- This is a special feature taken from the Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray of Perfect Blue. It involves the director, Satoshi Kon, watching through some of the film's key scenes and giving comments and his own ideas to what he was trying to accomplish through the visuals of the film.
Satoshi Kon is Japan's Stanley Kubrick.
Oh my god PLEASE stop saying this. Kubrick WISHED he was nearly as talented as Kon…
It is so fascinating that even Kon was repulsed by the rape scene. That makes it even more metatexutal; nobody, in-universe or out of it was comfortable with it. Not Mima, not her managers, not even Kon himself. How that piles on top of the subthemes of the movie regarding sexual exploitation is amazing.
But listen what he said at the time stamp of 15:36
@@pratikshatiwari7011I hope he’s joking 😂😂😂
i miss him bros
Thanks for this! I was looking everywhere to find them!
No problem 👍😁
Thanks alot....this was really exceptional of you to put this on UA-cam... I loved all the kon work and really wanted to know more about how he thinks etc. Thanks for this...this was really helpful and I am glad you put it up.
It's no problem! Glad you enjoyed it 👍.
A true master of his craft! After just having watched Perfect Blue, I didn’t want to hear anyone speak about the film other than the director himself. So this video was a godsend. I figured it existed somewhere on the internet. Finding this video after a single search was very special. Thanks for uploading. 👍
TYSM for this! I needed to cite it for an essay, huge help
How did the essay go? :D
Thank you so much for uploading this, it's awesome to hear a man as brilliant as Kon discuss the philosophy of how he structures and composes a scene and to hear him talk in great detail about his work!
Everything is explained so clear! Thank you.
this video is perfect in all senses
Thanks a lot!
Thank you!!!!
I could listen to him explain every shot
Were the other two lectures ever subbed on an English release? I saw that there were 3 episodes of this, but it seems the English BD only has one :(
this is actually the 2nd part
I remember vividly there's one interview where Satoshi Kon in talking about how Darren Aronofsky copied many scene from his work despite Darren never talk about copyright and such, instead when Satoshi contact him dan Darren said that it is a form of "homage."
Is this the interview i've mentioned above ?
yes
she's in love with Kon. In Love with Kon
I guess all of Black swan was a “homage” cause that movie is an inferior repackaged Perfect Blue
well at least Darren didn’t have fun while making a rape scene 😊
Gone too soon.....
With his slightly bitter reactions to just two scenes from Requiem For a Dream, he is probably rolling in his grave with Black Swan
glad Kon says american movies are shit! true!
Time stamp pls!
一回じゃ短い🤣今さんは違うよね?😏ちなみに反復運動を正しく言うとチュウソウになります
I think it's a big fat criticizm of japanese otaku culture. Although I don't care about the main character at all, i really like the movie. How? It shows what kind of mess arises when people start idolizing other people, just because they are standing on a freaking stage. And regarding that, japan has a big problem.
I don't think it's a criticism of japanese otaku culture, it's criticism of celebrity culture as a whole.
i wish it was just japan, but no, this is about the whole world. You see hardcore stans of actors, youtubers, twitch streamers, instagram influencers, and kpop, jpop has a lot of non japanese, korean stans too. It's about every crazy fan around the world. But it's about more than just fans, Perfect Blue also shows how agents can use their actors like a product, how directors can manifest their rape fantasies through scenes. Esentially, the movie is about the dark side of the movie making industry, from actors, through all staff members to the fans. And then there is Millennium Actress, that shows you beautiful side of the industry.
