Love that dress, and this may be my favorite pattern so far. Part of the vicarious pleasure of watching your videos is that I often wish I had the ambition to do a particular project again with a change to make it better, but I don't usually get round to it. But you actually follow through, and you are showing how that attention to detail can make a huge difference, and it sets the goalposts a little bit further and reminds me of why I took up sewing in the first place.
Love this dress, and the colour really suits you. I like little buttons and they would look good all down the front on your next try out. Reminds me of a dress I had when I was a teenager, it was grey with orange flowers on and tiny covered buttons down the front, puff sleeves and a low neck line. Ah happy days! 🤗
I love this dress, love the bodice especially, BUT, I think with a full button placket front, it will be the best! I appreciate your experimentation and expertise.
I do like both dresses but I share your befuddlement about skirts with extra fullness gathered in the front - last place I want that fullness unless it is evenly full all around. And the piping really helps show off the style lines of the bodice and it's a bit of a shame if they get lost. I always enjoy when you keep poking at a pattern until you get it just as you want it. I never would have dared to do that a few years ago, before I saw how you went about it. It has made my own sewing much more satisfying!❤
I love both versions! 😍 And yes, I too mash up bodices, skirts and sleeves from different patterns to make my Frankenstein dresses of dreams 😁 Isn't that part of the fun of making your own clothes? Looking forward to the sew along 🙏
Hi Sian, in addition to pre-washing my dressmaking fabrics I have also pre-washed my string! I put it into a bowl of water for a while then squeezed it out as much as possible and looped it over and around a clothes airer standing over the bath. So far there has been no shrinkage on those (rare) occasions when a garment has been washed. Hope this helps. Happy stitching 😉 Caroline R-G
The dress is beautiful. Might I suggest a belt made of the same fabric as the dress. The black belt competes with the piping you so painstakingly attached. I love it without a belt but knowing your style you want a belt...lol
Love the piping on this dress and the teal colour snakes and flowers. Really fetches out the design of the dress. Right up my alley, think the buttons all the way down the front would be better. Be easier to get on as well, for the less mobile like myself. But still want to look good and dress accordingly to personal asthectic. Thanks again take care xx Looking forward to the sew along,
The piping is perfect on this very pretty dress. I have thought of doing that or colour blocking to define the style lines. Have you considered making the bodice as a top? xxxx
This version is my favorite for now, and I think buttons all the way down will surpass it! 🤩 The piping pops the details of the bodice so beautifully, too. Can’t wait to see the next variation. 🤩
I prefer the original skirt, it looks fuller and more balanced to me :) I really like your idea to make this into a shirt dress, I think, this would look awesome! The piping details are really pretty, I like them especially in the back of the dress, that looks very elegant . I am looking forward to your next iteration of this dress :D
… I like the pipping detail, like the fuller skirt around the back … like the wider cuffs … and I like your idea of putting buttons along the entire front … I think I just like it lol… hugs darling xo
If Sean what beats a machine washing for a garment that you may want to be delicate with is a handwashing and you may find that renting out the dress in the sink may outweigh the challenges to the garment that machine watching me create just saying happy selling
I think they both look fab, but if you are not totally happy with them you have to keep going and I would say if you button all the way down plus you have the granddad style style collar it will be shirt dress xx 🤗🧵✂️ xx
Perhaps if you add a five panel full circle skirt to it? Or do you have a skirt you really love? Put it on. By the way I loooove the teal fabric, not so sure if I love the piping but you look gorgeous in both of the dresses
Nice experiment. Nice dress resulting. Get that it seems odd to have a gathered skirt in front and smooth skirt in back. Seeing the two next to each other, I now see that original skirt does work really well. It somehow balances out the dress more. Just personal preference. After seeing the comparison. Thank you for sharing these trails. 😽💕
This dress is so pretty and so is the first one of this pattern that you made. I did make this pattern from some inexpensive cotton for a local department store(pretty much my wearable muslin). While I love it, I wish I had added the piping and will definitely make this pattern again but this time will add the piping. Yours just looks so perfect!
I like the Cobra Corsage dress better only because I like the Cobra corsage better than the burgundy ditsy print. I like the burgundy colour, but not the ditsy print. I usually do not like ditsy prints. The ditsy print works well when you wear it with the burgundy Cobra Corsage skirt over it, as it gives it a cute country look. The rare occasion I liked a ditsy print was the SOI Eve dress in the Mopsey print, but I would have the Mopsey print in the True Bias Shelby Romper. These are my personal preferences, but I am not the person wearing the finished dresses - you are.
looks beautiful! love the fabric and piping detail. Would loooove to see a full sew along as I'm a beginner and am wanting to try this pattern :)
Minerva has a beginner sew along version step by step.

OMG the dress with the black piping just beautiful you are so talented I love it. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Love it, the shoes go great with it and a narrower belt would be lovely. Perfection!
I've seen somewhere that you can use yarn in piping to make a softer version for clothing. Dress is lovely 💝 xxx

Love the dress, the piping looks amazing. Reaalymsuits you

This version is gorgeous! I love the black piping. Now I also want a green dress :D

The ditsy print in this dress is growing on me.

Love both dresses, I don’t have the confidence to play with a pattern to the extent you do. 💙🌈🍓🧶
