Yeah that whole field is criminally underpaid. As a level 1 apprentice I was already making more per hour than my mom who's a union care aid. She gets way better hours n stuff so she still makes more, but still though that's kinda crazy. They shouldn't have to do 60 hour work weeks to make a living wage.

As someone who worked at Bed Bath and Beyond you can tell when a company is going bankrupt. I quit when my department head told me i had to use the old navy bathroom because they couldn't get any cleaning materials.
The private equity thing is what happened to UK water companies after privatization American businesses bought with huge loans put it on the companies books, never upgraded infrastructure and just toke all profit out in dividends
Minus the bankruptcy, betting on either being allowed to increase water bills as much as possible or waiting for a gov bailout. (Please just declare bankruptcy and get given to the gov for free please please please)
The "dividends" were to pay back interest on the debt that was taken on to be used for investment FYI, and that's regulated by OFWAT, so what you said isn't quite accurate. Not to say they didn't fuck it, but it's not as obviously nefarious and ridiculous as just taking on debt to buy a company and leaving them with it and then taking all the profit and leaving them.

@@primary2630 because when you sell out your country's assets resources to multinational foreign capital, in the Western world at least, that's seen as an acceptable thing to do. It's called neoliberalism, you already knew this. Also, to know that its the same conservative party that tells everyone it's the most nationalist and patriotic, is the same conservative party that did all this privatisation of OUR (the people that live and pay taxes here) stuff, is actually funny in a joker-mode kinda way.

I genuinely believe that the private equity shit needs to be illegal. It is such a bad practice that has massive negative effects on society as a whole. It is in society’s best interest to not allow it.
Using the company's value you are buying to get a loan to buy the company is called a leveraged buy out. It's stupid and almost always fails. It's like getting a mortgage based on the value of the property.
Private equity is bad because it transfers the debt into the company purchased. This causes major lay offs and some people even lose their pensions. Turns company into shit.

Dawg the description of private equity is pretty disingenuous. If all they did was buy companies and siphon off money from them, that would not be profitable. They have to actually grow and exit the business to actually make money. It logically doesn't make sense to buy a company at value and siphon off whatever cash they have; you'd literally lose money. Toys R Us is a good example of a bad PE investment
