I bought my Zuma 50 in 2012 and she's still running strong with 20k miles. Costs me $4/wk in gas as i only have to fill up once a week and that gets me to and from work. Also no insurance is required for 50cc scooters in Florida! So for less than $20 a month i have my own transportation around town! Can't beat it.
@@tommythunder9491 I rock Yamaha, mostly because I've had my scooter since 2012 and haven't had to use any other scooter. 28k miles and no issues. Besides basic maintenance (oil change, brakes, tires, air filter, belt)

Really chill commentary talking about a lot of otherwise mundane topics that you wouldn't find on reviews or other scooter videos, but super helpful for someone considering getting one. The 18 mins flew right by!
Don't be fooled by the speed. I crashed my zuma 2 years ago by going over a wet manhole and sliding. Ended up with 3 broken bones. Scooters are great but they are still to be handled with respect
Loved the video. Thank you for sharing it with us. I bought me a Chinese TaoTao Quantum 150cc back in March 2021 I love it. I liked how you mentioned the gear while riding a scooter. I wear gloves a nice flannel shirt and I even have a very nice Jacket and a helmet when I ride. This morning I had to got out on mine to get a haircut .. the speed limits on my back roads are 30-35 mph .. there where cars behind me and they all wanted to go faster than 35 .. I felt like they were trying to push me faster.. so at times I had to do 45mph and I even hit 50mph. I feel I'm a very safe rider on my scooter.. and always watching the traffic to see what they are going to do. Love all the things you pointed out... I feel the same way.
You gotta love Illinois roads I’ve got a kymco 50 so watch the pot holes and be careful, the Zuma is a fine scooter like the Honda ruckus and the metropolitan I’ve got the kymco a-town 50 it’s saved me a boat load of money on gas all summer and I drive mine 6 miles to work 5 days a week and it’s costs 4 dollars a week for fuel and my car costs 50 a week just the gas savings alone pays for the scooter and insurance every month have a great day
Hey just be careful out there on a 50cc scooter. I got one 4 days ago and yesterday a Harley hit me head on and destroyed my whole moped. I’m just glad I’m okay
5:15 Its normal on bikes and scooters for the speedometer to be off by a few mph. I normally use a GPS speed app on my phone to see how off it is and keep that in mind. 3mph sounds about normal for something like this
Great video. I have a 2016 exact same bike. It's sad they discontinued that bike in North America. I ended up picking up a genuine roughhouse for a second bike.
@@CoreyOlsonLevi Yamaha still makes scooters but they are 125cc or more. From a legal perspective in many states getting a small scooter requires the same hoops as getting a large one so most people go for a larger one if they want one at all. Glad I'm not the only married guy in a one car + scooter type of relationship. I've got a Wolf Rugby and my wife has a Wolf Islander. Can't wait for the time we can get a babysitter and go out together on the scoots.
Nice video and thanks for the commentary and insight on the Zuma. Plus, enjoyed the ride as well! Although, I was getting a little nervous on that unpaved part but we made it through okay! :)
the process of buying this bike is a hassle so be prepared to wait a lot. I'm still waiting on mine and it's been a month, and they say it only takes 5 to 6 weeks.
not that it matters much since it gets like 100+ mpg. But that scooter is more sophisticated than a normal old school one and it should be fine on the lower octane stuff because its fuel injected and water cooled. It use to be on small carbonated scooters that if you did not use them for a while they would gum up easily and they where air cooled which had its own host of problems.
Good to hear you have a helmet that can accommodate your glasses. That's never easy. Glad to hear you've got a jacket too. Lights or ground sensor grids never detect scooters, and probably a lot of MCs too. Grooved pavement is the worst, especially if it's wet or in the rain. Avoid if possible, or keep loose when riding and go light on the brakes. My wife and I only have one car and our scooter as well. We save a lot, especially on gas as I use my bike to commute, or I'll take a train in bad weather. You're really right, MC insurance is vital, especially since the chances of a rider being a victim are so much higher than those of a car/driver.
Yeah I think we could have done the one car, one bike thing longer. It's nice, or sort of quaint / cute to share a car. My parents ended up with an extra car, so I was able to avoid riding the bike in the winter. Although in hind-sight, I wish I tried riding a bit more in the winter (put the bike away around November.)
@@CoreyOlsonLevi My wife and I live in New Jersey where auto insurance is pretty much criminal. Having one car works for us (no kids), where I can get around most of the year on my bike or if the weather is bad I can take a train to work or drive if my wife doesn't need the car.
The chances of being a victim when in an accident with a car is higher, however your chances of injury or death on a scooter are much lower than driving a car.
I will likely do a video showing my helmet setup. GoPro Hero 8 Black mounted on the front (chin) of helmet. If you get the media mod, this provides an aux in for a lavaliere microphone. I mounted a battery to my helmet as well to get 5+ hours of recording time on 4K. Unfortunately I recorded 1080p because there was a bit of a glitch, but I found a way around all that. I think I will make a video to explain it a bit better. Stay tuned.
If you don't mind me asking, how much do you weigh? I'm thinking of trading in a 2016 Honda PCX 150 for something smaller. I'm 180 and my scoot tops out at 63mph.

Always use premium. It helps reduce backflow and knocking since the engine is constantly heating up to hi heat and over 5k rpm.

Where did you buy yours? I'm looking online at a bunch of different retailers and most have terrible trustpilot reviews.
Ya but modification comes at a cost and the cost is less fuel efficient/fuel economy won't be as good as 95-115 miles per gallon.

I don’t think you can put premium inside a scooter because its Carbureted premium has ethanol in it and that can destroy your carb
