Just for your information, "change" (currently translated as "New Princess, please") is a phrase used in Japanese nightclubs where you get lady companions to sit and drink with you and entertain you. When you are unhappy with the lady companion (when you are not happy with her looks or when you discover that she's unpleasant after some chatting), you say "change" and ask the club to get a new lady to accompany you. Should probably be translated as "next princess" or "another princess".

Is it just me or does season 3 feel really off so far? I can't explain it very well, but the jokes don't feel as properly set up or well explained anymore, and it feels like the show's really leaning into Japanese humor. Of course, that makes sense since it's an anime - they're not obligated to appeal to foreign audiences that much - but I just remember season 1 and 2's comedy bits being easier to understand or more... universal? I guess? I don't know, maybe the jokes don't translate very well into English. Or I probably just don't have enough sense of humor to understand the jokes now, but the first two episodes of this season have been very weird. Kazuma's whole desire of wanting to be a monk felt super unexplained or brushed over very quickly, and the first episode in general felt weirdly rushed? Idk. And this episode felt very off-tone in relation to what the show has defined itself as up till now. There's serious moments for all the characters, but Darkness felt unnecessarily serious this time, to the point where I thought she was a little bit out of character. Idk. The general tone and pacing have been weird, like there was a noticeably significant change in style or direction for the anime. Then there's the iconic running gags of the series (Kazuma being scum, Aqua being useless and selfish, Darkness being a clumsy M, Megumin being an edgy pyromaniac), but the usual routine of them pointing out each other's flaws in a goofy way is starting to feel the slightest bit stale. It's just the Boke and Tsukkomi routine over and over. I guess I'll just wait for more episodes to get a more clear view.

Agreed on the self preference, and the 1st episode dealt with kazumas PTSD with the aftermath of the movie, he wanted to be a monk because sylvie was literally haunting him from behind, and apparently being a monk gives inner peace and tranquility
Also it probably seems off-tone because there really was seriousness, and its pretty much character development
Its not exactly out of character since Darkness always did come off as an idiot, but she isnt as slow we think she is
While you even expect megumin in the past to have went templar instantly the moment the princess dissed her friends, except shes more calm and thoughtful now
overall cant wait for the next episode, because im pretty sure this episode just set up the entire arc with the princess

The reason why you’re feeling off imo is because this season will probably be a lot more serialized.
Like Kazuma said at the end of Season 1, it was one helluva tutorial. The situations were more random and we were being introduced to the main characters and world as well. Even Season 2 kept things mostly spaced out, the run-ins with the Demon King Generals and going to Alcanretia being short and sweet.
If Season 3 will follow Volumes 6 and 7 of the Light Novel, then this Season’s gonna be a whole storyline. Pushing the storyline may push out the usual humor, and that may alienate some people. At least with the movie Volume 5 was condensed into 2 hours. Here, I’m not sure how often we’ll see our heroes lose and fail comedically in epic proportions.
I imagine being able to watch the whole Season all the way through and listening to the English VAs do their thing would help the experience greatly. Until then, this IS only the 2nd episode, so Imma hold my judgment until the end.
You're not alone brother. The jokes feels toned down compared to first 2 seasons. I think it prolly has something to do with todays time where every people are sensitive af so they cant joke like last times, it definitely feels like a sfw ver. Also idk if they changed studio or something the art feels super different than the last 2 as well.
