- All was calm at the start of the Star Sports Novice Handicap Chase at Towcester, but that wasn't to last for too long...
Of the six runners, only two finished thanks to a round of thrills and spills and plenty of drama - including one horse going for a wonder and jumping off the course! Time to relive a 'memorable' contest...
All jockeys and horses reported fine!

That is really funny.He was smart enough to take some short cuts and skip some jumps, then join up with the crowd again. I believe he was having a good time!
Some of them are smart enough to spill their rider and end the abuse of being whipped and stressing their underdeveloped tendons.

I smile at the fact that the horses who lost their riders continued to race and jump for the love of it. People who dislike racing should see that the horses do it without pressure given the chance. Galloping along, ears pricked forward, obviously enjoying themselves.
They're just used to. That's no by pleasure, a horse happy is a horse who can satisfy all his needs when he wants.

- walk all the day
- exchange with his congeneres
- feeling in security
A horse can be happy to run... if he can run when he wants to run.
I don't like races because they don't respect the horses'growth at all, and because horses are overexploited.
As I don't like equestrian centers who put a begineer on a young horse and/or use horses way too much during 20 years... Or a CSO center which put horses in boxes all the day.
Personnally I don't think that classic ride is better than races but i think that it's more possible to respect horses'needs in classic centers than in the world of races. :)
ears preaked forwards can be just a horse who's looking in front of him or a nervous horse. That's just a sign of very big attention to what is in front of him. That's not a sign of pleasure. :)
A horse who feels good is a calm horse with the neck in the prolongment of his back, ears at 180°, all mussles decontracted. = all needs satisfied.
They can feel good during exercice if they can be decontracted. Sometimes it happens, especially if the rider take care of it ^^
I don't hate racing. I hate hurdle racing. It is wrong to make them jump those big fences at full gallop Those jockey's are crazy.

You obviously dont know horses, they run in a herd,horse loses his jockey,it will instinctively run with the other horses,plus all jockeys shouldnt be allowed to carry whips,just so they can beat the poor animal to the winning line, so wrong and cruel, howabout they change places,beat the prick jockey
@@marycorrigan9245 the whip does not hurt the animal and if it did the horse would let them know by rearing or bucking them off but they allow it Bec does it hurt no but do they feel it probably like a fly land on them but it doesn’t hurt they only are allowed also to use a plastic whip 4 to 6 times during the race or another type of whip with tasles only 5 times they limit how many times a rider can whip the horse that’s why they only use it at the end and sometimes in the beginning

Considering how many spills happen in steeplechase, it's a marvel that there aren't more injuries. Credit the riders, who know how to fall and roll/fall and crouch to protect themselves. As well, the loose horses, though they enjoy following along with their friends, usually stay to the outside, out of the way - unlike this one, which stayed right in the thick and caused a risk to the others. I laugh at the way most loose horses in jump races keep up, but cheat by skipping the fences, making it easier on themselves.
It’s just crazy how many jockeys have fallen off their race horses!

That first horse was like "Aw no! Lost my rider! Well, guess I'll still complete this race." Proceeded to come first despite having no rider. Which must have been an awkward conversation.

I'd win the race too if all my competitors had to carry a full grown man on their backs.
The horses without riders only ran because they are a flight animal and will keep running with the herd ,that’s just their natural instinct , like if a couple horses in a herd in the wild started running the rest would follow . It’s not that they love galloping it is just that it’s their instinct to follow the group and to run from “danger”.

One time when I was at a horse race the same thing happened and the one I voted and put a bet on was the horse that finished without it’s rider but obviously it didn’t win cos the jockey wasn’t on it :(

@@OfficialMuffiin Honey I hate peta i voulenteer at a local horse rescue centre and the majority of the 30 odd horses there are ex race horses saved from slaughter, I think I know a lot more then you one of the horses has three legs and the others have bruises and scars from being beaten by their owners and riders I also ride and the only time i hit my horse with a crop before using my legs and needing too he spooked, bolted and galloped off I felt horible and that was with one hit let alone the hundreds of hits they do in racing. The horses that come are scared because there owners buy young thouroghbreds hire someone to train them through fear and abuse and then the horses are etheir raced too young so their bones snap as their not fully developed and the ones that don't eventually get too old to win so when the money stops the owner carts them off to slaughter and if they're lucky they end up in a good rescue like ares or if not they're turned into dog meat and sent to Europe, and thats the reality of it hun Horses naturally want to please their rider as they're not an agressive animal and when it comes to confronting danger they'll run from it and not fight it. Using a crop continuously at high speeds completely damages the horse's hooves so they end up with conditions like thrush in their hooves due to neglect after abandoned. And its been scientifically proven that continuously using crops makes the horse go slower and its using power before technique. I used to support it until helping out at the resque and i realised the truth is their used as objects used to gamble on and around 90,000 die annually tell me thats ok I dare you, horses weren't even made to be ridden so riding them like this is terrible for their health and don't even get me started on how much they pull on the reigns it rips their mouths overtime and one horse came to us with infected cuts bleeding and spewing out puss on the side of its mouth due to neglection from the owner who bo longer needed the horse and wanted to pay for its vet fees. It's disgusting and if you think it's a good sport after reading this then you're a bad person and I'm not going to waste my time with sociopaths who get pleasure out of abusing animals its disgusting and that makes me feel physically sick...

They are all great horses, only thing holding them back are the jockeys. They only have a few runs in them and a "good" horse gives you al he is got, no need to hit them the whole time. Maybe at the last length depends on the horses character.

Its also carrying 110lbs less than the horses with riders so that gives it a huge advantage over the others.
I Love how whipping the horse makes it even worse, the one guy that whipped the horse fell off after smacking the horse, the other riders horse slowed down super fast

I'm against excessive use of the whip like that second faller, glad that happened, and I'm against fences that are too high, but I get the feeling some commenters think horses should just stand in a field staring into the distance, or stay in their stables all day, horses like to run and jump, watch them in the wild.

Mostly thoroughbred races are abusive. But to say the “racing industry” is not true. I know a lot of racers don’t abuse their horses. The quarter horse race industry is almost purely non abusive. And this is a small race, likely no abuse

Ive been involved with race horses for 40 years. I thought I'd seen it all. NOPE! wish we coulda seen the last horse to join the rider unseating party. Lol

don't stopracing. Have you ever tried riding a horse at around 30 plus m.p.h and steering it into a fence, believe me there is nothing you can do to keep it straight. I do wish people like you who make these comments should first of all go out and practice what you preach,.
Barbara Dyson well actually I do practice what I preach as I am an ex jockey and have worked in a yard. And all I said was what were the horses doing I have never seen a race like that. Does that pass your laws?
don't stopracing I worked for mouse morris many years ago and you should know how difficult it is to control a horse at that speed and keep is straight over a fence, I must say you surprise me saying you have never seen a race like that, what about the race at Newcastle where the leading horse actually dug his heels in and refused to go on until another came alongside passed him and he still refused to move. can't remember which year it was, then last year how about Might Bite at the rsa at Cheltenham, when he decided he had had enough and wanted to go home.
