GOLD recovery and refining from 10kg high grade electronic scrap, consisting of 3kg USSR ICs, 2kg ceramic CPUs and 5kg transistors.
To recover the gold I'll use the lead bath method. The scrap will be soaked in a bath (03:06) of molten lead and silver. After gold is taken up by the lead, the lead is removed by cupellation (1:09:10), leaving a DORE (1:10:29) consisting of gold and silver.
Additional silver will be added to aid the inquartation (1:10:51).
Further the gold and silver will be parted in nitric acid (1:12:05) leaving a partially purified gold residue (1:13:18), free from base metals and silver. The only contaminants that may be present are PGMs which will be removed during the refining process.
For the refining step I will dissolve the residue in aqua regia (1:13:43), and will precipitate selectively the gold with oxalic acid (1:16:45) leaving any PGMs that may be present in solution.
The precipitate will be washed (1:35:36), melted (2:05:45) and weighed (2:24:10)

Love the informative videos, quite a process to recover the Gold. I have a lot of 70’s era tech in my shed, several boxes of Hewlett Packard circuit boards with Gold plated circuit tracks and ceramic chips with Gold plated lead in pins and covers. I am sure there is a lot of potential Gold to be recovered but I do not have the resources to make it possible, hopefully I will be able to give the stuff away to someone who can have fun with it.
Great video. Next time try Parkes process. Before cupelling, melt lead with PM and add zinc. Melt on 400 C with stiring. Silver and gold will attach on zinc and form zinc-PM alloy that will float on lead. After that, roast that alloy on 500 C and zinc will evaporate. You will get min 95% pure PM. Best regards

Very cool. Have you ever tested the slag you drag off the lead bath for gold content? Seems like some could get trapped.

Thank You very much for this long..long ...but very precious video. For the first time I saw a new precipitation method with KOH and oxalic. How much you increase the PH value before addin oxalic powder ? At what temperature do you keep the solution ? Why you not use SMB to precipitate gold? Thank's OwlTech
You are most welcome! pH 3-4, boiling, I didn't use SMB in case there are any PGMs present, which SMB tends to drag down with the gold.

Sulphamic acid converts nitric to sulphuric acid, which precipitates any lead that may be left as lead sulphate. I use sulphamic acid

Great👏👏.. today i try your lead bath method and i get 5.5 grams gold.. first i started 3 kg lead and 330 grams silver.. but and of the cupel lead i get only 200 grams silver dore..After i dissolve the silver dore in nitric acid result is 194 grams silver and 5.5 grams gold.. but i don’t understand why i lost 130 grams silver.. can you help me (explain me please ) please for this ..

Today i make 2,6 kg mixed ic chip , 300 gr mixed cpu , 350 gr mixed gold plated pins, about 300 grams mobile phone touch button gold plated plastics..I started 3 kg lead and 307 grams silver for lead bath . After fine cupelling i get 646 grams dore..tomorrow i dissolve the dore in nitric acid.. but i live in an island Cyprus.. just i find %92 nitric acid and %16 fosforic acid mixed in a bottle .. is it problem if i use this acid for dissolve the precious metal dore? @@OwlTech333 No, I'm not joking.. You should know that to get .999 fine then you would have to purify between 2 - 3 times... Plus you did a recovery for gold, which you wrote in the description *Dirty Gold*... And that is usually between 10k / 14k. But I wish you had cleaned it up to show how much You ended up with..
