Thank you so much for doing this video. After watching I sent off my old working-when-it-feels-like-it p38 key on the Tuesday with next day delivery, received an email back from them Wednesday saying my new one was done and being dispatched and I received it Thursday. After reading the instructions, 10 seconds later I had a brand new perfectly working key. I can't believe my good fortune with this (previous repairs via Ebay have been lacklustre at best). I will be buying another one for sure. Cheers and Merry Christmas 🙂
It is interesting to see the potential for old electronics to becoming a real problem as time passes and spare parts get difficult. Your key man looks like he will be busy for years to come! 😬😃😃😃Richard.
It can be quite rewarding tuning in to P38 BECM electrics........ simple to work on allowing many reprogramming possibilities via kitchen table rebuilds..... disable security key codes........ disable engine security codes ..... via an old rovacom BECM module or similar 🙃😵💫 all info on line & parts to be found on *bay 👌 George can become a vehicle electrinics wizard 🧙♂️

It's better than paying JLR for a new P38 key, it cost me about £430 back in 2022! I was completely without a working key so I couldn't send one off to the p38 key copy guys unfortunately!
@@L663 I just have got in just in time then! I had to wait about a month for them to get it in stock and sync it to the car... I was putting the EKA code into the door every day while I waited! I'll get a second key made at some point
I don't believe P38 keys have a transponder, at least not like you find in newer cars that have keyless entry. If there was a transponder you wouldn't have press the lock and unlock buttons to transmit a signal to the car. Bit of a pain having one key for the ignition and one for the driver's door. If you ever need to enter the EKA you will need that door key. I sold a P38 to a fellow without a working fob. Even before he picked up the car he asked me to send him the VIN and two close up photos of the key blade. He emailed these to Les Edwards at Classic Rides and two weeks later had a working fob delivered to British Columbia.
There is talk of some ability to charge the coin cell battery while the key is in the ignition however I bet the car would start if only the key was used without the fob section. I should have tried that when I had my fob apart.
That is the guy (also called CRNW) that I used when I bought a 2001 P38 without an ignition barrel / lock. Sent a second hand one with key fob, door handle barrel, BECM and engine ECU off to him and he re-wafered the handle lock to match the ignition key and matched them all up with the BECM and made a second key. All worked like new when I got it back.
I had a slightly worse problem in that I bought a pretty wrecked (interiorwise) 2001 P38 Bordeaux off eBay and it had no ignition lock (Stolen / recovered?). New locks are a waste of time and money so I bought a s/h steering column with fey fob (£80) and removed the barrel. I then removed the drivers door handle, separated out the lock and sent that with the ignition barrel, engine ECU and BECM off to a firm in Wales called CRNW. YT forbids a link but easily seen on Google. They re-wafered the door lock to suit the s/h key fob (which was in excellent condition) and made a new key fob (same as yours). They also matched the keys to the BECM and turned the immobiliser off in the engine ECU at my request. Got it all back and it all works fine. I still have the original 'valet key' (found under a pile of cr*p) which I can use to lock the glove box but which is otherwise of no use. I have no shares in the firm just reporting a very good service which means I now have the one LR original flip out fob for all functions and a second fixed copy.

That bit with the eyebrows at the end made my day. Simon would make a great supervillian: get the Bond people on the phone for the next movie.
They already have, Johnny English! (Rowan Atkinson).

Another great video and very timely, as I need to sort out the keys for my P38 and probably change the ignition barrel as it sometimes jams.
My advice would be do this sooner rather than later - we left ours till it would not work anymore - then we had to change the whole steering rack !!
I definitely need to get that done, thank you!
Hi Simon. Where did you publish the instructions? Cheers

Worked first time, I’m never that lucky 😀
I was apprehensive ! but other than the pain of paying out money it was a painless exercise ! So much better having a key that works !
Good evening simon 💥👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

I did some reading on this last night and apparently post 1998 cars did have some sort of transponder....
