You can get solenoid valves that are “normally open” or “normally closed” in the unpowered state, and also motorized ball valves that only use power while opening or closing. Regardless of the valve you buy make sure it is rated for LPG.
This is diy down right. These tutorials on van builds specifically are in my opinion the very best bar none. I have researched for half a decade but no one has broke it down so eloquently. You make these complicated concepts easy to understand. You even shared the plans in color for free. Thank you
One note about about checking for gas leaks is I think it is a good idea to do it often. Takes seconds if there is good access. Travel vibrations loosen a lot of stuff.
Thank you!!! I have been all over the net & instruction manuals trying to figure this out. Whew 😰. Subscribed! This is the best. Can’t wait to binge watch. Truly. Thank you
Yew! First View! I've been studying all your videos as i'm thinking about building out a transit in the near future. Thanks for the comprehensive videos!
Your videos are very well done! Used a few of your videos already in the process of converting my Ram Promaster 3500. Thanks for all the effort you put into these!
I just gotta say, your videos are the best. You've made stuff so much more accessible for people without experience!! I now feel like I understand how it's possible for me to become a van lifer. Thank you so so much!!!
Thank you so much for all the videos you've done !! They are really informative and cover every topic in depth. It is really useful for someone like me who is currently planning everything for my T3 Syncro conversion :) Thanks again, and congrats !!
Well done mate. Great concise explanation, exactly what I was looking for. Other vanlife UA-camrs should take note, we are here for information not lifestyle vlogs.
Hi Moser and thanks for great video. I’ve lived full time in my van since beginning of 2019 and I do use propane. I’m not however handy with wood working projects. I’ve tried making a box for my 20 lb tank 2 times and both times it was a disaster. I have a brain injury that makes very simple math very difficult for me. I want to be safe as well as provide a perch for my kitty, Toby, and your build is perfect. I’m writing to request the build directions so that I can have a replica of your beautiful propane box built in my 2019 Ram Promaster. I can pay for this info if you’re willing to share. Thanks again for a really brilliant build and box. MaryAnn & Toby
I was hoping you would talk about your propane gauge. I’ve been told repeatedly that they are notoriously inaccurate. Are you happy with yours, and if so, which one is it? Thx.
You need both as they have different functions. CO detectors protect you in the case of incomplete combustion in your appliances, but do not detect propane. And propane detectors do not detect CO.
Another fantastic and informative video! How long does your propane tank usually last do you find? I'm curious especially about the consumption of a propane heater
Hi Sam, could you share a few thoughts on why you went half rubber and half copper? The copper seems a lot more intimidating, so I'd love to do all rubber. Are there drawbacks for that? Thanks! (Eric, Promaster 159 high roof, propex HS2000 and Dometic R31 range.)
I’m trying to find rubber hose for part of my install. Where did you source yours from? I’m having a hard time finding rubber hose that is ok for interior use.
Amazing video. Would you recommend securely storing a 5 gal propane tank in a vented rooftop cargo box? Would you be concerned about static electricity? Any input would be helpful. Thank you.
Great videos. Question...If i want to run just propane oven stove what size tank do you think I’ll need? I was thinking about doing undermount tank with a electric 4g water heater for my shower and sink and a wabasto gas heater. Is Undermount just for stove/oven overkill? Do you think a 4 gallon electric water heater is a good option? I have 3x100 amp hour lithium batteries
Hey Moser, Is it safe to substitute the propane rated rubber tubing for the copper? I kind of want to do this because it’s easier and requires less tools, but the info I’m finding seems to point to copper being the standard. I have an external propane box at the rear of the van, with the oven at the front so the line will be no more than 10’. Thank you for the video! For whatever reason there seems to be less information on gas lines than other van topics.
You need to have good ventilation to run a propane system in a camper, its not just the gas fumes burning propane also emits alot of water vapor you're walls will be dripping. Installing a propane system is not a problem if you don't care as much about stealth and have a bit of money sitting around. In my case I spend alot of nights in city neighborhoods and used alot of my savings buying/converting the Van so this won't happen anytime soon.
what do you use as your stovetop? most of the stovetop that I'm finding are 110v for the ignition. I know I can use them with just a match, but wondering if there's a better option?
Where might I find a link to the propane stove top that you purchased😮 it's kind of like Meg Ryan in that movie I want what he's having😂❤😂 I was shown in meditation after creating the exterior box to lay it on its side after having marked the bottom Circle foundation and the top collar wrap the propane tank in plastic and then the spray foam the bottom which would be the side of the cabinet halfway let it dry a little bit and then lay the tank into the phone and allow it to finish curing and that way it protects it from temperatures helps hold it into place and still leaves a fair amount of airspace and GAP within the cabinet to work around it😮 my challenge is I'm old I'm tired I've got already too many things to do and I sure wish you were close enough to make me a propane cabinet for my Sprinter which I plan on putting just at the edge of the slider door😮 help help😂❤ would you and the missus like to come visit Montana❤😂
For the type he has, it vents to the outside underneath the vehicle and out to the side, so there is no concern about output unless your vent is located near a door (usually passenger or sliding door, but sometimes rear doors). Your output should vent around the middle of the vehicle so that there is no risk of gasses coming back inside the van. Using portable propane heaters like "Mr. Buddy" heaters must be used with ventilation for the reasons you're concerned about. Open a window and/or turn on an exhaust fan when using portable units.
I would not mount a propane bottle directly behind the cab.... the worst accident I ever saw was a camper with LP tanks directly behind the cab... The bottles ruptured and sent flames 300 feet into the air but only spread to the side about 6 feet... that was ~ 50 years ago I can still picture the charred remains in that camper... ... I feel that had those tanks been externally mounted on the rear of the camper that couple might have survived...
Good info. However, if you want to install your system in accordance with ISO standards (mandatory for licensure in Europe) then check out the “Greg Virgoe” channel - he has a video where he goes through the ISO standard point by point. Will also give you the safest installation.
In hindsight and after rewatching it I can see that your presentation is technically good. It's just extremely dry. What it lacks is personality, levity, maybe some humor. Take a look at "Humble Road" for a comparison.
I think the "dryness" of it all is beneficial. There's less room for error when explaining things that are new to someone, or even dangerous, and it makes for a great reference to come back to.
Young man, I kid, you not, you are seriously organized and knowledgeable. Good for you.

Awesome video! Less filler nonsense and all info that’s helpful for doing this diy.
Really clear explanations, no mumbo jumbo! Really great man
This was so unbelievably helpful. Thank you so so much.
Dude. I wish every youtuber was like you. This was so incredibly informative and concise, thanks so much! You got an instant subscriber right here
I just put a 20 lbs tank in my van and started using it. No "system." Just a tank and hose. It's been working fine for years.
I'm a huge fan of your video's Moser! Thanks for all your help.
Thank you!!! I have been all over the net & instruction manuals trying to figure this out. Whew 😰. Subscribed! This is the best. Can’t wait to binge watch. Truly. Thank you
This is a fantastic video! Not just an excellent wealth of info, but it’s also an amazing source for instructions!
Thanks Sam, great series of videos for van conversions - you are an excellent tutor - such a nice young man.

Great video full of very useful information.
It looks like your propane locker door/opening doesn’t have a gasket to seal it.
Outstanding work. Yet more questions answered. Thanks again.
Superb - very helpful - thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Super informative, thank you for sharing
Fantastic! Thorough and concise. Thanks!

Thanks again, and congrats !!
jack-of-all-trades. thumbs up.
Very solid video. Thank you. Great resource!
Can someone tell me what those latches on the door are called or where I can order some? They look really nice. Thanks!
I’m wondering the same thing! Did you ever find out?
All your videos are great sir! Very helpfull! Thank you for sharing it all
Love your vidz buddy! keep it up, shooting to get a van within the next year or two...cannot wait. Researching like crazy.
Well done mate. Great concise explanation, exactly what I was looking for. Other vanlife UA-camrs should take note, we are here for information not lifestyle vlogs.
which model proper heater do you use, and thoughts on it??? Thanks so much for sharing insight!
Great presentation, can you elaborate on what size the copper tubing is for the plumbing: 3/8", 1/2", something different? Thanks
Excellent video, thanks for the great clear info
Wow! Thank you for your job! Great stuff!
Great series - I hope you're making something on it; there's a lot of work here!

Hi. What stove top did you use and did you like it? DId it perform well? Thanks for making the videos.
great video! Could you use a carbon monoxide detector instead of a propane detector?
You need both as they have different functions. CO detectors protect you in the case of incomplete combustion in your appliances, but do not detect propane. And propane detectors do not detect CO.

Great video, very helpful content. Would you mind including links to the type of gas hose and propane detector. Thank you!
Great job! Do you have a diagram of this like your water system ?
Hi Sam, could you share a few thoughts on why you went half rubber and half copper? The copper seems a lot more intimidating, so I'd love to do all rubber. Are there drawbacks for that? Thanks! (Eric, Promaster 159 high roof, propex HS2000 and Dometic R31 range.)
I'd like to see how others made their connections especially if anyone has installed a solenoid valve. Thanks.
Great video. Thanks
I’m trying to find rubber hose for part of my install. Where did you source yours from? I’m having a hard time finding rubber hose that is ok for interior use.
Did you find a source? I'm hoping to just use a hose.
Great video as always! Which gas regulator did you end up buying?
Amazing video. Would you recommend securely storing a 5 gal propane tank in a vented rooftop cargo box? Would you be concerned about static electricity? Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

Great video! What 2-burner stove did you get?
Hi I'm wondering how much propane ur heater uses eg number of cold days per 20 lb tank. Thanks
Nice stuff
Do you know of any gasoline powered stoves? I know you mentioned there were some available at the end of the video.
Do you think 1 pound cylinders are a good option if LP is only for cooking quick meals every few days? Is the connection much more complicated?
Great info! keep it coming!

It’ll work just fine. It’s what I use in my camp trailer. Just get a propane detector and mount it down by the floor.
Where to locate the locker? Is at the back of the van ok?
You need to have good ventilation to run a propane system in a camper, its not just the gas fumes burning propane also emits alot of water vapor you're walls will be dripping. you'll want to look for a "piezo igniter"
Dude I love you so much
Can you have the thank inside the van ??
Which two-burner stove did you get?
Do you have a link for the propane furnace you're using?
For rv, should I use pipe dope vs pipe ptfe?

Hey there! I can't offer coming up to Montana to help but here is the link to the stove top: amzn.to/4e4srqb
@@MoserMakes thanks dude
Were you able to figure out what size the thread is for the propane fitting on the Propex 2000?
You didn't show where or how you branched off the propane for the propex. Any chance you could answer?
Are carbon monoxide or water vapor output from propane heaters a concern?
For the type he has, it vents to the outside underneath the vehicle and out to the side, so there is no concern about output unless your vent is located near a door (usually passenger or sliding door, but sometimes rear doors). Nice but not sure your comments re an all electric system stack up
I would not mount a propane bottle directly behind the cab.... the worst accident I ever saw was a camper with LP tanks directly behind the cab... Not sure about the US, but up here propane has to legally be outside of the vehicle...

Poor presentation. Too much watching someone sit there motionless and talk.
