      Holly M. Go to Bob’s CheapRVLiving UA-cam channel. Scroll down to his Vlog Update on RTR 2018: Join Us published October 23, 2017. In the video description directly under the video, go down to the second paragraph. He refers you to another vlog that gives the GPS coordinates and a map to the RTR. You can also go to his blog and he gives the information under Meetings, I think it is. Hope this is what you’re looking for.

    Thanks again - it is a tricky puzzle to figure out and Jim is so helpful on the forums - and with these videos it has gone a long way to helping ensure I don't make TOO MANY mistakes. Really like his antenna set up. I still don't know (like another poster below) if my weboost is even working. I've bought two now (the first definitely didn't show a difference in signal strength) and the second I thought I saw a slight difference when I checked it via a phone app that recorded the db. But because the signal fluctuates, it's hard to tell. It seems minor. Well, it's wired in now and "I think" I get slightly better UA-cam streaming I'm going to replace the stubby with the directional when I head out west.

    Thank you for making this Second Video ..... I was chatting with a guy at Quartzsite Library yesterday who thought he had to just pick up the Flashed Verzion 3G setup to get what the man in the previous vid was speaking of ...
    I tried to explain to him that the unit the Mifi Station was sitting in was a Wilsons/Weboost cell booster and most likely the man was also using a good quality external Antenna to be able to have a steady 3G signal ...he said I was Full of it....
    This Video should help to clear things up for him and othes.

    • @jimbarnaby3547
      @jimbarnaby3547 7 років тому

      In Quartsite he will likely get a usable signal without the booster. The biggest issue with Verizon there is it becomes overloaded during the big tent event.

    • @reasonmatters795
      @reasonmatters795 7 років тому

      Depends where in Quartzsite you are ...my wife and I live in our Travel Trailer in a park here that's 2 blocks away from the "Downtown Quartzsite" cell Tower ... so we could do without the Weboost/Antenna setup just fine.
      But people in the LTVA's would probably do best with a Booster antenna setup.
      And O Yeah the Cell signals get overloaded here during the winter months...same thing happens with the Wifi at the parks here.

    I once bought 6 different cheap hdtv antennas on amazon/ebay. Turns out the best antenna was an old one from a analog TV I found in the garage. I get 100 stations indoors in Los Angeles. You still need to use a powered amplifier but I surprised how well it worked.

    • @jimbarnaby3547
      @jimbarnaby3547 7 років тому

      There is no such thing as a HD antenna. You are right too. Those big antennas on houses in the 60's and 70's are the best at getting signals.

  • @andrewevanoff1192
    @andrewevanoff1192 7 років тому +4

    It may be hard to see but the directional antenna looks like it's mounted upside-down. There should be several water (moisture condensate) drain holes on the bottom of the antenna's enclosure. The antenna label looks like it's upside-down as well. It's very important to mount the antenna with the drain holes on the bottom. He also needs some strain relief on the coax cable.

    So I'm having an issue setting up a weboost 4g home amp and pad antenna kit along with a 12dbi premiertek omni pole antenna. I dont understand why it's so hard to find info and videos over how to properly run these two together. Right now I have a flag pole in the air with the omni on top of the pole. And the weboost pad right underneath it. I thought this is how I saw other people do it. My lines are running direct no splits no cuts, brand new line. Wilson 400 low loss 50' running to the omni into the back of my netgear nighthawk m1. Rg6 running to the weboost (75 ohm setup original white cable it came with) my signal is fantastic inside I've checked it and checked it. -55 DBI Cant ask for much more than that. Yet my speeds are still all over the place. I have ample power going to all so I'm almost positive it's just the antenna placement causing this. The weboost has zero oscialltion so I know it's not that. It's the omni and the directional interfering. How can I properly set this up on my fifth wheel. Please please help. thank u.

    Not sure if this already exists but after listening to Jim I got an idea for a cell phone app that would supply what service works where on a map. Like GasBuddy it would tell the user what to expect where.

    • @jimbarnaby3547
      @jimbarnaby3547 7 років тому +1

      It would be a useful app. There are sites that report users ability to get cell service. The App I use on my phones Network cell info lite (free) shows me what tower the phone is connected to. Cellreception.com will show you all of the towers for all the providers in your area.

    The RV signal booster you link to seems to be $100 more than the home one, and the difference seems to be "boost while driving". If you only need to "boost while camped", would the home version work just as well, and save $100?

    • @youtuberculosis6267
      @youtuberculosis6267 7 років тому

      I guess you link to two different boosters, the first is an "RV Motorhome" ($499) and the other is a single-device cradle booster ($179). The first doesn't seem to have a cradle, so I thnk the one in the video must be the cheaper one? I'm confused about why there are two links.

    He might think to clamp the down lead to the pole to take strain off the connector. The combination of gravity and a strong wind could easily pull the cables out of the connectors, or even the body of the antenna itself.

      Wayne Davis, I watched the video for how to build the one Jim had. It did not explain much. In the very, very, olden days the antennas on our roofs had to have separate little poles for higher frequencies, and our sets had separate knobs for these stations. I know the extremely low frequency antennas for communicating with submerged submarines had to be mind-bogglingly, enormously long. That is the extent of my knowledge of this subject. Sorry I offended you. It must be nice to know everything about everything, and to never need to ask questions.

    • @rasputinaxp
      @rasputinaxp 6 років тому

      Butch Kelin Untrue. Digital and analog have nothing to do with transmission type; TV stations still broadcast in UHF and VHF. Some even still in VHF-lo, like WABC 7 in NYC and WPVI 6 in Philadelphia. VHF-Hi stations include WNET 13 Newark/NYC and WHYY 12 in Philadelphia as well. The other stations in those areas are on UHF. Low-power analog transmission cutoff is still 2021.

    • @jimbarnaby3547

      There are several things to know. What bands does your provider use in your area and does both the weBoost/Sleek and your phone support them. Also I have had the chance to see a number of set ups in various areas. Sometimes the small antenna makes a difference, sometimes it takes the directional to get anything at all.

      I am always on the move here in the Colorado Rockies (for the summer) so I have no "area" and the many times I've tried it it has never seemed to improve any signal at all. And I have Verizon. Maybe I have it mounted wrong or something.

      I was in the Rockies for a few months and honestly T-Mobile and Sprint did better than Verizon in some areas. When there was a Verizon signal it was often congested or just 2G. In any event the plan I use I developed for camping in the Rockies which can be very tricky to get internet at all in.

      When I was in little Gunnison CO, I could only get coverage on the SE side of town but none or very poor in the rest of town. No hills in the way. The college was out for the summer so maybe that tower was not being used as much as the other 2?
