Thank you for mentioning my LA Transit to Trails site, Cris! I hope it helps a few more realize they can get out into nature without a car. And thanks for sharing so much of your valuable experience with us; it's truly appreciated.
Same! It’s a nice little update and gives us the opportunity to hear what’s going on that may not make it our way as quickly. For instance I had no idea someone recently died at Whit. . I watch the news and never heard a thing. That’s nice to know because now if I go there I can pay respect to a fallen hiker/adventurist. I do like this format, it fits well :)
I did the Rim to Rim the same weekend as the 92-year-old man (Alfredo) and we crossed paths going opposite ways. I think I was struggling more than he was!
Great info HG, much appreciated. Question for you......ever consider hosting a day hike with your subscribers? You're a world of hiking knowledge for us relatively new hikers.
Damn that’s a good idea! Have a thing once a year where we all camp out for a night and hike! Could turn into a hiking reunion, share stories around the fire and see stunning views :)
Back when I used to guide I'd occasionally do group hikes. Good idea though maybe I can figure out something. Maybe hang a campground or something so it's not too disruptive. Will give it some thought.
Good stuff. I enjoy many hiking podcasts and videos and your Hiking News was a nice summary of what's going on in the wilderness. Thank you for taking the time to put that together.
Me too. I like the News video format, enjoyed this one, and sent it on to a friend. I enjoy everything about the way you do your videos and appreciate your integrity with regard to sponsorship.
Integrity before opportunity. Thank you for maintaining the same structure where you are never paid to say anything for any company. I appreciate that and I'm sure I'm not alone.
I got a lot out of this video format and others you have done. I live just west of the Appalachian Mountains and a month ago visited Yosemite for the first time over a week of day hikes and backpacking and loved it and plan to come back sometime. One day I felt like I was on another planet similar to the original Planet of the Apes movie
I had no idea there was a patreon, please share! Edit: I’m looking around but not seeing it 😢 if you add the link I will certainly join it because I use your videos as guides all the time. It’s important to share and give thanks. Thank you Cris for all the work and effort you put into your channel! Working two jobs while still making time for your son, you are a great Dad! I always appreciate your guides, easy to navigate trails and easy to navigate your site. Nothing is ever confusing which makes every trip pleasant, keep it up friend 🙂
Yes, regards altitude sickness. Rule number one assume it’s altitude sickness not something else. Rule number two do not forget rule number one. It’s amazing how many people continue onward even though they have the signs of early altitude sickness it’s completely preventable if you stop at that point and go down to 500 feet or more Things complicated are not eating any food and becoming dehydrated
REALLY ENJOYED this report; great info and smart commentary. Enjoy the link to other stories and info. Thanks for doing this-it very much feels like public service.🌿
Sponsorship video idea: Try doing interview segments with outfitters, trail guides and other companies that may recommend trip packages they are selling. Not sure what the rates would be, but a sponsored interview video for an outfitter in Alaska or Hawaii would be fun to watch
Props to you for taking g the steps that you’ve indicated in your vid. I recently got back from HI and did the Moanalua trail to the Hiku stairs. I used your recommendation for Footpath and it worked like a charm. Spot on and I enjoyed interacting with the interface. Easy and very good info
Contributed, because I rely so much on your website, and videos. Hiked Brown Mountain Dam yesterday (one of my favorites). Your directions saved me a mile hike on a boring road, plus there was much more access to parking. The other thing I appreciate is that if a hike is only for advanced hikers, or downright unsafe in certain conditions (Baldy in snowy or icy conditions, for example, or the Cactus to Clouds trail in summer) you make sure to let your viewers know. Many influencers and UA-camrs will tell you that a hike is difficult, but they make it look easy (because they are very advanced in their hiking skills), and leave the viewer with the impression “how difficult could it be, really?”
Ah thank you so much, and yea, when I first started doing guides, safety was the main concern. I wouldn't want to recommend or direct someone if it could get them into trouble. So I try to be sober and transparent about risks. Overall the idea is that the guides give you all the info you know to hike safely. Glad the guides have been helpful for you and again, a big big thank you.
Super stuff 👍 I don't live anywhere near there (!) bit I was very interested in hearing the news and updates. Also, LOVE your decision to avoid info-mercials... they are an embarrasment and we need to move on to something better. Thanks for your thoughtful work!
I’ve been in bumper to bumper traffic jams in the Smokey Mountains not much fun. I’m not a fan of navigating with just a phone or watch. I think a lot of people don’t know where to buy maps and they just download a route then follow the arrow. The field of view is too small on your phone.
Hyponatremia Dan didn’t eat enough food got low sodium ie low electrolytes and had severe condition ensue. On a trip I led a woman secretly was trying to lose weight for her wedding and ate no food no electrolytes either pure water. Had a severe case. We had to carry her out to a helicopter rescue.
Can you do a video on how to accurately digitally mark a trail that doesn't exist. Blazing a trail in a forest and having difficulty creating a digital map for use with Garmin devices to provide navigation
Slightly different thread from this vid, but I just bought the topo athletic Terraventure 4 WP. Have you tried them yet? I have the 3s which I bought on your recommendation, and am looking forward to using the 4 WPs on my next winter hike approaching in February. Always interested in your gear reviews. Cheers (from the UK).
Your hiking videos are informative and helpful. Thank you for all your good work. On the subject of timed entry enforced by parks, I think while it may help reduce traffic congestion and waiting time, it will make the park less accessible for folks who don't have easy access to internet. The assumption of the time entry is 1.everyone has easy access to internet and 2.everyone must use internet. The first assumption is not true, the second implies governmental coercion which is dangerous.
Not against freebies or cash for stuff you believe in. Not into disguised infomercials. I watched Hansen and Beckers misadventure and was appalled by it….hope it’s a cautionary tale for people about weather, terrain, endurance, and personal limits. The fact they got a permit is besides the point, the rangers weren’t hiking with them. How they used it was their responsibility. I unsubscribed from both their channels after watching it. Beckers illness was no joke.
@@christopherhaak9824 if you read all the comments on their videos their fanboys would heartily disagree with us. I hike solo a lot and am keenly aware of risks. It’s my ambition to never have to press the SOS. And the fact that Hansen is upset about his ticket when he was trying to, as you say, monetize the filming of the disaster is, er, epic as well. Be safe out there.
Thank you for mentioning my LA Transit to Trails site, Cris! I hope it helps a few more realize they can get out into nature without a car. And thanks for sharing so much of your valuable experience with us; it's truly appreciated.
This is different, I don’t think I have seen anyone do hiking news like this, please continue to do!
We’re grateful for the opportunity to hit some trails and help support the hiking community with you, Cris!
Nice, thank you! I like this news format video. I hope you make this a permanent series.
Same! It’s a nice little update and gives us the opportunity to hear what’s going on that may not make it our way as quickly. For instance I had no idea someone recently died at Whit. . Hi Chris, love your channel. Can you talk about evacuation Insurance such as the one offered by the American Alpine Club?
Yes will give it some thought, might have something similar coming up.

Yes, good suggestion, thank you.
I' have a Garmin messenger, Fenix 6 pro, and my phone available to use . Thanks for the reply

Yes, am going to do a review, I've got about 100 miles on them and I LOVE THEM - it's like what I wanted the Lone Peak 6 to be. Stay tuned...
@@Hikingguy look forward to it :-)
this is good

I don't see a problem with accepting sponsorships when it comes to products you actually use and believe in.
So sad about the sheep :(
I like this. Don’t really see this kind of hiking news/info reporting done in this format.
Not against freebies or cash for stuff you believe in. Not into disguised infomercials. Completely agree with you on the Becker thing. It was a completely preventable CF. Then, they tried to monetize it, which was even more disgusting.

After seeing Eric’s video on his ticket it is clearly abuse of their power and should have been handled a whole lot better.
My recommendation is to just get the divorce out of the way! 😂
ggg
Thanks!
Big thank you!!!!!!
