I'm also currently chasing a squeaking belt. I've changed out the harmonic balancer, tensioner pulley, idler pulley and I've changed the belt 3 times. Everytime I change something, it fixes the problem for awhile (between a week and a few months) but the squeal always comes back. I'm going to try the alternator next and if that doesn't do it, honestly I think I'm at the point where I'm just gonna spray the belt once a week with that belt dressing crap that everyone says not to use.
I did my harmonic balancer myself in my garage on jack stands before I got Quick Jacks... Watching you literally disassemble the C5 & put it back together again... I know you can do it... Other than a little time consuming... The bugger is torking down the balancer bolt... Change the Shaft seal also... Definitely easier with another guy... If I can do it... I know you can too...
Check your harmonic balance or when the engine is running does it wobble back-and-forth a little bit if it does it needs to be replaced it will cause the belt to chirp because it’s sliding back-and-forth on the other pulley I am replacing one at work right now on a C6 Corvette has the same problem
My alternator on my 04 SSR has squeaked for years. It’s chromed and I just had it rebuilt, still squeaks! Seems to get quieter when it get warm tho. So I just turn up SXM!! Then it’s fine!
*To avoid all that problem before it's happens just add epoxy to that top of the spring ends and all done never come off anymore ido that when l decided to paint my mirror... Good job Chris 🏁*
Nice job on the mirror. Taking a trip in the heat just makes it that much cooler. I'll have to head over to the next Cars N Coffee with my son and his 2006 Charger and say Hi.
My ATI balancer and AMT motor mounts are going on this month. If anyone else is thinking about outsourcing these jobs doing them together is not a bad value if your mechanic likes you!
Hey Chris, how much was the alternator rebuild? What was the cost difference between going that route vs brand new? Hopefully not the balancer, good sign that it isn't wobbling though. Good idea with the tint, especially in your climate!

Great vid as always. Have a quick question for anyone My c5 won’t start unless I open my passenger side door first to trip the flashing security on my dash. If I open my drivers door in the am the security won’t flash most of the time for the car to start. It’s like my bcm isn’t waking up when I get in drivers side only. Anyone had this happen or what it could be? Is there a security wire or something attached to the door lock?
I think Corvette engineers just have a sick sense of humor? They put things together just so they can laugh at the trouble people need to go through just to fix them.
Is that same cop going to pull you over to give you a "warning"? (really just checking out your car). Are ya going to stop at the same Mexican place for lunch? (I'm living ......well .....eating lunch - vicariously through you). Cheers from an East Coast guy who likes good Mexican food.

I'm interested in going with the intake that you have but will the fuel rail covers fit back on there, I see that you don't run yours on.
Not without some trimming.

It's highly likely the alternator. I wish it is not the harmonic balancer, because it's a PITA to fix. Been there done that. Good luck.

I had the mirror issue on my C5. JB Weld was my 'quick and dirty' solution :) ... No more pivoting of mirror, but it has lasted for over 10 years now.

It has 4 tiny ball and socket joints on the back. It just pull off.

Dayco belts are really good as well, and aren't too high.

Wasnt the harmonic balancer changed when the cam was done?
Cam was done years before I purchased the car.
Why did you give up on your A/C ? Couldn't find the leak or something else ?
It’s not a leak. It’s an electrical issue. All the AC parts have been replaced. I got tired of wasting money on it.

You should be able to do the balancer yourself. It is a little troublesome but do able for DIY.

Yes they do. If they don’t move, this probably happened before and someone took the easy way out and “fixed” it. Literally.
I've developed a oil leak in front of tourqe tube. Not oil sensor. Any ideas chris.

Nice fix on the mirror! I had a bad tensioner that took out the alternator and when I replaced the alternator it took care of the squeak for me.
But . . . wait . . . did I miss revised dyno results? That's been the big mystery for the last few months!
