    *Update:* While Père Lachaise staff refused to respond to the media, I'm glad to say the Louvre has offered me and Matthias a VIP visit next time we're in Paris ^___^

      It's Black Friday
      In addition to those VIP passes, but they should terminate those security guards' employment as well. They clearly need to be taught a lesson in respect for people. Nevertheless, I'm happy for you.

    Just want to mention as I've seen a few comments ragging on French people in general - that everyone else we spoke to was perfectly friendly, polite, and helpful, and we received many lovely, warming compliments - it was just the (ubiquitous) security guards who gave us shit. Just sayin'! x

    I regularly get stopped by security guards, have been escorted out of malls, searched by police, stopped by police, and generally annoyed to death by "authority figures" to the point where I have developed a genuine dislike of them. Yes I wear black clothing and leather and have more tattoos than most tattooists not to mention my face/head is tattooed so I'm a walking target, I get it. But it gets kinda annoying when you're own your own block walking back to your house and a cop stops to talk to you because of recent "suspicious persons" in the area. It's like holy hell I am literally 2 houses away from my house, shut the hell up. But yeah I have a Muslim friend and I hang out with him sometimes and people act like he's actively carrying a machine gun at all times. I swear I live in a state where you can openly carry a gun on you, he isn't, but they act like he's got more weapons than Rambo on him. So for whatever little it's worth, I can sympathize. BTW anyone else find it ironic the catacombs are closed? Why would you close a catacombs? To dust the skeletons? I've always wanted to see them but that's a lot of cash to go see skeletons.

      Your assumption that it was just one person that changed my mind is wrong. I have heard from friends and family visiting Paris that they have had similar experiences. Ever since I started to make plans to go. I have been told stories of how bad experiences were. Unfortunately alot of people have given the rest of us a bad name when it comes to cemeteries. On one hand, as a mortuary apprentice I can see why people filming in a cemetery would need to be stopped because SO many people make videos faking hauntings, telling fake stories about the deceased, etc and do real psychological damage to the families. not to mention the people messing with markers, leaving trash, being loud/inappropriate/etc. but on the other hand unless someone IS being shitty, there's no need to start going at them already. like I'm heavily pierced/tattooed, purple and black hair, and gothy and I ALWAYS follow proper etiquette in funeral homes and grave yards because that's my whole career but I was asked to leave my father in law's burial because they thought I was just being creepy, which was really upsetting.

      I totally see where you're coming from with why they wouldn't like people taking video, but if that were the case they would have a sign saying it wasn't allowed and would have stopped everyone which from the sound of things they didn't. :(

    • @AshIsAWolf
      @AshIsAWolf 7 років тому

      Alot don't have signs and expect it to just be common knowledge or would prefer to just correct it as it happens because seeing the sign could either deter potential clients or upset current mourners. Obviously the security could've handled it way better because she wast doing anything to warrant more than just "stop taking pictures".

      Hank.Thunderblade believe me, not only in Paris. I live in the south of France and foreigners get treated as bad (is not worse...). What bugs me about French people is that they expect every foreigner to speak french, but yet can't make a fucking sentence in english, and then MAKE FUN OF YOU FOR NOT SPEAKING FRENCH. I'm sorry but if you can't even understand a basic sentence in english maybe you're the one that should me made fun of...

      You are in THEIR country. They expect the respect of at least trying to speak their language instead of having them cater to you in English. I had several people refuse to speak to me in English. I explained my French was terrible but when I tried they were very kind and helpful. One person walked me to where I was going and another called a taxi for me. Americans are spoiled. It is our reputation in many countries.

    my boyfriend and i went to a dollar tree for a medicine my mom takes and its the only kind that helps with her chronic migrains, (my boyfriend and i look like punk kids) but we are not even disrespectful EVER. my boyfriend even held the door open for a much older lady. and while looking for it, found it, and the time we got to the register they actually refused to let us pay for my MOMS medication, and after like 8 minutes of being refused a police man searched us, practicly banned us from the store, and then tried to tell us they called for stealing, but once seeing we didnt take a single thing, it changed to their saftey was being threatened, and when i went back inside to buy my boyfriend a drink the lady told me it simply was because the way we both dressed. i want to make a video talking about it for the same reason you did.
    people truly think goths, punks, (some) skinheads, any subculture that has a strong family hold are cruel and violent and it needs to stop.

      I never had this happen to me at the dollar tree for looking goth but they did kick me out for not wearing a mask even though I was exempt from wearing one due to medical conditions, their policy (as well as every single other business) states that as long as you tell them that you are exempt, then you don't have to wear a mask. They refused to let me buy my stuff and said that I had to buy a mask there. And also I was at Walgreens and I said that I was exempt for medical reasons and the lady asked to see my card. What card??? She was so clueless and mean to me. She said to Remeber to bring my card next time but would not tell me what kind of magical card she was talking about. I was also kicked out of jewel Osco and I told them that I was exempt and then the guy grabbed my basket from me and told me to get out of the store and to go to any of the other jewelosco stores. I even contacted their parent company and was told that every jewel allows people with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask to be in the store without a mask, in fact that has happened to me soooo many times, it happened at barns and Nobel, it happened at the mall to

    As a frenchie wearing an alternative look, and I've been really into gothic culture too, I can assure you this kind of shitty attitude happens ALL THE TIME. I've not been allowed to see a lot of museums or to access café or restaurant because of my look. When I was at 'lycée' ( I think it's high school, right ? ), I was a bit more free but the administration didn't like my look and even if I was one of the best student at school they always were on me to take off my chains or my New Rocks boots. Now, I'm really softer, but when I wear a hat or when I've got black lipstick, I see it really makes people unconforatble at the movies or restaurants...
    Yeah, in France, you can't wear what you want. Shitty mentality.

      I think it's mostly in Paris ! It happens sometimes everywhere but, you know, there's this Parisian mentality of being dressed at "la mode". It's really a French, and more over, a Parisian pride to have styles considered "beautiful". I think it's really linked to this, but fortunately not all parisians and frenchs are like that ^^
      But I've noticed, in my experience, that in smaller cities people don't care about your look. It's strange cause I though it would be reversed, but now taht I'm in a big town I'm more embarrassed by people that when I was in a smaaaaaaaall city with only peasants. Surprising, right ?

      Au contraire c'est bien pire dans les plus petites villes car les gens sont beaucoup moins habitués à la diversité malheureusement ... enfin pour le style goth' en tout cas, parce qu'il faut bien avouer que c'est un peu déroutant, moi j'ai un style un peu original, sarouel, dreads et ecarteurs, et je sais que je suis déjà limite pour beaucoup de gens alors j'imagine même pas les goth

    Im from the US. and I went with my family to Universal Studios in Florida last year. They refused to let me in with my makeup on because as you were told at the museum. "people who mistake you for one of our actors. You have to take all your makeup off to come in." Only one security guard tried to stand up for me by saying her sister was part of the alternative scene as well. I had to go back to my hotel sobbing and taking off all my makeup just so I could go into the amusement park. which the night before they almost didn't let me in because my shirt said "blood, sex and rock n roll" and told me to take my shirt off because it was offensive. So I understand that completely 😩 it's the worst feeling ever.

      I worked at universal for a few years and this IS NOT ANY KIND OF RULE, THIS IS NOT AND HAS NEVER BEEN A RULE. The ONLY rules for apperence are as follows: shirts, pants/shorts must be worn at all times, in areas of the park where there is free water, shoes do not have to be worn by guests. I want to come here and express my support. Maybe it means something that I'm not goth. I am absolutely disgusted by people treating you this way, especially in an ART museum.
    I have no idea what you looked like that day, but I don't need to. I don't care if you were subtle or outlandish. It doesn't matter. Please know that there are plenty of people outside the goth community that support you.

    Not all people who look "scary" are bad people. My parents used to be part of a biker group, and a lot of those guys tend to look pretty scary, but most of them are total sweethearts. I remember that this one giant of a man used to play with my sister and I, chasing us around and other fun things that make little kids scream and run around. Someone that was not from our group came over and tried to take us away from him, because they apparently thought that he had stolen us, even after we told them that he was our friend and our parents were going to be upset if they took us away from him. It took my mom storming over, in her own biker get up and demanding to know what they were doing with her children, for them to finally let us go. Just the other day at work, I had an associate tell me that they were not going to get anywhere near a certain customer because he was a biker. I went up to the customer and asked if he needed anything, and he didn't but was really nice. The other associate freaked out because I had actually approached the guy, even though he saw the whole exchange and saw that nothing bad happened. Unfortunately people are stigmatized every day for being who they are and looking different from an areas norm.

      oh and to all my 'french folks' who simply love to remind the world that paris is not france so they can have their hands clean....PARIS IS FRANCE it is PART of it . deal with it. You think you are better in the north or in the south? no. no you are not . I have received as many dirty looks and comments as an alternative in paris that i have in the rest of france. You think Britanny is better? or Normandy? or Marseille? sure...yeah I mean i have folks on these comments offended because what Black Friday called out the rudeness of your country and you are offended that s the best you want to do ? throw it at other departements of your country? it is in your country that immigrants that are not french enough that get arrested its in your country that if you get attacked no ones barely gives a shit because if you are not white you probably deserve it or weird or whatnot. Suddenly you want to be all patriotic , well shit it sure shows a lot about your damn France how much you guys are loving and united when most of you are just fucking offended and throwing the ball in an other court.I was born and lived 12 years of my life there and now i lived 16 more in Canada , and why do you think so many want to move here? because even you cant stand the stupid conservative ignorant aggressive life that you promote. And this is how you folks react to so many hate ? by personally getting offended instead of seeing that this is a social issues...i can't fucking grow up. oh and Black Friday I am so so so so sorry for what you experienced .

      I totally agree. Anyway, I don't know how would've been if the had gone to another museum like musee d'Orsay... But yeah, in case of the Louvre, you've just explained very well. I visited that museum last summer and even though I had no problems, it was a very sad experience. Also most people were more attentive to the fact of taking selfies with every piece of art than really enoying and contemplating them... that seemed to me like art was something that you could actually consume (just like another product), and not and expression of culture, feelings... and art itself. Very disappointing.

      Yeah ure right, let me walk into a bank office with a fucking balaklava on because dont assume I am robbing the place. Let me walk into a childrens party looking like a clown, cuz Im jsut there for the lemonade. Let me walk into a business meeting in full goth makeup, who cares right?

    • @Aiken_Drum
      @Aiken_Drum 7 років тому +29

      +Aimtofflan - Apples and oranges. There are clear, well-understood expectations for dress at the events you listed, all of which have basic structure and rules for process and behavior, and you are specifically choosing your examples to violate exactly those expectations.
      - One _expects_ to be taken aside if wearing a mask to a bank.
      - One _expects_ to be treated as the entertainment when wearing a clown outfit at a party.
      - One _expects_ to lose their job if they show up in attire not appropriate for a business meeting.
      There are no expectations or guidelines for gothic makeup and clothing in a museum. There are expectations for painting yourself atomic pink and wearing a lime green string bikini. That is clearly miles outside the norm and will make people uncomfortable. Goths, however, are well-known, well-understood, generally pretty fashionable, and generally pretty well-behaved (mature goths, anyway). Black Friday might have expected some odd looks, as usual, but not to be flat-out turned away.
      With regards to the cemetery, I'm a little less sure. I think the cemetery, since they made the effort to post signs about dogs and such, should also have made a point of saying something along the lines of "respectful, non-distracting behavior and attire required" (or whatever) if they really mean to require people to show that level of respect for the dead. I can see their point if so, but without making it clear it just gets messy. Seems like it would be easier on both parties to make the ground rules clear up-front.

    • @Aimtofflan
      @Aimtofflan 7 років тому +1

      It is exactly the point. A museum is a place of culture and art. Showing up in halloween looking makeup and clothes(I dont personally care) in such a place, one must expect that problems might arise. Same as if you walk into a goth club dressed as someone outta Wolf of Wall Street. Everything has a time and place. If they really cared so much to see the museum, couldnt they dress down a bit and wear less makeup? =). Again, I am not personally against her looks, I just accept that you cant force society to change around you. Sometimes you will have to make adjustments.

    As an IT Manager with over 20 years experience in IT I can tell you with almost certainty that your Videos/Pictures are still retrievable. BUT AND THIS IS IMPORTANT. STOP Taking additional pictures videos as it will eventually write over what you deleted making it much harder to retrieve (nigh on impossible).
    In short and will try not to be too technical but when you delete something the operating system doesn't actually remove it...it tells the directory system to just start writing files over the space you deleted. So if you dont create additional videos/pictures you stand an almost certainty of getting those back.
    Hopefully you still have that memory card and have NOT taken additional stuff on it?

    I had one woman shit talk me when I was in France, 9th grade class trip and I didn't really look too flashy back then, I only had snake bites and my makeup routine was foundation, powder, mascara, done. some black pants with chains and other metal trinkets on them and black shirt and I was good to go. this woman, on our first day of the trip, in the fucking metro station started talking to me in French and I was so confused, I didn't understand shit. luckily my friend's mom who was our supervisor for the trip understood and she told me the woman had said something along the lines of "she'd be so pretty if she didn't ruin her looks with those piercings!"... so ye
    there was another woman in the line behind us when going to the Eiffel tower who also asked me about my piercings but she just asked if they hurt, she was quite nice. she was actually older than the woman at the metro station so that's kinda confusing, I thought the older generations were supposed to be more prejudiced but I guess not. otherwise many people gave me weird looks but they didn't say anything and most didn't look angry, more shocked or intrigued.

But generally someone who is going to commit an act of terror or try to harm people don't try to attract attention to themselves BEFORE they've committed that act. It's a bit counterproductive because it raises your risk of being caught before you complete your task.

    I brought flowers to give to some of the amazing graves there and had 2 left over which I decided to take with me.
    Some other people were doing simular things.
    When I left I was the only person who was pulled aside and demanded to know about the flowers. My friend spoke fluent French and the female gaurd refused to listen and started yelling at me and demanding I give her the flowers that I payed for.
    She made a huge scene and would not listen to anybody.
    So I just walked away and ignored her. She was so rude and horrible and I get what she may have been thinking. But even with someone telling her she refused to listen.
    So fucking rude.

She likes the way she looks and that shouldn't be a problem regardless of race or country or religious beliefs. For fucks sake everyone is human and shouldn't have to be given bullshit when they go somewhere. Why are people like this? It's really not that hard to overlook someone's style unless you have a dense view of the world. All I'm saying is being normal isn't always a good thing either.

      @CaitMcKi 7 років тому +6

      K first off you don't understand what racism is- a systematic level of oppression (educate yourself).
      The reason why goth culture, and the Native American *race* is not the same thing, is that while you may choose to identify as goth, you have the privilege of wiping off the makeup and taking off the clothes. Any oppression you face for it, you technically can escape, whether or not you choose to. This woman was discriminated against, but not for something that she couldn't remove, should she choose to do so. Native Americans cannot do that.
      Also, let's not even pretend that one act of discrimination against one woman of a particular culture is even comparable to an entire genocide. That's just silly.

    I've been kicked out of the cemetery in the UK where my grandparents were buried in because I was dressed in gothic clothing, and I do think that they tar EVERYONE in with a few assholes. I know the security guard at the cemetery I was kicked out of, told me they had had 'Weird kids in before who destroyed gravestones' and I think they assume we're ALL going to do this, or like, roll around on the gravestones or something. It's utterly ridiculous. -___-

      @-belue-6697 7 років тому +9

      Holyfiremolotov...HAHA! when you said they assumed us Goths will maybe "roll around on gravestones"...I pictured it in my mind. :-p...People (not everyone of course) but people are just weird about things they don't understand fully...I am a disabled Goth, so I get crap from many angles...I let allot of stuff go cause I figure I'm going to be me forever, so why not be myself & be happy with who I am & life...but when people say dumb stuff like: "can I use your can for a minute" or tell me at the grocery store "it must be convient to have a cart (walker) to carry groceries" (I told him that it would be even more convenient not to need a walker) or things about my looks like, "That's what I want to be for Halloween" or "Halloween is over" or when people turn around at a store, get wide eyed & back away (I kinda laugh at that, cause those are the people who NEED to back away & not hang out with me)...It is annoying though! Not everyone is like this though..."To every action, there is an equal & opposite reaction!"...But point is, it is annoying, saddening even that when someone doesn't understand to such a degree, that it turns to fear & to mask fear it turns to anger...I just don't understand why anger is more socially acceptable than just being honest that the root cause of anger is fear & misunderstanding...If you don't understand something you never experienced personally, it's OK to admit it & ask questions & learn something & grow as a human being & become a better person for it...No one knows everything & not everything outside of ourselves is a cause for fear...If we would admit we don't know everything about the world & try to learn & grow, we could just bypass all the disharmony & strife...It's not a simple process, but it's one that makes the world better, not worse. We are never going to totally see eye to eye always as a human race, but why do we have to make things so black & white sometimes?

    Good for you to speak out about these experiences, for over 20 years I have happily been goth and can remember all the times I have been belittled, yelled at, even spat on. One thing I am proud of is standing up for myself but at times it is disheartening to realise that as I get older another generation comes along and behaves in the exact same way toward me. I wanted to travel and visit places I have admired for years yet I let these experiences change that dream (I lost courage). Time to start dreaming again and not be afraid. This video has helped me realise this. Thankyou.

    Funny story. I went to the Louvre when I was about 19. I had black pants a black tank top with a silver dragon on it and a belt with a skull and crossbones belt buckle. Not as glamed out at Black Friday but you could tell I was goth. An eastern German family was literally terrified of me. Their children would not stop looking at me as if I was going to eat them. I didn't notice until I passed by the 12 year old looking daughter clutching to her mother who was also watching me. My dad explained that eastern Germans, especially from the countryside were still superstitious and probably thought I was an evil witch. I felt awful but there really wasnt anything I could do.
