    There is nothing in pop culture as deep as the love of the Target generation who grew up reading the novelisations in the 1970s and 1980s.

      I'd be very tempted to agree with you. They are almost mythic amongst collectors of a certain age.🙂

    Great video as always Jules. The only observation I would make regarding this magazine is that when you buy a copy you don't know which CD you're going to get
    until you open it and therefore are running the risk of getting a CD which you already own, fortunately when I bought my copy it came with a CD which I didn't already
    have in my collection of Doctor Who CD's (Patrick Troughton's The Enemy Of The World) otherwise another fantastic video looking at a great magazine, looking
    forward to your future videos.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. You're absolutely right, there's no way to determine what CD you're going to get and I suspect a deal was done to clear surplus old stock. I personally would have definitely preferred a classic era story rather than the one I got but I guess it's a roll of the dice.

      I completely agree Jules, it probably was a deal to clear out some surplus stock. I remember that Doctor Who Magazine gave away a free target book with issue 397 (I got one which I already owned) which I'm guessing was another occasion when they were getting rid of surplus stock. I wonder what surplus stock they'll want to get rid of next?@@JulesBurt

      @@diana1938 Who knows? There is certainly a demand for and real love for Doctor Who books but the long time fan has probably seen most of this before tbh.

    Fabulous news that you'll be examining the Who's in depth. There is so much lore, so many interesting variations, puzzling decisions by the publishers....it's a whole world unto itself. Can't wait 🙂

    The only Doctor Who book I remember buying was the one with the Loch Ness monster and I really enjoyed it so I was surprised you were slightly sniffy about it. I bought it through a catalogue that my primary school gave us every so often. You filled in the form with your choices and gave the money to the teacher and then the book arrived after a couple of weeks or so. I remember my mum always sighed when she saw my choices because she thought I wasn't stretching myself enough.

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  17 днів тому

      It's called The Loch Ness Monster and I never really rated that original story of indeed the book. It's a great period of Doctor Who, but that one, for me is a bit of a turkey. My school had a book shop of sorts, had a few DW....

    My 1st book i bought was dr who and the cave monsters. It was very difficult to get the hardbacks back then and they were more expensive. The five doctors paperback came out before the tv story was transmitted and the two doctors 2nd edition came out before the 1st edition or maybe they found some 1st editions in a warehouse and sent them out later. Also the curse of peladon hardback cover has the incorrect cover on the front.

    I'm not a fan of the new stuff, and by that I mean anything since Eccleston played the doctor in the reboot, however I love the look of this target guide. I wish it was available to purchase alone because I would never ever listen to that cd set.
    Loved this calming video Jules. Thank you for showing that badge. I have searched online for it for years and never seen one. Is that the actual badge you could send for by filling out the coupon in the back of the target books?
    I look forward to your Target videos

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  17 днів тому +1

      Thanks my friend. It is a bit of a shame that you can't just buy the magazine on it's own. Since I got a CD, it would have been good to have received a classic story rather than a new series one. That Target badge is indeed the original one that was available via the coupon. Mine came from legendary Dr Who dealer of the 80's, John Fitton. It was his personal one. It's very scarce and not marked or branded, so tough to find. I'm looking forward to filming the books again myself too.

      @@JulesBurt those badges never appear on eBay. I can't even find any photo references on the internet!!! I thought I was imagining it! @@TimelordUK I know what you mean, unless you got one at the time they do seem impossible to find these days. It took me two years to get one. A repro should be very easy though as it has no markings of any sort on it.
