Everyone above me is wrong. Pineapple has a pH of around 3.7, the same as an apple. The reason pineapple feels like it's burning is because pineapple has a bunch of the enzyme Bromelain in it. Bromelain breaks down proteins. In reasonable amounts, it's actually pretty helpful, and can alleviate things such as arthritis. When you eat an entire goddamn pineapple, it starts dissolving the inside of your mouth, which can be described as painful.
