Zero Mission has an artbook?? Ive never seen that varia suit art before! Zero Mission is one of my favorite games of all time along with being my favorite Metroid game, now I really wanna know more. Its crazy that not even metroid database or other fansites have any art from those books
Honestly, I don't think the difference between the original and Legendary power suits are just a matter of modernized hardware. The fact that Samus is capable of wearing the suit at all, given her distinctly non-Chozo proportions, says a lot. My personal theory? It was made specifically for Samus by Raven Beak. I mean, look at the Unknown Item statues, which hold the _most powerful upgrades_ -that aren't super missiles- _in the game._ Their design is similar to normal statues at first glance, but careful scrutiny shows they bear a lot of striking differences: narrower eyes, denser plating, sharper talons, and most obvious of all, _a far pointier beak._ And don't forget that the Legendary Power Suit that's required to use them is obtained from a magical test from a mural of a _war god._ And given we know for a fact that not only was Raven Beak present at Samus' infusion, but was also a DNA donor, it can be said beyond reasonable doubt that he had been to Zebes and was invested in Samus Aran's future endeavors. As for why the unknown items are incompatible? They're Mawkin-make, and the Thoha creators of Samus' original suit weren't a fan. (Alternatively, the Metroid manga has Mother Brain claim to have designed the original Power Suit in hopes of making Samus into a living weapon; it'd make sense to leave out the powerups made by the explicitly "hadar sen olmen" folks to prevent her from growing too strong to control. Not that it helped very much, but there was an attempt if that's the case.) Raven Beak expected that from them and left his own version on Zebes for Samus to one day wear. If that's all true, then suddenly his "you're my daughter lol" bullshit has some rationality behind it.
This Green-Blue issue is a really japanese thing. While I cannot say the exact reason they made differences of artwork and in-game sprite... for them, green is a sort of shade of blue, rather than an actual color (which is, technically, not wrong). Fusion and Zero Mission are absolutely timeless games. They will be enjoyed forever. Its amazing to see what was capable with such limitations.
I prefer the green visors and lights, except for the Gravity Suit.

I love the base power suit, just looks better than the Varia suit to me.
