It has been a year since this video was made Raph. It is still beautiful to go back to when one wishes to replace their shelf full of worldly possessions, with Eternal words of gold. There have been many books I can thank you for inspiring me to acquire…none shall go to waste..because if I no longer use it..it becomes a gift for another pilgrim.
I absolutely LOVE HTM. I'm not sure if they're still technically schismatic, but when I visited them about 5 years ago, they were (I was a newly baptized/chrismated Orthodox who didn't know about any of that). I wanted a few icons and a few books, but when I asked about their price, it was more than I could afford. But when I went to put some back, they stopped me and just discounted each a bit so that I could afford them. I was SO grateful and have never forgotten their generosity. I also love their translations, they read so nicely. Also, I read the pdf of the changes. The old Horologion was 50 pound paper, the new Horologion is 60 pound paper. THAT'S 60 POUNDS OF AWESOME!
Which do you recommend more for your praying of the hours: this, the Publican’s prayer book, Monastic Diurnal (WR), or Anthologion. I was considering Anthologion for ER and Monastic diurnal for WR
I mentioned this in a Facebook comment, but you must not have seen it. It isn’t true that the index of saints contains “every canonical saint through the year 2020” - and its actually really interesting who is left out and who is included. St Joseph is included, as you mentioned, but both Sts Paisios and Porphyrios are notably absent. Also, they opted to include several Old Calendarist saints (eg Chrysostom of Florina), so a canonical Orthodox Christian should exercise some caution when using the services from this book. An interesting conversation followed in the thread my comment started on fb on some odd translation choices that HTM has made in this edition that may reflect the name worshipping heresy - any canonical Orthodox Christian should also be made aware of those if they decide to use this volume as their primary method of prayer
@Jonathan York thanks, I was very close to clicking the buy button. leaving out St Paisios and adding schismatics is a deal breaker. Do you know if there is an alternative to the second volume by another company?
@@OrthodoxReview , interesting. I asked someone else who also has the new Horologion and they said that Sts. Paisios the Athonite and Porphyrios of Kafsokalivia and other recently glorified saints of the canonical Church were not included, with St. Joseph the Hesychast being the exception.
Could you check to see if the kontakion after ode 6 in the communion preparation canon is the same one that’s in the prayer book? If it is different, could you please type it out here?
Orthodox Review thanks for checking, I was hoping they updated it since it doesn’t fit the Prosomion that it’s supposed to, like some of the other hymns in the prayer book that they updated for their Prosomia CD. Oh well. Keep up the good work.
I was going to get the anthologion since it's much more convenient and economical but the reviews about the translation make me want to bite the bullet and get this instead.

This is the best review you've ever done, Raph! Also, I love the camera setup!
Thanks!!!

Anthologion
Thanks for this video. I didn't even know the new two volume edition had been published. This set will be my next purchase.

I pay very little attention to Facebook
@@OrthodoxReview lol that’s why I rewrote everything here

When I visited HTM last winter, I almost bought the massive 1 volume edition. I still kinda wish I had but this 2 volume seems awesome.
In Vol 2, do they have Sts. Paisios and Porphyrios?
Yes!

Are you sure they added “World Orthodox” saints? I’ve heard that they didn’t. Don’t forget they regard St. Joseph as their own.
@@basilp5179 i was mistaken, you are correct.
The calendar of saints (this goes for the Menaion as well) in it assumes you are using the new calendar as I found my confusion and great laughter.
How did you get them free?
I asked.
Would this be a good book for an aspiring Christian trying to deepen his faith?
If you're looking to dive head-first into the complete range of services, sure. There is much to be learned from the theology of our worship.

Don't fall for it.
