  • PLEASE NOTE: Any collect of firewood from State Forest DOES REQUIRE A PERMIT and must only be collected from designated wood collection areas. If you would like to get a permit for one of the collection areas, please see the below link or contact via email landadministration@fcnsw.com.au if you have any questions.
    fpos.fcnsw.com.au/Main.aspx
I found out this fact well after uploading our video and would like to do the correct thing by advising others. I have always thought State Forests allowed the collection of dead wood/fuel but apparently not - you need a permit.
THIS VIDEO: An awesome getaway to a free camp close to Sydney, we enjoy good food and some 4WD action with our van Mildred. Come with us as we challenge ourselves on the tracks within Watagan & Onley State Forests, with a few curly situations to master - doing what we love!

Glad you guys are safe and got through, and I know hindsight is 20/20, but never under estimate the use of the maxtrax on the roof or the firewood on the front of the van to build the track up to help level the car or van.

@@christinebassett7025 hi Christine, the wash away was the actual issue, not the ruts. Nothing could fill that void, so I think the path we chose in the end was the right one. The tree close to the road was the other issue. Hard to capture on film the true scenario.

Yep we are only just down the road and have had many fun adventures there, past side steps haven’t like it though, there was one track in particular that the boys enjoy wallowing in the mud, our 100 series Landcruiser was a beast for 4wding. 🤣

Hello Justin, the issue was actually the wash away and that was our main concern, no amount of firewood or max tracks could fill that void. Unfortunately the video doesn't show the true composition of what was our path. At the end of the day, you only tackle tracks like this if you are truly into a bit of chance and adventure.

We bought a Kombi camper van last year. We have been away in it a few times but we’re in our sixties & I’m afraid it comes with its disadvantages. Like crawling backwards out of the bed when you have a bad back & also quick trips to the loo in the dark… not good. We had a Kombi back in the 70’s but I’m afraid the body’s is not what it use to be, ha ha. But anyway we will make the most of it. Safe travels to you… cheers

@@glendaeidintas8766 Kombi’s are so cool, you are doing well. Our bed is east/west so one of us has to crawl over the other during the night, but so far we are managing in our mid 50’s. Making the bed can be a little work out but very satisfying when it’s done.
The loo & shower would be what I’d miss and it allows us to go where there is no one else which is what we love. Would there be room to build a portable cassette loo into the Kombi, I’ve seen it done in a Troopy.?
We always camped in a tent and one day we popped into a caravan place in Raymond Terrace NSW, on our way to Hawks Nest with our tent, and ended up buying our off-road van that had been traded in. The best part was that it was half price and only 3 years old, our van called Mildred is now 10 years and going strong. We feel very fortunate to have what we have.
Thanks for watching and stopping by. We have loads of past experiences to watch if you have been enjoying our videos.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I always thought it was ok in a State Park but it was confirmed that you do need a permit.
