I played this for my music history class. When it was over...there was just silence. Then one of the students raised his hand and asked if we could listen to it again. Great music and great singing will do that. They were inspired and lifted up by this performance. I am so grateful.
Coming late to this party... where to start ... the blend of voices is heaven sent... Danielle has the most beautiful tones and colours... Philippe dancing perfectly.. balancing her perfectly throughout the duet ... tears flow... sublime...
It's absolutely beautiful when they hold that same note at the same time. I've always loved him, so now I think I better uncover some more of her talent.

Splendid singing by Philippe Jaroussky, as always. The other singers also were simply wonderful, especially the young soprano Ana Quintans, and of course Anna Bonitatibus was an extremely convincing and heartbreaking queen. A pity that even in this duet de Niese does not look at him at all, but is totally wrapped up in herself. And I find some of the costumes more eccentric than fitting, but who cares when there as such voices?!
Having more attention paid to Baroqe vocal music is encouraging, especially when done well. I certainly admire William Christie and the fine work he does. We also are fortunate to have some truly good countertenors such as these plus Andreas Scholl, Daniel Taylor, Matthew White, etc. I also wish we had today the uniquely beautiful voice of Paul Esswood as he sounded in his prime.

There are no sparks between Philppe and Danielle, almost no chemistry at all. This is a passionate love song, they call each other the sweetest things. But in this interpretation they don't even look at each other when they call each other "my life" and "my tresure". I love both Danielle and Phillipes voices, they are great singers. But as Poppea and Nerone, no, I'm not impressed.
between Philippe's moobs and Christie's instrumentarium sticking out obnoxiously as always, the theme of this video is PROTRUSION the music side is flawless, of course.
