- Fall is a great time to make splits in preparation for the next Spring Nectar Flow. In this video, I will show you the way that I do it. These splits will produce queens of the perfect age for the flow and colonies that will be very productive by the time the flow starts
Chilton Bee Company sells nucs, mated queens, queen cells, honey, creamed honey, lip balm, lotion, soap, candles and wax melts

Garden Marker that I use to write on hive cards. The ink is very weather resistant and holds up to the elements for years:

A good video. Spoken well. Covered the topic really well too. Thank you.
Thank you for watching Tony
Thx so much. Love you videos. Over in Middle East Texas. Love this video. Have 45 hives but look to get to 100 plus next year. We are very similar temperature and flora I think. Thx again
Thank you for watching
I am going to do splits just like that. I have a couple multi top and bottom entrance double screen boards. I looked at yours from that supply company. I see they have entrances both font and back. Do you close up the back wing your on pallets. I run papers too and have about 2-3" like Bob Binnies. I am going to t o framers as I'm think of getting me a cab over Isuzu truck and get an ez lift. I'm a 66 year old retired guy by myself. But love bees. Second year and I graft my own as well as everything else. Gluten for punishment but hell I ain't taking this crap with time
When I die so. lol
I don't close any entrances. The bottom colony will just have a top entrance on the back
@@ChiltonBeeCompany ok that's what it looked like. Thanks for answering I know you're a busy guy. Someday when I'm over there in Alabama would love to stop by and chat a minute.
The entrance on the double screen board is the only thing you didn't mention. But your videos are really good because you take the time to try to cover everything y'all do. Thanks
Again.

Outstanding advice!!! The only thing I would add is keep posting videos, because this is the best way to manipulate honey bees.
Thank you for watching
Your channel going to grow quick good stuff
Thank you for watching
When you do your fall split you are using a double screen board correct? This separates the bottom box from the upper box that is the new split? Great video and good work Thank you!
That's correct
just found your channel . We love the idea of the double screen board split. Do you have that cut in the silver insulation so the bees can come up to the top feeder?
For some reason your comment has been hidden. Yes that is the reason for the holes. The long hole goes over the cap and ladder feeder when it is in a single box
Going to experiment with moves like this up here in Michigan.. doing it different be like the same results. Goldenrod on slow year is 60 pounds probably be double that this year with the wet summer. I'm setting med on top of the deep brood box excluder above that with two suppers . After goldenrod plan on splitting them with the double screen board. I'd do two nucs but I'm out of 4 framers. Reason I'm using a med because I just took bunch of splits.. I don't think I have time for them to draw and fill it .. I have med honey comb I can use
That will work. The double screen boards will definitely be a major benefit in your climate. In the Early Spring,I would set the med box with the split on top of a new deep. Once the flow starts, shake the bees down into the deep and replace the double screen board with an excluder. The brood in the med will emerge and will become the first super as normal
Do you raise your own queens that you’re dropping into your splits?
Yes. I do raise my own. I use ripe queen cells but I have ran out before and done some Walk Away Splits the very beginning of August. They turned out just fine
I appreciate you making this video and going through your process of doing summer splits. It’s been very helpful.
Absolutely. Thank you for watching
