Yes finally a Fellini boxset unboxing. Can't wait to get mine.
you've love it.
I’m glad you’ll be exploring late Fellini as I believe it’s just as good as his earlier period. And The Ship Sails On, Satyricon, Roma and Amarcord being highlights for me, and all masterpieces from my point of view
the first two you mention are really top of my list.
Thanks for sharing this unboxing of that Fellini set! It looks awesome. I’m tempted to pull the trigger and pick this one up before the Barnes and Noble sale expires. Enjoy it! 😀
you're welcome!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m gonna get mine for Christmas, and I was really curious what the packaging looks like. Oh yeah, I subscribed too.
you're welcome. it'll be a great xmas gift to yourself.
Man, that is such a gorgeous set!! Criterion really knock it out of the park with sets like this! New subscriber from the UK here, keep up the great work!! 👍🏻💿💿
thank you!
This is the first unboxing video that has interested me. Great video. Great channel.
heh, and I haven't found any that have ever interested me. thank you.
Thanks for doing this! I've been thinking about purchasing this item.
you're welcome.
Just ordered!
Hope you got it from barnes and noble. 50% off right now!
It is a FANTASTIC collection and beautifully done!!!
yes, I agree. worth buying.
Beautiful cover, everything looks beautiful
Lots of Amazon reviews are complaining about the discs coming loose in shipping, so I’m rather worried about mine.
it's not a tight jacket they are fitting into.
Update: Mine just arrived, and unbelievably no discs were loose. Phew.
Neither the Fellini nor the Bergman box-sets are completely comprehensive; there are films to which the rights are not available. Fellini's Casanova is, for instance, being released in a new 4k-restoration by Kino Classics on December 8th in the US. Orchestra Rehearsal and The Voice of the Moon are also available from other companies. And it's the same with Bergman; i think several of the films he made for Swedish Television (SVT) are not available in the set.
yes, that's right. thank you.
Do you think you'll do more unboxings videos?
do you have any suggestions? I have no problem doing them, but I tend to fall behind the trends and usually miss something new coming out. feel free to give me a heads-up on anything you think is worthy of such a video.
You have to watch La Dolce Vita, man. It's one of the greatest movies ever made.
yeah, I know. Ebert said it was one of his favorites.
@@LearningaboutMovies It's in his Top 10
@@mimicrybypravesh it’s his favorite movie period
I think I will consider getting this box set the next B&N sale next year. I have only seen 1 Fellini movie, 8 1/2, which I thought was relatively entertaining. So many 'in the movie industry' types talk about it like its one of the greatest movies ever made because its a movie about making movies. I bet his other works have a broader appeal.
yes, for sure. sometimes I watch these movies just to look at Rome, or Italy, in whatever way they want me to.
Does the packaging make the discs more prone to scratching?
probably if you kept taking the discs in and out of the sleeve. I convert the discs to mp4s so that I don't have to do that.
Had to get a replacement, so many scratches on mine. Make sure u guy check your discs.
good to know that it can be replaced for that reason.
haha I opened mine 2 days ago and had the exact same thought process...1) it's ginormous, 2) it's 14 movies?? 3) does the back thing come off? 4) some discs fell out :( 5) there's books!!!
the size was shocking because I'd seen the pictures online but with no point of reference for measurement.
@@LearningaboutMovies A few days after I ordered it, it went on sale and I was miffed but...now that I have it, I'm glad I paid full price.
I had some discs fall out as well. I posted a warning on the Criterion Subreddit because I figured I wasn’t the only one. Now I know for sure that I wasn’t the only one.
When I heard that this collection was being released I was thrilled. Unfortunately it does not contain all of his films, missing his Casanova film and his final few films. I still have yet to see his last film Voices of the Moon. The reviews I have read on Amazon make me a little hesitant to buy it, primarily because of issues with loose discs. However the extras that come along with the discs is a feast for all Fellini fans. Not only the films themselves but loads of documentaries , commentaries, as well as a remastered version of a short film he did titled Toby Dammit. It's a bargain for $135.00.
yes, and potential buyers should wait for the occasional 50% off sale from either Criterion or Barnes and Noble.
just got mine, the only thing is the way its packaged. The disks may get ruffed up in the cardboard sleeves.
yes, true.
Not really a Fellini fan but that set looks amazing!
I wish I knew who designed it, in order to give them credit.
@@LearningaboutMovies I designed the set! (Credits are fairly small and in the back of the film guide.) Thanks so much for making a video!
i got this tooooo. bluray Roma was * chefs kiss *
yeah!
I mentioned on your Nights of Cabiria video a couple of weeks ago that you and I were similar in that we both respected Fellini, but weren't amazed by him. I figured you had seen 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, though, which are by far generally considered his two best films and two of the greatest films of all time. That you haven't seen them (I'm assuming from the comments you haven't seen 8 1/2) indicates that your assessment of Fellini could change considerably once you do. I can say they're both pretty similar in terms of tone, structure, and characters, although 8 1/2 deals with more fantastical elements and dream sequences and is more "arty," while La Dolce Vita is a little more accessible to the average filmgoer. Whatever you think of one is probably a good predictor of what you'll think of the other. If you think either or both are great, I'd appreciate a video analyzing them, as I'd like to hear your view of what makes them great. I've seen both twice, first in 2011, then again in 2014, and I'd like to reassess them again if I could go into it with a new or interesting perspective.
As for me, I also got some films from the Barnes and Noble sale I'm really excited about. One is a box set combining Yojimbo and Sanjuro, and another is Bergman's "faith trilogy" (Through a Glass Darkly, Winter Light, and The Silence). I also got Tess and Paris, Texas, two films which you've recommended on this channel, and which both feature Nastassja Kinski. Looking forward to watching all of them.
I've seen about half of the boxset, though mostly not in HD. Same with 8 1/2, which eludes me as a great movie, even though I should be in the target range for that movie (e.g., stressed out, middle-age bourgeois guy). they say it requires multiple viewings, and that's one of the very few movies that I might consider worthy of that amount of time.
enjoy your new movie pickups!
I ordered this set and the bergman...i don't have space for both...found this vid trying to see how big the packaging is
about record album size or larger, not terribly thick (1.5 inches maybe).
pls do more video on fellini and antonioni
I plan to. There's a video each on Blow-Up and The Passenger, both Antonioni films, on this channel.
@@LearningaboutMovies yeah do so plsss!! actually I am a huge fan of Antonioni's triology & All of Fellini. Like what you have done with Bergman & Kurosawa. I actually recently discovered your channel, more power to you just do it .
from India, kolkata,another cinephile ❤❤
Now bring on the François Truffaut set!
maybe I should do a video on what sets we need. I am guessing they have a Kurosawa one in the works, given all of the HD versions of his movies that they have. Same, perhaps, with Ozu.
@@LearningaboutMovies, that'd be a cool video. My guess is Satyajit Ray will be next because it is his 100th birthday next year. Fellini and Bergman got box sets for their 100th. Just a guess. Though I want a Kurasawa as much as the next guy, I think (I think not sure) Criterion has most if not all Truffaut.
ah, that is it. they have a lot of HD Ray on the channel. great observation.
Should I sell my other copies of the films in this set?
to get the set, yes. I've been digitizing the films for the last little bit, and they all look great.
What are your thoughts on La Strada by Fellini?
worth watching. I found it hard and brutal, perhaps what it was meant to be, and I would rather rewatch "Nights of Cabiria." Eventually we'll go through the Fellini boxset on this channel, and I'll put out a few Fellini videos, possibly one on La Strada.
Just for the record; The Clowns (1970), Fellini's Casanova (1976), Orchestra Rehearsal (1978), City of Women (1980), Ginger and Fred (1986) and The Voice of the Moon (1990) aren't included in this otherwise beautiful set.
thank you.
The Bergman set is definitely NOT comprehensive. It has all the essential stuff, but there’s still a LOT of his work that’s not in there.
good correction. thank you.
Like Face to Face
Hi, is it possible to get the deminsions of the box set in inches please?
my eyeball guess: 40 cm x 40 cm. Possibly Criterion's website can give you exact dimensions.
Now, you cand add 8 1/2 to your what makes this movie great list! Hope you enjoy it
yeah! I will eventually.
It is a beautiful set and I cannot wait to receive mine. New subscriber here!
excellent! you will enjoy it, no doubt.
