I have "standing ovation" and it's a stunner. I was in love when I saw it.

Great, Standing Ovation is one of our favorites too. Have you come across the video that we posted on it yet?
If not, here's a link that might help you find out a little bit more about it: ua-cam.com/video/Nr8a0frdANw/v-deo.html.
Hopefully, when it, and the exciting new variegated selections become better known, they will be enjoyed by a lot more people.
Thanks for sharing and don't forget to keep us updated on your progress.

I have several cultivars already and they are great garden plants. I am hoping to see this one in my local nursery in the spring.

Yes, and as you've probably noted in the video, we are very fond of them too. Nice big, premium sized plants (like those in the video) are going to be in some of our partnering garden centers this coming year. Here's a link that will help you discover where they are all located: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/
Just be aware that not every place will be carrying this particular selection, so it would probably be wise to call ahead to check if it is going to be in stock.

    Does it flop in winter?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Рік тому +2

It is herbaceous, so it turns yellow and then brown in late Autumn early winter, and at that point David suggests giving it a trim to tidy up the old foliage. To help prevent "lodging" (which is what the experts call the "flopping" over you mention) it is good to grow these types of grasses on the "lean" side i.e. not in overly rich conditions!
Contrary to most of David's videos where he talks about improving the conditions by enriching the soil, adding fertilizer, watering etc. to get plenty of healthy lush growth, these plants are stiffer and more upright when they are grown a little "harder".
Obviously, its important to get newly planted ones started, established and weaned to their new positions by giving them this good culture, but once they are nicely established and get going, try not to grow them too rich or overfed. It's nice to have plenty of that delightfully colorful foliage, but overly rank growth tends to flop and lodge later on.

Finally, now that our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ are well stocked with lots of gorgeous plants, if you live in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region be sure to stop in and take a look…. Because that’s where you will discover all sorts of beautiful, tried and true and cutting edge, top performing selections.

Unfortunately we in Nevada we can not get that Ornamental Grass Variety because it is Invasive.
Only very few Varieties of Ornamental Grasses 🌾 can be aloud to be grown here.

It sounds like (perhaps) your folk haven't heard (yet) about the new Worryfree® Grasses!
      Fountain grasses (Pennisetums): ua-cam.com/video/1X1HzoGrrRE/v-deo.html

Sterling work performed by professors Tom Rainey and Wayne Hanna and their teams at a few of our universities at developing non-invasive selections.
Thanks to their vision, innovative breeding and selection work we can now plant and enjoy these highly valuable ornamentals in our gardens and not have to worry about them spreading into the landscape.
We've found that they provide an additional benefit too... in that because they don't produce seeds, the display lasts longer too, a point that we make in the one of our videos. If you click on the above links, they will take you to a couple of videos on this channel that explains more. Thanks for your comment.
