- Honey, I shrunk the satellites! Mini-satellites are following in the footsteps of cell phones and computers. CubeSats are small but highly capable of performing a variety of space missions. For more about our CubeSats, visit www.jpl.nasa.go...
Yeah I could do with another ten minutes of depth and detail.
probably
Yeah that’d be nice
I would like this so much more if it was a longer format.
+chrthiel Yeah. Maybe something 25-30 minutes long for TV broadcast, with a lot more detail.
It's kind of sad these days how people need loud music and flashy lights to keep their attention while watching a video on engineering. TBH I would be completely satisfied with a few cutaways, some diagrams, and footage of the thing in action.
+IAN 4000 yeah, you would be, but sadly most people would not be. Look at some of the older videos on this channel.
@@NathanWubs why care about idiots?
Ohhhh boy you must be depressed with how things have now become
More detail in the videos please! Two minutes doesn't do this justice.
+Christopher Goetting www.jpl.nasa.gov/cubesat/
+Christopher Goetting Yeah. This seems like the introduction summary to a ten-minute segment of a science programme.
They really need to go more technical and in-depth.
+Christopher Goetting These videos are made for average idiots. EDIT: with the attention span of a chicken.
+700007123 That just mean they don't know their subscriber base
+chrthiel They don't make these videos for their subscribers. They make these videos for the public.
It should definitely be longer. Nothing relevant was told here other than that it exists. Other than that, the choice of music is distracting to say the least.
They missed out on a very critical naming opportunity. At 1:13 they start talking about mars cube one (marco) but they were sending 2 to mars. Why couldn't they name one marco and the other polo? or are they saving that joke for when they send one of these cubes to Pluto "Pluto One Low Orbit" or somthing.
I would like to learn more about the technical details. For instance which propulsion system is used for attitude control?
And Marco did the job perfectly! (EDL InSight, 2018.)
It could have done without the music. Loud, distracting and not a good choice.
+fegolem it's too 90's. They need to talk to UA-camrs & UA-cam Space on how to keep it simple. Plus I am not sure they read the comments here.
I'm quite impressed that we're sending cubesats interplanetary, and for such a specialised task as a relay just for EDL, it's a great low-cost solution
I'm just surprised InSight even needs dedicated relay satellites. I would've thought the MRO or Mars Odyssey would've sufficed as relay satellites
Linking all the CubeSats gets you the next layer of the Internet - a Solar Sphere.
Just enough information to whet one's appetite. Very interesting!
If you guys watched the whole video you would realize at 2:42 the guy instructs you to click a link IF YOU WANT MORE INFO
less crazy, more science please!
I wonder if SpaceX Starlink constellation will consist of cubesats or full grown satellites? With the constellation being 12.000 satellites I'd be surprised if they weren't cubesats. If I'm not mistaken, the two prototypes they launched some time ago weren't cubesats but they weren't "big" satellites either.
Edit: they were called "microsats", launched in space on the SpaceX PAZ launch early 2018.
I love this stuff they're getting into now...
Woah, I can't wait to see how this cubesat tech evolves.
That Marco cubesat is now orbiting mars
Let's learn about satellites !
[GROOVE METAL MUSIC INTENSIFIES]
borg cube baby :D
better be far away in space when it is fully grown
That is some pretty exciting stuff, the roles for those little spacecraft are endless, can't wait to see how they fare on there way to mars.
+Kevin H Yeah, as far as design implementation / space and weight, goes it's one of the best ideas in the last decade when it comes to satellites. Add to that the fact that universities can apply or buy space to launch these and it's beyond awesome. There are kids today that have launched such cubesats. Back in my day that was unheard of.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CubeSats
aserta Absolutely !
2:24 that face
watching this really makes me wonder: are todays cubesats the precursors to swarms that could, for example, be used to colonize a new planet (i.e. a small payload which deploys into a robotics factory, which deploys into a "terraformer"/factory, along with a swarm of droids to operate/maintain it), obeservation/science swarms, etc.?
i would like to hear if this is something that is actually being considered within the scientific community and if not, would someone be so kind as to introduce the idea at least?
best fun i had in my life
I suspect much of the technology is proprietary, hence the skimping on detail
This is so cool.
Cubesats will be travelling to the closet stars ✨ - Solar sails & Cathode Ray Tubes - electron guns.
It is time to bring back S.A.T.S. It is all setup for it now, smart phones, airlines faltering. Could be a lot of fun.
dunno if kick a field goal with one of those or take it serious
I wondered what happened to all our old XP tower Computers ... : )
Origins of the BORG
So if this works: we will be the little martions!
Ooohh that's going up with InSight! My name is going too :D
Andy makes the same face at 0:28 and 2:24
Yesterday, InSight landed :D
I hope you guys listen to what the comments are saying here! Your primary audience are people into hard science and want real detail, not just popsci stuff.
You missed comments like this one:
"cool can I haz space brick I wanna haz a tiny telescope so I can zoom in on planets and check for aliens it's my sat, so get off my mat, government sucks"
Did they do the job?
The format being clickbait, does not do the content justice. Signal relaying in difficult situations using cubesats launched with the same mission, separating them early to save energy. Cool ideas.
you kept dumming down the details, i had to reaseach myself how to build a cubesat, now the only part i'm missing is the Communications module and that expensive ion propulsion
I learned a lot u know.. didn't know they we're small cube-computers doing satelite work.
Great satellites ...
I can totally see a space tourist getting killed by space debris in 20 years. Time stamp it.
+walperstyle lolol
I would love to see a more engineering and technical version of this channel instead of a just a main stream news like format that is is now.
The sound quality could be better.
Dear NASA
I want this MARCO, when will we get this on GITHUB?????????????
Looks like miniature Borg Cube from Star Trek : The Next Generation
awesome! thank you to don't put this secret defense or something!
Very cool :-)
Remember this?
MARCO is a radio repeater with a thruster pack. But no explanation of why a cubesat is necessary for the mission. Still, this video was too short and yes the music was distracting.
very nice
I made a CubeSat with CAD
Marco just launched a few days ago!
I'm kind of surprised they don't load a spacecraft with dozens of these, send it to Mars (or insert any body in space) and scatter them in a way that allows complete coverage of said planet with instruments.
India won it that time with smallest cubesat🇮🇳
thanks for your info.
2min video about 2 years project
Hey buddy...wassup? do you know that because of Moore's Law it is now possible to get Kessler's syndrome?
Playing in fast forward or am i tripping again?
We shall build them larger and larger as we assimilate other beings and add their technology to our own. Resistance is futile.
Interessante!
Kessler syndrome in a cube, though I do like the idea.
how are you dealing with the space debris problem though?
+GooglPlusSucks that makes a lot of sense. Didn't think about that :)
+Silver Surfer maths
+Silver Surfer I don't need to, I'm not the one sending them up, and I don't have all the variables. The people that do can calculate what the escape velocity is for the altitude that they want to send them to. Less speed than that equals dropping back to earth. Gravity sucks
Can you build a cubesat at home?
@@katylase i would like to build one too
Why do they try to convey science in this rock video?
V'Ger!
01:44
bad ass
The two geniuses!
it's very cheesey is it for children? this vid
Tell the conspiracy theorists that they are chem trailing mars
The firs satellite was deploy by Israel students 2 years ago!
Made it today cuz i met sam gemar
I suppose those CubeSats are disposable. If so that's going to be a lot of trash and junk.
+GooglPlusSucks That would make sense so they wouldn't end up crowding the orbit. Although I just read an article about this subject on discovery saying over a third of all cubesats launched are expected to remain in orbit for over 25 years.
I also wonder how thoroughly they burn in the atmosphere. How much of it is going to make it on to the ground and how that junk/trash is going affect the environment.
we don"t have money to buy some machines to do the small satellite. but we have brain to do something special.
built around a CPU.. NOT that great.. They obviously have heating issues.. why square? in a clutter and bouncing? sorry I like my sphere.. they can fold out and bounce off other objects.. They can keep there Walmart style sats.. I'll take the REI version.. you can grow your own fuel.. collect salvage to 3d print a rockets.. it actually very easy to run a junk yard and make money building rockets to launch into space.. SO STOP BUILDING ON TOP OF LAND FILLS.. That's rocket ships material..
Get rid of the manic music, slow down, and try to provide information not excitement. I love this sort of stuff but I couldn't watch more than a minute.
First like!!!!!
Wow, you just found a way to make science boring, good job. If you need a script to talk about what you've been doing for last months or years of your life, you shouldn't be part of public engagement.
The host is really annoying.
then y u watch this then?
+ruben vong Because I did not know that the host is really annoying.
And I'm interested in the underlying information, not the presentation layer itself.
Cubsatsvare the way. Of fighting wars now glibal war on terroisam they can wipe the p 'll anet it out just with one cubsat
