I watch a lot of these kinds of videos, but this is one of the best examples I've seen of true scratch building. So many videos claim to be of a scratch build, but when you start watching they're heavily using 3D printers. Excellent work! I'm off to watch part 2 now :-)
Did you miss the part where he used a whole load of laser cut MDF pieces that seemed to fit his sketches perfectly? Anything you build without using a model kit is a 'scratch build', some people just use bespoke pieces rather than trying to find the perfect piece of junk
@@CutTransformGlue your welcome brother. You have great creativity to think about uses for ordinary objects. When you pulled out the tape dispenser i was on my seat waiting to see how you would use it :)
I am in the eighth grade but I want to build my first robot. Thanks for this video. Other videos use 3D printers but I can't afford all that stuff. This video is an easy way to build my robot
Yes please! I would love to watch the build videos for those models, if they exist that is. I love kit (junk) bashing and your finished models look as good as really high priced kits from overseas, maybe even better!! The paint and weathering alone are top-notch!
Do you know I am now your biggest fan you are wonderful dude I love robots and the way you made it inspired me and now I will make the best I can out of trash so thanks 👍👍🌹
Nice. I love watching these videos. I’ve got to get into this. My wife already thinks that I hoard things. Wait till she sees all the plastic crap I’ve started to keep!! 😂 I think the key will be to get some of those boxes. Are they fishing tackle boxes 😀🕺🏻🎥🏖🇦🇺
That's awesome :D If you start at junkbashing/scratchbuilding make sure to send me photos of your creations, maybe hit me on instagram! I love to make people inspired since I started myself the very same way! I'm a hoarder of plastic shapes and pieces, but those plastic boxes can make things organized so it doesn't look too bad :))
Cut Transform Glue I think that will be the key. If I actually get the stuff that is roughly organised (read mostly shoved in the garage, but I know where it is) onto shelves, and I then handed either boxes or containers for my different “parts”, then I’ll be much more on the way. I might even look ‘organised!?!’ 😂
Cut Transform Glue thanks for the offer. I’ll keep you posted. I’m an aspiring Aussie Filmmaker with a major interest in creating sci-fi using the old old school techniques of ‘models’, ‘miniature scenes’ and maybe even really old, built a spaceship set piece and get volunteers to physically shake it from the outside during the turbulent parts!...of space travel 😀🕺🏻🎥🏖🇦🇺
Hi bravo for this piece of art ! i just wander how you make all those axis and joints to rotate freely like this ? Any comments should be appreciated ! Thank you. Greeting from France. laurent Deckers
Awesome! very inspiring! i'm in a big trouble here, i can't find online or tutorials about 360º joints, for making feet or arms or heads rotate, i don't want to use ball joints
Thank you! I have close to none experience in moveable joints so I avoid them most of the time, but I guess you should consider using ball joints since the are very often used in the stop motion industry.. Is there any specific reason to avoid ball joints?
If you've ever built a Gundam model they actually handle this nicely, the couple a joint limited to one axis to another and that achieves essentially 360 degrees of movement. If you haven't built a Gundam before you can buy kits for about $20-$30 and maybe see what I mean for yourself.
Most of the time, yes! Sometimes I get the whole build idea from an specific plastic piece... But for the sniper spaceship it was different. I had only the concept of a sniper spaceship and figured it out on the sketching... Thanks for that amazing question!
Awesome work, I love building like this too. I do have a question. That small grindstone machine you have there, where did you buy it? It would be perfect for my own model building.
That little disc sander is a project I did myself! There's a video of the procces here on the chanel, you should check that out and maybe try to make one yourself. The laser cut files are availiable for free :)
Yeaaah. I love it! Some pieces where included between other projects, to make better use of the MDF sheet... I also save all I can, nothing is completely unusable!
That's a great idea that has actually been in the back of my mind! Maybe not with random pieces, so I might develop kind of a "basic kit".. Well, if this works out, you'll be hearing about it here! Thank you so much, stay safe!
Great question! First I found the vertical mould line from the container, and using that as a guide, I did one side by hand and copied that line with masking tape to the other side. I also drew a perpendicular line on the top.. If correct, these three would meet. Thanks again!
It's a big one from a local brand, not sure what you mean by "type", but I would say it's just like any other, except it's really big... thanks for your comment = )
Hi! I use mostly CA glue, most of the times i add some baking soda to serve as gusset. When I need more strength than usual I go with fast curing epoxy glue. Thank you for the question = )
In this particular build I didn't had that problem, but i feel you.. Sometimes I put screws, sometimes I use CA glue with baking soda... even epoxy glue may be needed!

Thank you! To keep the axis and joints moveable, I sometimes try to make it pressure fit.. or maybe I'll use some nuts and bolts, it really depends!

Hi from Iowa u. s. When you sketch your ideas, do you consider the bits you have? Or do you just flow and deal with it after? Great work btw.

where did u get the parts from?

Would you sell those random laser cut mdf shapes as a starter kit? Would be great for someone who wants to get started building models

Thank you!
WhIch laser cutter do you use?
I use one from a public maker space, don't know the details sorry
What Paint do you use a n.v d what type of Glues
Acrylic water based paints and CA glue :D
what kind of laser cutter do you have?
I don't own one, but I have access to it on a maker space :)
How did you measure the curve on the container?
Great question! First I found the vertical mould line from the container, and using that as a guide, I did one side by hand and copied that line with masking tape to the other side. I also drew a perpendicular line on the top.. If correct, these three would meet. Thanks again!

CA glue, mostly! And if I need more structure, I use epoxy. Thank you for your question!

yes, the glue that you see me using most of the time in every video, that's CA Glue @@jmortonsalt

🤔 - Interesting...
Any body else thinking ED 209.
Making CNC parts isn't Trash though. This is more making models from scratch. Trash Bashing is using trash only. You are a talented builder though.
Music is too loud
Ir loose interest when the MDF comes out. Too easy and precise
I thought it was going to be electronic but meh, it was great anyway
Wish I had the hability and tools for that! Thank you for your comment

Go for it! You don't really need a 3D printer for that, it certainly helps, but you can make without it! Thanks a lot buddy!
