Oh my god PLEASE stop saying this. Kubrick WISHED he was nearly as talented as Kon…

It is so fascinating that even Kon was repulsed by the rape scene. That makes it even more metatexutal; nobody, in-universe or out of it was comfortable with it. Not Mima, not her managers, not even Kon himself. How that piles on top of the subthemes of the movie regarding sexual exploitation is amazing.

A true master of his craft! After just having watched Perfect Blue, I didn’t want to hear anyone speak about the film other than the director himself. So this video was a godsend. I figured it existed somewhere on the internet. Finding this video after a single search was very special. Thanks for uploading. 👍

Thank you so much for uploading this, it's awesome to hear a man as brilliant as Kon discuss the philosophy of how he structures and composes a scene and to hear him talk in great detail about his work!

Were the other two lectures ever subbed on an English release? I saw that there were 3 episodes of this, but it seems the English BD only has one :(

I remember vividly there's one interview where Satoshi Kon in talking about how Darren Aronofsky copied many scene from his work despite Darren never talk about copyright and such, instead when Satoshi contact him dan Darren said that it is a form of "homage."
Is this the interview i've mentioned above ?

With his slightly bitter reactions to just two scenes from Requiem For a Dream, he is probably rolling in his grave with Black Swan

I think it's a big fat criticizm of japanese otaku culture. Although I don't care about the main character at all, i really like the movie. How? It shows what kind of mess arises when people start idolizing other people, just because they are standing on a freaking stage. And regarding that, japan has a big problem.

I don't think it's a criticism of japanese otaku culture, it's criticism of celebrity culture as a whole.

i wish it was just japan, but no, this is about the whole world. You see hardcore stans of actors, youtubers, twitch streamers, instagram influencers, and kpop, jpop has a lot of non japanese, korean stans too. It's about every crazy fan around the world. But it's about more than just fans, Perfect Blue also shows how agents can use their actors like a product, how directors can manifest their rape fantasies through scenes. Esentially, the movie is about the dark side of the movie making industry, from actors, through all staff members to the fans. And then there is Millennium Actress, that shows you beautiful side of the industry.
