Hey guys, Brad Litton from SimpleGuitar.com here with another beginner guitar lesson for you on the two things most beginner guitar players don't do that will greatly impact your playing.
In today's guitar lesson for beginners we're going over how most musicians only get one half of the magic of playing music because they spend all their time playing other peoples' music & no time creating music of their own or improvising.
When it comes to playing other peoples' music, someone had to be creative enough to write that music in the first place and some of history's greatest composers were known for their improvisational abilities.
We're going to break down how anybody, even you right now, can start doing more to write songs and improvise and how it's going to make you a much better guitar player right off the bat.
    Hope this helps you out

Thank goodness I know how to ( "roughly / loosely" ) compose from my classical training in high school/college and improv ( VERY LOOSELY) from Jazz band in college 😂😁
I'm even already working on a chordal instrumental piece (from your open chord video). Hopefully it'll translate to guitar just as close as it was in my mind.

I agree! It’s also cool to try out different tunings. It’s super intimidating if you only play other people’s music, but if you want to make your own style and and your own songs…. Trying out tunings beyond standard guitar (or ukulele) becomes fun. Improvisation is awesome… I want to try it more. ^_^

My musical journey started in the 7th grade playing alto sax. It wasn't until my jr year in high school till I learned about improvising, and that was because I enrolled in jazz band. That class blew my mind away! If it weren't for that class, I would still be a sheet music player lol

My jazz band teacher retired the year I graduated and I talked to him a few years later and he said, "The more I was in the public music system, the more I realized we do it backwards. We force kids to play the exact right note and the right time when the baton drops, or they get yelled at. And we do that for years and then in high school we throw them into jazz band and tell them to make it up!" It made a lot of sense to me. Improvising and starting to write your own stuff opens up a whole other world that anybody can access from day one.
