- Here is another wonderful, romantic ballad by Frank Sinatra. “Softly, as I Leave You,” originally titled “Piano," composed by Tony De Vita with Italian lyrics by Giorgio Calabrese & English lyrics by Hal Shaper, was recorded by Frank Sinatra on July 17, 1964 for his Reprise album, Softly, as I Leave You, released in August of that year. Released as a single, it reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 & No. 4 on the Easy Listening charts. The song was arranged & conducted by Ernie Freeman.
Something about Mr Sinatra that's incredibly powerful!!!
Brilliant phrasing of this magnificent song. His voice was in top form in this recording.
I love Mr Blue eyes sweet Frank and his songs so R I P Frank
It's a song that brings the tears to my eyes.
Why
Thanks, catman, for posting Frank's superb rendition of "Softly, As I Leave You"! Matt Monro was the first to record the English version, which made it to #18 on Billboard's Hot 100 and (not surprisingly) #10 on the UK charts in May of 1961. Doris Day also included her version in between on her 1963 LP, "Love Him," and I was also very fond of We Five's warm version on their 1965 debut LP. The song took on more meaning for me when someone described it as being the words of a person dying of a terminal disease singing a heartfelt goodbye to their sleeping beloved spouse.
His confidence and beautiful singing voice is mesmerizing. Thank you.
It’s a rather endearing though incredibly sad song. I don’t think I’d want to listen to it very often as it seems rather sad to me
he has Chemistry
The radio stations played Elvis Presley’ s live version right after he died for about a month where stated that a dying man wrote this to his sleeping wife shortly before he died.
Frank’s version is better.
The very best version
Better than Matt Monroe version. Only Bobby darin version seconds
