ultimate and you would tell that they took it toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo far with the AI in SSBU
My favourite is when he shows his double tv setup and it's never shown again, meaning that the only reason he showed it was just to flex.

To add to it, the Japanese and European versions had a close up on all the systems he had. So yeah, he be flexing. And if your wondering, the shot was taken out of the US version because we can't stop theorizing when we see Sakurai is playing a game.

I fucking love how this mans really said "dont expect many new characters" and then unleashes goddamn Persona, The King of Fighters, Banjo-Kazooie, Dragon Quest and FUCKING MINECRAFT. What an absolute legend not evening mentioning Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Bayonetta and Sonic The Hedgehog(who was insane at the time of Brawl) from the past installments. This dude really needs a break. Or at least have him make an new original IP as Kid Icarus: Uprising was essentially a masterpiece because of the creative liberty he had for it and we already know about Kirby. Either way just let him rest somehow

Honestly I think he’s shown lately that he has an uncanny respect for the competitive scene and in fact supports it. I think he really just wants everyone to be happy but he also doesn’t want to be on bad terms with Nintendo.

He's worked for 8 years (or more) straight to give us all of these amazing characters and 3 games in that period from 3ds and Wii U to Ultimate. Yea this might be his last smash game he's producing.
For Sakurai, his vacations are doing games, like he literally loves that, and for an important game like is Smash trying to make it big and his most important one, I don't know if it will end in the FP2.
I am not assuming anything, only theorizing, but if we have a FP3, I hope that he just stops with this Fighter Pass, have 2 or 3 months of vacation and start doing again what he loves.

Honestly difficult to hate the guy, not sure why Smash Fans really beg and harass the poor guy to put their favorite characters in. He added Joker and Hero which I didn’t really care too much, but looked fun. I now enjoy their play styles and original games a lot since I never really liked RPGs that much. Now that there’s another Resource Management character being Steve releasing tomorrow I’m glad since he was revealed on my Cousin’s 15th birthday and his favorite game is Minecraft. I remember my brother popping off next to me that same day. Minecraft is a really fun game for us to waste time and see what we can get away with. In short just appreciate all the hard work and love Sakurai is putting into these Smash games and caring about the fans more than himself. He’s a hero for everyone and I’m glad he’s been there since 64 as the lead director. But damn I hate melee and glad it’s dead.
Melee would've been a better game if Sakurai had more time honestly. Melee is like what it is now because Nintendo literally forced him to make a Smash game on the Gamecube's release date..which if you were to look at when this started he..didn't really had the time...
