I did 8 patrols out of the Loch back in the early 70's. I used to spend a lot of time in upper level missile compartment before it became a limited area trying to figure out just how in the blazes a kid from southwest Alabama wound up on one of mankind's most awesome weapons platforms ever made. That was 50 years ago. I am positive that if I could go back on board Jolly Dolly it would be as if I had never left her.

Very funny Pete. 9 patrols out of the Loch in the 80's and from South East Alabama.

I served on a boomer out of Rota 1974-76. Home port was Charleston. Made good friends and I am proud to have served.

I remember my brother in law doing these rotations. He was a Sonar Tech on Boomers his whole career. My brother was on fast attacks and he hated the time being gone and got out after he made Chief.
I stayed with the P-3s and never went on a ship. After I got out I worked at EB until I could start college.

Short timer, USNR, was absorbed from SS478 pigboat to SSBN602, Holy Loch. 70-71, two patrols. Served under CO John D Leonard aka "Fat Jack"
Always displayed his missile key around his neck. Saved my money and took NATO leave while rest of the crew went home to families. Best memories of Prestwick Airport and NAS Quonset Point.
Eight hours on, sixteen off when at sea. Slept when not working on qualifications. Most excitement was starboard lookout when transiting to North Sea, then the order to DIVE .... 15 seconds to get below and shed the foul weather gear, with the officer of the bridge being last man down. Family grams and movies in crew's mess were a big deal. Took the early out honorable discharge.
Saw the SSBN602, mothballed, Bremerton, 1992, on a business trip to Seattle. Looked very peaceful, tied up at the ferry terminal.
Anyone still alive, from the crew .... I welcome your comments!

I was 10 years old at this time. I lived through the 80’s understanding the awesome and terrifying power of these leviathans in merry old England and Scotland etc. and here we are once again with the tip of the spear almost reaching out and touching the face of the enemy 😳

You wouldn't want to let a water spray on your body in a real situation. At depth the water jet cuts like an aqua torch, slices through flesh and bone in one try.
