You are FAR more optimistic than I am.
Google is notorious to jump starting the bailing on projects. Do we think this will be exclusive to Stadia?
Samsung is the champion of HDR10+ a similar project on the visual side that has NOT been widely adopted, and according to your video new hardware with hdmi 2.2 may (will) be required to receive full benefit. Enthusiasts are not running to UA-cam compression to show off their systems. I see thus a vaborware.
AWESOME, so, my brand new Dolby Atmos system will soon be outdated just so studios and streaming platforms can save a buck while increasing my subscription costs. Beautiful
Dolby Atmos isn't going anywhere. This just gives studios and streaming services another option for delivering immersive multi-channel audio. It will only become relevant when there is content available in the format.
As much as I am hoping for a much better immersive audio format than the Ho-Hum Dolby Atmos and just barely better DTS-X deliveries; I'm NOT going to hold my breath while awaiting something great from Eclipsa either. Due to the sorely lacking audio delivery from the studios and the mixing engineers on most movies I doubt those folks are going to put any more effort into future projects. I have to ask WTH is it going to take to everyone on board with producing quality mixes for those of us that care? Hell! I'm not sure even the manufacturers of AVRs and receivers are giving us the products we've paid for. Well, that is all of us that paid for our gear and not the beholden reviewers of said gear. I am pretty sure that nobody knows if us as so-called Home Theater owners, especially us "budget" DIY owners, are getting close to what can be had if done correctly by everyone involved. I'd really like to experience an Anthony Grimani installed and tuned room with both top tier and average grade gear. Is all that high priced millionaire gear really doing that much of a better performance than gear in most folks affordability?
I think you're right. It's a lot to ask for, especially when there isn't a strong incentive for everyone involved to create a truly immersive and high-quality experience. Creating a license-free immersive audio format is one thing, but the biggest issue is post production studios not given enough time or money to make EVERY mix truly immersive.
@@ecoustics I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that the download files from Kaleidescape has the best A/V data for home use because has been "remixed" or something be the Kaleidescape staff. I sure would like to be a part of a side-by-side testing panel of streaming, 4k BD and Kaleidescape playbacks. Getting numbers on those data streams to the AVR/processor would be eye opening. Too few of us can afford a Kaleidescape system, but I would be willing to pay more for 4k discs with complete immersive audio mixes that is properly tied to the action on and off screen. Also, I'd really like to have a "pre-play" audio/visual sample that can be played to test and adjust the owners A/V system on each disc. Would that be nice.
However, the reality is few, darn few people give rats rearend about even mid-fi A/V. "Oh my sound bar is great!" Yes sir...I'm sure it is.......
Hello, I'm from Brazil. Do you think Eclipsa Audio will create a kind of 'Atmos' for my native language? Unfortunately, Portuguese has very little Dolby Atmos content.
Hmmm...I would assume most foreign language tracks would be limited to 5.1 or 7.1, at least if it's content that was originally made in the U.S. But who knows? Maybe Eclipsa Audio will catch on quickly and be used to swiftly dub immersive soundtracks in other languages. We sure hope that's the case! 🎉
I’m really impressed with my 5.1… watching movies, shows and listening to music. I can live without atmos 😊
No shame in that! 😀🎉
So we ll get the 3D sound with the lossless format or lossy!? As mostly the streaming platforms audios are soo lossy
Great question! Not sure, though. Hopefully it’s first attempt at lossless over streaming, since it’s over a PCM signal. 🤷♂️🤞
OK, so the official word from our Google contact is that Eclipsa can support lossless audio as it supports FLAC. We suspect that this won't be the norm though, as it would require more bandwidth than most streaming services are willing to dedicate to the audio portion of the stream. Even the newest version of DTS:X (DTS:X Profile 2) does NOT support a lossless option as it was developed specifically for streaming.
But the lossless option is there in Eclipsa if content creators should choose to use it.
Oh thats great!! If there s a possibility of choosing most HT enthusiasts will prefer tat
@ - the underlying audio format used within the Eclipsa container is going to be defined by the actual studios or streaming services. If Eclipsa content makes it onto physical media or onto a download service like Kaleidescape then it will likely be lossless, but on UA-cam and other streaming services, I'm guessing it will normally be lossy in order to save bandwidth.
I've got a 9.2.4 system. Totally disappointing. A scam to sell more speakers. The excuse I keep hearing is that it depends on the sound engineer. I guess the sound engineer that can make this work, hasn't been born yet as I still haven't heard one movie that justifies the hype over normal surround sound.
I don't think you're doing it right with the right equipment...I have a 5.2.4 system and am amazed at how immersed I am within it...true...some movies sound way better than others...not every boom is supposed to shake your seat...every bullet/jet/spaceship fly by your head...but most are...The Expanse on Prime has me rewinding...Extraction 2 is orgasmic...so work on dialing your system in...or upgrading.
@ I have a flagship Denon AVR and $60,000 stereo set up. I've been into audio, including recording, for years. I do know how to set up a system. Atmos return on the dollar is not worth it.
We have several movies and TV series we use to test and demo Dolby Atmos. I like the intro to "Andor" episode 1 as the rain falling from above as Andor heads into town then the dialog and music in the nightclub scene can sound awesome over the right system with a cohesive dome of sound. The intro to "Gravity" in Atmos on Blu-ray Disc is also a great Dolby Atmos demo, with the voices of the astronauts and mission control tracking the on-screen motion of the shuttle with pinpoint accuracy and the ability to make out individual voices much more easily than in the 5.1 version. The first "Dune" movie also excels in Dolby Atmos, particularly in the scene where the worm is advancing to attack the spice harvester. The cacophony of swirling sand, Bene Gesserit voices, soundtrack and effects envelops the user in Atmos while a 5.1 reproduction of the same scene is much flatter and less articulate.
But maybe more impressive than movies, I use several music tracks encoded in Dolby Atmos to evaluate receivers, soundbars and speakers systems. You can get Dolby Atmos music in Tidal, Apple Music and Amazon Music. Some of my favorite tracks include "Alive" by KX5/Deadmau5, "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "Riders On The Storm" - The Doors. There are hundreds more. When engineers and artists go back to the original master tapes and remix from scratch (or create a new release in Atmos from scratch) you can get an amazingly immersive music mix that really draws you into the music.
Set-up is key though as negative phase interactions, bass nodes and room modes can destroy the audio performance. And the more speakers you have, the worse these interactions can be. This is why something like Dirac Live, which adjusts speakers in both the time (phase) and level (amplitude) domains is so helpful in getting great sound out of a multi-channel system. Audyssey MultXT 32 is good, but I've found you can do more with DIRAC. Room treatments are also helpful in reducing unwanted reflections.
Anyway, there is some good stuff out there for sure and I find a good Dolby Atmos system - with good content - blows away standard surround sound.
Can we get dirac live in old RZ 50!? With any update?!
@ if you're talking about the Onkyo TX-RZ50, that comes with Dirac Live installed. If yours doesn't have it, check for updates. You can also add Dirac Live Bass Control, but that will cost an additional $299 (currently).
This is Nintendo vs Turbo Graph...with Dolby being the former.....
This is just to save royalties
But atmos does height channels so what different?
its hard to say unless you listen to it i guess.
its free
No licensing fees is a lot more enticing for streaming platforms, manufacturers and developers alike to adopt it. That way they can provide an immersive audio experience akin to Atmos or DTS:X or Auro 3D, but not have to pay for the licensing fee. 👍
@@KASmonkeys its free?
Hey Ealan, what the heck are you doing here? Not that I’m not happy to see you-just surprised is all. Hope you haven’t abandoned your own channel? (EDIT: Just saw the latest from your channel pop up in my feed. So I guess this ecoustics thing is a side gig?)
Yep! Side giggin’ in 2025, baby! 🎉 The fellas at eCoustics are legit, and it’s where I stay up to date with my home audio news, so I thought I’d post some stuff on their behalf from time to time. 😊
@ Good for you! Got a double dose of EO today. What a treat!
Do we know if it has object based?
To be determined!
Atmos is a scam. A 9.2 with height channels or a 7.1 is plenty and can be amazing with the right equipment and speaker choice. I preferred the old school 6.1 system. Seemed to have gotten lost in all of this marketing BS. Most engineers are not utilizing the extra Atmos channels. It's a waste of money and space. I was listening to The Hunt For Red October, which has an exceptional soundtrack, through my 7.1 THX Onkyo processor via my full Dayton Audio Classic line and my 12 inch Dayton Audio subwoofer....... Brilliant. You don't need extra speakers or expensive equipment to enjoy a nice evening in your home theater..... honestly, been there done that. In my older, wiser age, I've spent less money and have chosen to keep it as simple as possible.
Are the movie studios supporting this?
Hopefully! 🤞
