Love listening to you politely crap all over poorly designed trail shoes! Thanks as always for your honesty. Most of us don't have the luxury of buying and trying lots of different shoes, so it is great to know which ones to avoid, especially when they look cool and have advertising that promises exactly what we want.
Always honest Kent and very frustrated with Nike Trail! I personally think it's just not good enough and they need to start putting more effort into their trail shoe testing and development 👍 Hope you're fit and well and thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
I bought some Kiger 7's last year and I love them. Comfortable! I am getting older and can't run much up hills anymore, but I usually run down the trails. I have hiked a lot of mountains in them and have zero problems. Great hiking shoes. I love the traction and have only fallen twice...once i tripped and another i slipped on the ice, haha. I bought a second pair this month just to have another color, and they were on sale for $65. Can't beat that for shoes that I love to hike in.
Hi Casey I actually reviewed the Wildhorse 6 on the channel and had a lot of similar issues that I had in the Terra Kiger 7. I found the shoe to feel quite unstable underfoot and grip was terrible in the wet on the trails I run! I did look at the Wildhorse 7 but it's pretty much the same as the 6 so I didn't bother 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure The WH6 for me is borderline dangerous on technical trails, due to a wildly unstable rear half of the shoe, and all the reasons you list for the K7. The WH4 is still the pinnacle of the Nike trailshoe line (as much as it was yawned at at the time by reviewers as I recall): The asymmetric lacing & midfoot wrap gave amazing midfoot hold, and the stability and heel zoomair to soften heel strikes were highlights. I'm open to React as it does give a softer touch in the forefoot (the one drawback of the WH4 on longer runs), though there are other ways to accomplish that. But Nike IMHO needs a major shakeup in the trailshoe design team for the next iterations: They've lost their way.
@@rmsrmsrmsrms I couldn't agree more Roger! The Wildhorse 6 was very unstable in the heel and the grip was terrible in the wet 😲 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure BTW I'm talking hardpack Western US trails; I don't think either the WH or Kiger line was ever intended for UK mud, only the WH6 had lugs deeper than a few mm.
Interesting review! I’ve just bought these, ironically to run same area as you do in Cornwall! I agree with the traction issues, it’s not the grippiest at all but a definite step up from last year. I also own the perigrine 10 and much prefer the Nike, more stable and comfier. What I love with these channels is how everyone looks for and appreciates different things in a shoe. My biomechanics are no doubt very different to yours and I’m not babying an ankle with rehab- I’m also a lot shorter. I found these trainers to be great on tight rocky paths and love the stability of a wide platform ( no inov8 narrow last here) and really enjoy the added pop of the air unit. These are great “trail shoes” but poor in the mud (as are most shoes) but the next level for Nike is a tie in with vibram. This needs to happen!
Glad you found the review interesting and that's running in general, it's so personal 👍 The only thing is if a trail shoe has poor traction that you can't trust then how can it be a great trail running shoe? Surely if you run on similar trails to me, Zennor, Lamorna, Bassett, Lands End etc then you want your trail shoes to have good grip? 🤔 I can also assure you it was the shoe that felt unstable to me and not me "babying my ankle" 😊 Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see Nike using Vibram Megagrip on there trail shoes because it would basically be Nike admitting that their rubber compound isn't good enough. I not sure a company as powerful as Nike are willing to admit yet 🤔 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure I run other way, lands end sennon and bosigran. It’s all a toss up of priorities, I’d love to rock the G270s but zero drop shoes ruin my calf’s! Maybe inov8 will give this years version a 4mm drop but I’m guessing that’s as unlikely as Nike teaming up with vibram. Love the channel mate, look forward to the next one
Have the TK 6, they lockdown well and feel nice and comfortable, just have no confidence when I hit any wet or muddy patches in them. But in summer months enjoy packed trails and canal runs in them. Like others have said each to their own, wish they had the grip / traction in the wet and muddy months here in the UK. Maybe next time.
The 6 sounds very similar to the Terra Kiger 7 then Paul. On flat, dry, compact stuff the shoes feel very comfortable and the upper is nice and plush. But when you hit the uneven stuff or heaven forbid some mud.... god help you 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review as always. I hit a few of Lloyds haunts a few weeks ago when in St Ives ( coastal path to Zennor and back, and Lelant and back) and based on my experience both of those trails, and my current Nike trail shoes I too would not hit the trails round there in a pair of Nike's. I always regard them as others do, and from this review I think Lloyd, as good in the summer months on well trodden trails with limited technical sections that you can plod in for a few hours racking up done good KM. Nikes certainly are not something I feel comfortable using on a wet November day when it's very muddy, scrambling over wet rocks etc.
That's awesome Shaun 👍 Hope you had a great time on the trails of Cornwall! The St Ives to Zennor section is pretty interesting isn't it. You can imagine what that's like in the depths of winter 😲 You can see why grip and stability is so important for me in my trail running shoes. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
This shoe works well in dry climates, I run up the Hollywood hills trails works well. I also take them up to a few canyons in CA but I wouldn't recommend them in extremely jagged areas didnt support my ankle as much .
Totally agree 👍 It runs ok on flat dry trail or tarmac but it really can't handle the more technical stuff and if it's wet..... Hang on for dear life! 😲 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Hopefully Nike will get it right one day! Think about hoka with the original speed goat an absolute wobble board on uneven terrain but then the next version on they listened to the feedback made the midsole more bucket shaped added the overlays that wrap from the outsole up and round the sides and solved all those problems giving us the fantastic shoe we have today! Nike execs take note hahah keep the good reviews coming Lloyd
You are so right Simon, the original Speedgoat was a very interesting shoe that's for sure! It was an ankle sprain waiting to happen 😊 It was a massive improvement when they moved to the Speedgoat 2 and even better when the 3's came a long 😊 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Good grips on the soles are important on the trails . Sound like back to the drawing board for Nike . Great review . I hope all is well with your ankle . Thanks for all your reviews . I really enjoy watching them. You have a great voice and you don’t ramble on. . I don’t do a lot of trail running but I run on them to change it up especially when I am stressed or just need to connect with nature instead of road running . I just rambled on . Haha take care Loyd
Thanks for the kind words Stacy they are really appreciated 😊 The ankle is definitely improving every day and I'm getting some consistent miles in now. Hope you are fit and well, thanks for all the support you give the channel 🙏
Solid review! Thank you! I really REALLY wish Nike would come out with a trail running shoe with better features. I want to buy a Nike trail running shoe (though I'm not sure why) but have never found a Nike trail shoe with the features I want! I prefer zero drop, but would go for minimal drop if everything else was on point. Come on Nike!
Yeap I totally agree, Nike have to up there game when it comes to their trail shoe development. It's such a shame when you think what they've produced for the road environment! Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review there Loyd. Would agree with every word you mentioned about Nike in general when it comes to trails. You've probably been asked more times than you care to remember but are you planning on doing a follow up on the Inov8 terraultra 270? Would love to hear your thoughts?
Thanks Phil, that's appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍 I will be doing a follow up on the Terraultra G270's at some point. Obviously coming back from an ankle sprain has meant we're playing catch up at the moment but I will get to it 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏
amazing review, as always :) I was thinking about getting Nike trail running shoe before I got my Asics...glad I didnt, wouldve been disappointed, as I run on pretty technical and muddy trails fairly often
Great reviews Loyd I always enjoy your content. My Kiger 7 arrive Tuesday “what have I done?” The thinking was a comfortable shoe for running to the trails, which are mainly dry and flat this time of year but come winter I love to run in the rain and now I’m worried. As I Nike member I can return in 60 days, should I try maybe the Peregrine 10 or 11 or maybe the Torrent 2 or any other recommendations would be ace. Btw in the UK.
You never know they might work for you Micheal? At least we are moving into summer and the trails are pretty dry. Come winter you want a different shoe on your feet though! The Peregrine 10 and 11's are definitely worth looking at and the Torrent 2 is a very consistent shoe 👍 Hope this helps and let me know what you think about the Terra Kiger 7, thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks Loyd. K7 turned up today and been returned. Already ordered the Peregrine 10 just coz I love the “Mutant” red colour way. Need a shoe that works in the rain and mud.
Great review! Can't believe Nike still can't get the outsole right for trails, really keen to try them out for comfort but everyone I know complains about the grip on the technical or wet stuff so it's a no go living in Cape Town.
I know Mikhail, I find it very frustrating! I think they just need to put a bit more time and effort into development and testing 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
I do often wonder that "trail" shoes like this are never really designed for British muddy paths but more summer firm rocky ones. They would not be yellow for long would they.
It's definitely not be designed for our tricky, wet and muddy trail conditions Tim or any other Countries wet and muddy trail conditions to think of it 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure yeah and I just commented to one of your other commentators that got very similar feeling in the Terrex Speed Ultra. I have the Terra Kiger 5 and remember doing a nice run up a firmish but non Tarmac old railway path. One where probably could have got away with road shoes anyway. Both them seem more like off road "tempo" shoes. Handy shoes to have for sure but not if expecting something else.
Just watching this after about six months running in TK7s and Nike have well pissed me off actually. The TK6 was essentially the perfect trail shoe for me with one major failing being its grip. I especially liked the firm, springy sole feel of the TK6. With the TK7 its as if Nike couldn't bare to offer very marginal, long overdue improvements in grip (and a slight improvement in upper, though tbh never had any problems with the 6) without ruining something else! To me, the midsole feels so different on the 7s it changes the whole character of the shoe, no bounce back, feels slow, zaps energy and makes the instability worse! Frustrating cause I feel like Nike could make unreal trail shoes if they wanted! Good review!
I feel your frustration! Nike have all the resources in the world to make great trail running shoes so I really don't know why they can't get it right!? The first thing they need to sort is the lack of grip and traction, pretty important in a trail shoe 😲 I was very disappointed in the TK7's and found them dangerous to run in and that's just not good enough! Glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you find something that works for you 😊
You need to check out the adidas TERREX Speed Ultra! I think you'll find that the Speed Ultra shoe is superior to the Nike trail shoes. Only week area is in mud, but it is such a fun, fast, grippy, and confident shoe to run in!
I hope it is Chad! 😂 I am actually going to get a air of the Terrex Ultras, I've heard good things and I haven't run in an adidas trail shoe for years 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Def one to give a miss then. I have been looking at the Adidas Terrex Speed Flow and speed Ultra, have you any exoerience of these? Im not sure the lug depth is enough for the trails but they look a nice shoe.
Speed Ultra is very nice - like an offroad Boston but, in a way, bit what Loyd is seeming to say about the Terra Kiger - it is best for going up tempo on fairly firm trails. When I hit some mud and wet in them foot got soaked straight away and wasn't sliding a bit.
I haven't tried them yet Daz but I will be getting a pair of the Speed Ultras to reviews soon 👍 Although judging by what Tim said I'm not sure it'll be the shoe for me? Surely it has to run better than the Terra Kiger 7 though 🤔 Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Based on comparison with Terra Kiger 5, the Speed Ultra is better as a “fast” off road shoe IMHO. I think it does depend on your typical terrain though and intensity. If looking for more comfort and more water resistance and more grip through mud then not an obvious choice.
Great review as always and I have to agree with you across the board. I sent mine right back after one run. While the slippery rubber was always an issue and they were never GREAT in mud. But I ran 50k distances in the Wild Horse 3 and 4 and did some decent technical runs in the Kiger 3 (dry trails) and they were by no means the best trail shoes out there, but they handled things well. I actually feel as though the looks of the shoes and the uppers have been the main focus and that the performance as trail runners has actually gotten WORSE. Seeing your videos the trails look similar to those here in Vermont. I even had a chance to chat with one of the Nike trail team runners and when the WH6 came out they were finding stability and traction issues and hesitant to get away from their WH5. Like you I just don't understand why they can't seem to innovate on their trail line like they do on their road shoes. Maybe version 8!
I totally agree with you Chris, it's such a shame Nike can't get their trail shoes right when you think of what they are doing on the road 👍 That's interesting what you said about one of their sponsored athletes. I'm sure that's why Nike can't keep hold of their trail athletes and they all end up leaving. Its because they don't rate the kit that they are given to run in 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I'm on the West Coast of Canada or as we call it the "Wet Coast" with various ocean and forest terrain, curious what your recommendation would be for me instead of this?
If you're running on wet, technical trails maybe check out these - Saucony Peregrine 10 or 11 Inov-8 Trailfly ultra, mudclaw, X-talon La Sportiva Mutant Salomon Wildcross VJ sports shoes are good in wet conditions also 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Excellent review mate spot on all looks no substance Nike need to be called out for their trail department interesting to know what kind of rubber they’re using the wildhorse 6 was hazardous in wet conditions!
Yeap it's really not good enough! I'm sure its the same traction on the Wildhorse and the Terra Kiger 7 and Yeap they are both pretty bad in the wet! 😲 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated Morgan 🙏
nice review but I don't agree with some of your comments, I'm out in Cyprus at the minute and I've found these mega for my first ever trail running shoes, I shall see how they feel when I run my first race in Troodos on the 4th July. I've wore them twice and found them pretty good and very comfortable out on the rocky/sandy paths out here.
Thanks Stuart, I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 😊 To be fair Stuart I dare say the trails that I run on here in Cornwall are quite different from what you are running on in Cyprus 🤔 Also I've run in 100's of different trail shoes over the years on lots of different terrains all over the World so I'm comparing the Terra Kiger 7 against a lot of different trail shoes. As you said it's your first ever trail shoe you've had so what are you comparing against? How do you know other trail shoes wouldn't feel even better 🤔
Most trail shoes produced by American companies are no use in typical British conditions. "Trails" in the US means anything that's not a road - mainly hard packed paths. They don't appreciate that in the UK "trail", for at least half the year, usually means soft going - mud! - and that deep lugs are necessary.
Very true Mark, it's such a shame there isn't more development done by the companies in British conditions! Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I personally wouldn't go for either! For the trail conditions I run on here in the UK the Nike Trail shoes don't perform very well! 🤔 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure ty ! i just discover on nike website the peg38 shield version ! its totally the same version as the 38 but with rain protection? so maybe i will go for this for the moment.
hi there i’m going to the grand canyon and zion nations park to hike trails that are paved, i’m not going to do any running. i love nike and was considering buying nike trail running shoes for hiking because i’m tired of wearing clunky boots. does anyone know if these shoes would be okay for that? or any recommendations?
They would be fine for that Felicia as long as its not wet! The outsole grip in the wet isn't that great and it can be pretty slippy 😔 Hope this helps and have a great time in the Grand Canyon 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
Definitely will stay with my hooka speedgoat running a lot of technical trails in Taiwan with lots of wet rocks etc. and I also usually don’t get stability issues with them even though they have a relatively big stack height
@@Run4Adventure very mixed trails with different surfaces and since it’s mostly hash runs i don’t know what the trail will be like. So I always try to be prepared for the worst normal trail is between 6 and 13 k with 200-800m of elevation
I'm not really that impressed with the Terra Kiger 7 Omar so I wouldn't really recommend it for anything. If your 50k is on dry, flat, compact trail then the Nike shoe would be ok 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
It sure is a shame Roland 😔 I'm sure Nike will get it right one day and produce a trail shoe that can handle the more technical side of trail running 👍 Thanks for the support as always!
I mostly run pretty paved trails or at least I run those enough that I would of loved to keep these for that purpose as they are more nimble than the other react foam options, but I regrettably had to send them back because I noticed even on perfectly level ground my feet would like tilt inward in them at the top of the shoe- I think cuz of that little dip in the outsole where there is a space instead of another lug, but maybe something else as I only tilted inward not outward. I think you mentioned something about that in your initial review. For my needs I have a good feeling about the 8 or maybe even the peg trail 3 if we get one.. For now my torrent 2 will do quite well. Imagine if hoka got the chance to make a shoe with react foam 😩😩
Sorry to hear you has issues with the Terra Kiger 7 as well Don 😔 I totally agree it just feel super rolly underfoot and very unstable! Let's keep our fingers crossed for the 8's and that Nike sort it out 🤞 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Nike Trail shoes win in the style department but their outsoles are trash. I just finished running many many miles in the Trail 2, Peg 36 Trail, and Wildhorse 6, and I had more slips and falls than anytime in my life. The Speedgoat outsole is far superior in my opinion. My newest default trail shoe is the Mafate Speed 3 and I’m loving it so far. Nice review as usual.
Nike Trail are definitely style over substance. Their trail shoes always look great and they draw you in 😊 Glad you've found a trail shoe that works for you and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I wanted the air zoom to the front foot, it is done, but it is sure that the rock plate over the entire length would have "maybe" been better, but if Nike did not do it, there is a good reason, then why not put the Air zoom also in the back.
I also thought the rock plate in the heel was dumb, but it actually provides stability to the heel and not rock protection. The React heel would be quite wobbly without it.
@@RowOfMushyTiT Lloyd’s review said it was unstable anyway and the stack height in the heel of most shoes seems to provide enough rock protection usually. Just my two cents.🤷♂️🤔🧐
Couldn’t agree more Loyd the Nike trail shoes are great for park paths and poured pathways. As for real trails with technical areas and off camber running it’s sooooooooo unstable. I would tell them to try square off the heel and flatten out the forefoot. Great review as always.
I bought this nike TK7, I must say that this shoe is extremely well finished, a high level quality, the update is for me perfect, the lacing is ultra effective, this shoe like many is not a mountain shoe pure, this is a shoe that largely has its place on a UTMB, after that you have to put it into perspective, I have friends who run in road shoes and who are doing very well, because without rain, no need for crampons, and god knows this nike has grip.
@@guilletjean-jacques5107 each has their preferences in shoes, for me it’s not in the same league as the Salomon, Innov-8, Saucony, la Sportiva and so on. If it works for you that’s awesome. I just don’t think it measures up when compared to the offerings from those shoes I’ve listed. 😁🙏
@@mikegamber8561 , I have the inov8 G270, not enough cushioning and rock protection for me, I had, altra olympus, hoka mafate speed 2, speedgoat 2, brooks caldera 3 and 4, I would not have bought the nike terra kiger 5 and 6, but version 7 has become a shoe made for the long haul, and more versatile, without being a la sportiva akyra .... I am currently running in the asics trabuco max, which is an excellent shoe (except the auto lacing that I replaced it with classic laces) and less stability, which is normal for an oversized shoe, this asics is for me the best oversize, but I wanted to find something a little less high, but still protective, and I must say that it works very well with this version of the TK.
You're totally right, a squared off heel and a flatter forefoot would've been a lot more stable. Unfortunately the shoe wouldn't of looks as cool then! Definitely style over substance 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Reading between the lines I think your not a fan of the level of grip??? I wore a much earlier version of them and quite liked it in summer, I think however others have progressed and Nike have stood still with their trail offerings which is a shame given where they are with there road racing line up
From what I gather Tom the earlier versions of the shoe were better, still no good in the wet but better on the dry stuff 👍 It really is a shame because I'm sure they could produce some great trail shoes if they put the effort in. Like you said they are definitely making some impressive road shoes that's for sure 😊 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
What is the main difference between this Kiger and Peregrine? (apart from the grip) I've barely tried them in store and they felt similarly flat. I really want a replacement for a very good Pegasus trail (perfect on dry stuff). So what do you like the most in the Peregrine ? In the end I might have to tell Peg that we will not split anytime soon 🤣 And, I shall wait until the Peregrine gets some of the endorphins from the road cousins... 😎
You're so right Christopher 👍 I've been really impressed with some of there road line up but I've always been disappointed with their trail running department! 😔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
You're right the React compound is quite heavy compared to others but it does run well on the road 👍 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment 🙏
Like you Loyd, I just don't understand why Nike don't make at least one shoe in their trail line up that is designed for technical, muddy trails. They do exist in the States, yet all of Nike trail shoes just seem designed for hard packed, buffed trails. 🤷♂️ Don't blame you for not getting to full review mileage with you coming back from your ankle injury.
It is very strange Stuart and there's definitely some super tech trails in the States 👍 It just makes no sense that all the shoes have the same issue, a lack of testing and development I think 🤔 Thanks for watching, hope you're on the mend 🙏
Didn't like the Kiger 7s at first, but for the high mileage stuff I found they are exceptionally comfortable. Didn't have any stability issues, maybe just a bit of lack of ground feel. Dry and mud grip improved a lot over the 6, wet grip not great but also not a deal breaker. It is no longer a agile race shoe, but rather a long distance cruiser shoe. Expectations need to be adjusted. Competes more with a shoe like the Speedgoat now. Very good cushion to weight ratio, and cushion is bouncy not mushy.
Unfortunately with a lack of ground feel and not great grip in the wet is definitely a deal breaker for me when it comes to a trail shoe, especially with the trails in run on. Surely they are both pretty important qualities for a trail shoe? 🤔 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Depends of course what conditions you run in. For long distance efforts in the Alps I like the comfort and cushioning. Wet grip on granite is fine, it's the limestone that it sucks on. Not a deal breaker since I just pick another shoe for that. Typically shoes which are good in mud are bad for long distance anyway.
Run4Adventure To come back to the saucony peregrine that you love so much, I have friends who have it, and they find it not very dynamic, and especially very fragile at the level of the esterieur sole, and a deplorable grip in wet conditions, like what, it is really interesting to see that a shoe can be your best, when for another person it will be the worst, opinions are always good to take, but you still have to make your own opinion in the end.
Totally agree Guillet, what's right for one won't be right for another 👍 For the trails I run this shoe really doesn't work and the level traction is shocking 😲 Nike could definitely do better with all their running shoe know how and their money, that's if they could be bothered with their trail running department. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
They must be Dean or could it be that Nike aren't actually testing and developing their trail running kit in the trail environment!? 🤔 Who knows but I do know one thing, they could definitely do better 👍 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏
I'm gonna play devil's advocate. I've recently ran 2 very wet muddy 5k trail races. One during a downpour and the other a day after. I did very well in both down hill and uphill and was one of the few people who didn't fall at all. Shoe actually drained really well to. I will agree there is a little stability issue on extreme technical but for most part I'm in love with the TK7. I still love your channel and one of few I subscribe to. Stay strong.
I like devil's advocate Camden Summers 😈👍 That's the thing with running shoes, it's super personal and what doesn't work for me, might work for someone else. To be fair though looking at all the comments it doesn't really work for the majority. I'm interested to know what shoe you ran in before the Terra Kiger 7? Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure I agree. It worried me while I was waiting for mine when I saw alot of people having issues. Maybe I just got lucky with a magic pair. And true they can't even come close to my Inov8 Roclite275 in the grip dept overall, but I'm pleasantly pleased with my pair of TK7. Stay strong. Run hard.
The Saucony Peregrine 10 is 10 times better at a lower price point :D aaand to sum up, this is a shoe that doesn't really need to exist, since you can run on compact trails with most asphalt shoes on the market :D I think you could have given a 10 in durability, since it never gets picked up, it's hard to wear it out hahaha
I totally agree with everything you've said! 😂 It's such a shame that Nike can't produce a better performing trail shoe. You'd think with all their money and running shoe know how they'd be dominating the trail running market! 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure I love your channel, Loyd! Keep it up! :) It's thanks to you that I picked my Peregrines and I'm super happy with them. Saved me on many muddy runs
Yeah, these shoes look great but that's about the only compliment I can give them. Easily the worst trail runners I've ever owned. In terms of my current rotation, these are miles behind the Hoka Speedgoat 5 and the Saucony Peregrine 12. Hopefully Nike's 60 return policy is as simple as it states on their website. Used the Kiger 7 for a ten mile trail run yesterday and they tore up both my heels. Also, it constantly felt like the insides of my feet kept wanting to slide down and out. Despite this, my segment and course times were some of the best I've had at this particular park; could just be because I'm getting in better and better shape and was able to overcome the pitfalls of these poorly designed shoes. Either way about it, there's no way I'd recommend these to anyone.
Nice comfy shoe for dog walking but certainly not trail running, in fact I probably wouldn't use it for dog walking either. I'm sure some people may like it, it's not for me though.
That's Nike's Trail running logo, they've been putting it on their trail shoes for a while now 👍 I actually quite like the logo but each to their own. Thanks for watching the channel 🙏

They are Hoka Speedgoat 2's Jatin. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏😊
Planning on reviewing the Wildhorse 7? I liked the update last year might be worth checking out.
Hi Casey
I actually reviewed the Wildhorse 6 on the channel and had a lot of similar issues that I had in the Terra Kiger 7. I found the shoe to feel quite unstable underfoot and grip was terrible in the wet on the trails I run!
I did look at the Wildhorse 7 but it's pretty much the same as the 6 so I didn't bother 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The Wildhorse 6 was very unstable in the heel and the grip was terrible in the wet 😲
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Glad you found the review interesting and that's running in general, it's so personal 👍
The only thing is if a trail shoe has poor traction that you can't trust then how can it be a great trail running shoe? Surely if you run on similar trails to me, Zennor, Lamorna, Bassett, Lands End etc then you want your trail shoes to have good grip? 🤔
I can also assure you it was the shoe that felt unstable to me and not me "babying my ankle" 😊
Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see Nike using Vibram Megagrip on there trail shoes because it would basically be Nike admitting that their rubber compound isn't good enough. I not sure a company as powerful as Nike are willing to admit yet 🤔
Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Thanks very much it really appreciated and I'm glad you're enjoying the channel 👍😊
First comment I think!! Salutes from Mexico great videos!!!

But when you hit the uneven stuff or heaven forbid some mud.... god help you 🤔

That's awesome Shaun 👍
Hope you had a great time on the trails of Cornwall! The St Ives to Zennor section is pretty interesting isn't it. You can imagine what that's like in the depths of winter 😲
You can see why grip and stability is so important for me in my trail running shoes. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
This shoe works well in dry climates, I run up the Hollywood hills trails works well. I also take them up to a few canyons in CA but I wouldn't recommend them in extremely jagged areas didnt support my ankle as much .
Totally agree 👍
It runs ok on flat dry trail or tarmac but it really can't handle the more technical stuff and if it's wet..... Hang on for dear life! 😲

It was an ankle sprain waiting to happen 😊
It was a massive improvement when they moved to the Speedgoat 2 and even better when the 3's came a long 😊

I prefer zero drop, but would go for minimal drop if everything else was on point. Come on Nike!

Great review there Loyd. Would agree with every word you mentioned about Nike in general when it comes to trails. You've probably been asked more times than you care to remember but are you planning on doing a follow up on the Inov8 terraultra 270? Would love to hear your thoughts?
Thanks Phil, that's appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍

I think they just need to put a bit more time and effort into development and testing 👍

I do often wonder that "trail" shoes like this are never really designed for British muddy paths but more summer firm rocky ones. They would not be yellow for long would they.
It's definitely not be designed for our tricky, wet and muddy trail conditions Tim or any other Countries wet and muddy trail conditions to think of it 😊

The first thing they need to sort is the lack of grip and traction, pretty important in a trail shoe 😲
I was very disappointed in the TK7's and found them dangerous to run in and that's just not good enough!
I am actually going to get a air of the Terrex Ultras, I've heard good things and I haven't run in an adidas trail shoe for years 😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Def one to give a miss then. I have been looking at the Adidas Terrex Speed Flow and speed Ultra, have you any exoerience of these? Im not sure the lug depth is enough for the trails but they look a nice shoe.
Speed Ultra is very nice - like an offroad Boston but, in a way, bit what Loyd is seeming to say about the Terra Kiger - it is best for going up tempo on fairly firm trails. When I hit some mud and wet in them foot got soaked straight away and wasn't sliding a bit.
@@TimGrose Thanks, I have seen your video review and am tempted.
I haven't tried them yet Daz but I will be getting a pair of the Speed Ultras to reviews soon 👍
Although judging by what Tim said I'm not sure it'll be the shoe for me? Surely it has to run better than the Terra Kiger 7 though 🤔
Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I totally agree with you Chris, it's such a shame Nike can't get their trail shoes right when you think of what they are doing on the road 👍
That's interesting what you said about one of their sponsored athletes. I'm sure that's why Nike can't keep hold of their trail athletes and they all end up leaving. Its because they don't rate the kit that they are given to run in 🤔

I'm on the West Coast of Canada or as we call it the "Wet Coast" with various ocean and forest terrain, curious what your recommendation would be for me instead of this?

Saucony Peregrine 10 or 11
Inov-8 Trailfly ultra, mudclaw, X-talon
La Sportiva Mutant
Salomon Wildcross

Excellent review mate spot on all looks no substance Nike need to be called out for their trail department interesting to know what kind of rubber they’re using the wildhorse 6 was hazardous in wet conditions!
Yeap it's really not good enough! I'm sure its the same traction on the Wildhorse and the Terra Kiger 7 and Yeap they are both pretty bad in the wet! 😲

nice review but I don't agree with some of your comments, I'm out in Cyprus at the minute and I've found these mega for my first ever trail running shoes, I shall see how they feel when I run my first race in Troodos on the 4th July. I've wore them twice and found them pretty good and very comfortable out on the rocky/sandy paths out here.
Thanks Stuart, I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 😊
To be fair Stuart I dare say the trails that I run on here in Cornwall are quite different from what you are running on in Cyprus 🤔
Also I've run in 100's of different trail shoes over the years on lots of different terrains all over the World so I'm comparing the Terra Kiger 7 against a lot of different trail shoes.
Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
is it better to go with kiger or trail 3 ? Im totally lost so i think i will get peg38 lul !
I personally wouldn't go for either! For the trail conditions I run on here in the UK the Nike Trail shoes don't perform very well! 🤔

They would be fine for that Felicia as long as its not wet! The outsole grip in the wet isn't that great and it can be pretty slippy 😔

Definitely will stay with my hooka speedgoat running a lot of technical trails in Taiwan with lots of wet rocks etc. and I also usually don’t get stability issues with them even though they have a relatively big stack height

I'm not really that impressed with the Terra Kiger 7 Omar so I wouldn't really recommend it for anything. If your 50k is on dry, flat, compact trail then the Nike shoe would be ok 👍

Top review 👍🌵 What a pity to launch a new trailshoe that isn't stable on real trails. The high stack doesn't help either... 🤷🏻♂️🙉
It sure is a shame Roland 😔
I'm sure Nike will get it right one day and produce a trail shoe that can handle the more technical side of trail running 👍
Thanks for the support as always!
Sorry to hear you has issues with the Terra Kiger 7 as well Don 😔

Nike Trail shoes win in the style department but their outsoles are trash. I just finished running many many miles in the Trail 2, Peg 36 Trail, and Wildhorse 6, and I had more slips and falls than anytime in my life. The Speedgoat outsole is far superior in my opinion. My newest default trail shoe is the Mafate Speed 3 and I’m loving it so far. Nice review as usual.
Nike Trail are definitely style over substance. Their trail shoes always look great and they draw you in 😊
Glad you've found a trail shoe that works for you and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
It looks like the Wildhorse 5.🤷♂️😳 Rock plate in the heel is dumb.🤔😬😂
Why do Nike call it a "Rock plate" then? 🤔
@@Run4Adventure Agreed, nobody needs a heel plate except in a construction boot. 😂
Definitely style over substance 🤔

Reading between the lines I think your not a fan of the level of grip??? I wore a much earlier version of them and quite liked it in summer, I think however others have progressed and Nike have stood still with their trail offerings which is a shame given where they are with there road racing line up
From what I gather Tom the earlier versions of the shoe were better, still no good in the wet but better on the dry stuff 👍
It really is a shame because I'm sure they could produce some great trail shoes if they put the effort in. Like you said they are definitely making some impressive road shoes that's for sure 😊

What is the main difference between this Kiger and Peregrine? (apart from the grip)
I've barely tried them in store and they felt similarly flat. I really want a replacement for a very good Pegasus trail (perfect on dry stuff).
So what do you like the most in the Peregrine ?
In the end I might have to tell Peg that we will not split anytime soon 🤣
And, I shall wait until the Peregrine gets some of the endorphins from the road cousins... 😎

It is very strange Stuart and there's definitely some super tech trails in the States 👍
It just makes no sense that all the shoes have the same issue, a lack of testing and development I think 🤔
Thanks for watching, hope you're on the mend 🙏
Didn't like the Kiger 7s at first, but for the high mileage stuff I found they are exceptionally comfortable.
Didn't have any stability issues, maybe just a bit of lack of ground feel.
Dry and mud grip improved a lot over the 6, wet grip not great but also not a deal breaker.
It is no longer a agile race shoe, but rather a long distance cruiser shoe. Expectations need to be adjusted.
Competes more with a shoe like the Speedgoat now. Very good cushion to weight ratio, and cushion is bouncy not mushy.
What’s the longest distance you have ran in them?
Unfortunately with a lack of ground feel and not great grip in the wet is definitely a deal breaker for me when it comes to a trail shoe, especially with the trails in run on. Surely they are both pretty important qualities for a trail shoe? 🤔
Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The Kiger 7 in no way competes with the Speedgoat, especially when we're talking about long distances.
@@Splifftone Maybe if you're a heel-striker...
Totally agree Guillet, what's right for one won't be right for another 👍

The Saucony Peregrine 10 is 10 times better at a lower price point :D aaand to sum up, this is a shoe that doesn't really need to exist, since you can run on compact trails with most asphalt shoes on the market :D I think you could have given a 10 in durability, since it never gets picked up, it's hard to wear it out hahaha

Nike trail shoes are disappointing. Peg trail 2 was nice for longer runs on dirt, but a boat. Hoka xtrerra torrent is light, grippy, cushioned.
The Peg trail 2 was definitely a comfortable shoe but it was a bit clunky and unstable on technical trails 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure for sure. Good for really long dirt roads
