In this video, we look at how species evolve through natural selection.
This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification.

Hey, I was wondering doesn't Darwins theory appear in combined due to its link to natural selection?
Yes

Hi, could you. Make a video where you go through some difficult biology exam questions?
Luke Johnson I’d actually like this, once all of the videos are done, he could attempt some 6 markers and do a “walkthrough” so to speak. Not a problem if you can’t @FreeScienceLessons just an idea, another idea would be, for more difficulty topics he could attempt a 6 marker related to that question.
To be honest, if you've done enough revision you should easily be able to gain a couple of marks on the 6 markers, if not full marks. For instance, there was a 6 marker for B2 in one of my mocks and it was about adaptations in the Arctic (or something like that) and I got full marks because I remembered stuff from my revision guide.
how
You have to remember it doesn't come naturally to people. The application of knowledge, I mean. The lowest I really get is 4/6 but trying to teach others helped me learn that not everyone can retain and apply as easy

Would the gradual change in the eating, or hunting habits of an animal be considered evolution by natural selection?
I don't think it's a change in the inherited characteristics but even then it could be a result of adapting to the ever-changing environment, for instance climate change or the migration of other animals in an area.
No I don't think so. Natural selection is the result of mutation, producing new alleles. What you're describing does not suggest that any new allele has formed or that the change in behaviour can be inherited.
you got the man to reply to you. what a legend
@@Freesciencelessons Except changes to dietary requirements or getting better/worse at storing food/energy, right?

Hey to the guys who are studying at Saint Nicholas School
So what is the definition of evolution as i got a bit confused which one it is and the aqa specification is very confusing? Oh and by the way thanks for your help.
why there is only 59 comments on a video that the views reached 100k?? ( without counting my comment)
Because were all in a rush to get science done
Biology exam today 😎😎😎
how was it 🙌🏼
But how does the rabbit spontaneously get the allele for thicker fur?
By random mutation.
Complicated cell stuff. A channel called 'the amoeba sisters' have a few good detailed videos on it if you're interested
Ben West or maybe just a random mutation?
@@JG-qo1os yh but then why don't they get other random mutations, that dont kill them

Is a rabbit chaning its features like its fur called evolving though natural selection?
Priya Vadgama I believe so
hi sir, is everything you say in the videos worth making flash cards on?? for example- like how many different species there are in the uk. thank you
yes it is worth it but make sure you understand it first as well don't copy word for only in note form .
@@kierananderson5805 no you're wrong, you don't need to know the amount of species in the UK you just need the main points about how evolution and genetic variation can help them. Stop spreading information which could affect others GCSEs if its not even right.
🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
But surely the reason why the stark change in the two species' phenotype occurs is, because the two species have different genotypes. As a result, different proteins have been determined by the two species which develop different characteristics, consequently their different phenotype?? So what I'm trying to say is that, isn't speciation the reason of different genotypes which leads to the big difference in the phenotypes of the species, so the two species become different as they cannot breed and successfully produce a fertile offspring??
No speciation does not lead to different genotypes. Infact it's the reverse really. Mutations lead to different genotypes and phenotypes and then the effect of this can be speciation.
Freesciencelessons Oh okay I see now, thank you for explaining it
can alleles of the rabbit or the animal change due to changing of environment or once an animal born with specific alleles, for example, thicker fur, won't change
No, the alleles themselves or their genetic information won't change. That stays forever.
Instead, the animal will survive/not survive the changes in the environment depending on the alleles it has been born with.
But this helps in the long term, as it creates a population of rabbits with beneficial alleles- like thick fur/ good eyesight (because the animals that survived of harsh conditions would have passed their alleles down to their offspring if they reproduced.)
i think youre confused as most triple topics you mention, show up in combined.
No all my videos are based very carefully on the spec. Sometimes a concept is touched on in combined (in which case it will be in a video) but are then in much greater detail in triple (in which case they will have a dedicated video).
