This takes me back. Grew up in East Oakland and as a teenager would ride the AC Transit buses across the Bay Bridge (BART too if I felt like paying the higher fare), and the Metro with the old Boeing cars. Did Christmas shopping in Union Square. Would take the bus to and from Giants games at Candlestick when the A's were on the road. San Francisco and Oakland were (and are) like two different planets. Haven't been back home in 15 years - too expensive to live there!
I was 14 years old in 1980 and yes, San Francisco was definitely a wonderful place to grow up. I literally never ventured out to the East Bay until I was 30. Now it's a cesspool of druggies from elsewhere, and I'm not talking about just the homeless people. It use to be a world class destination but now tourists are disgusted. Sad.
Very nice filming! I think I remember back in May there was one Boeing LRV sitting at the large MUNI maintnaince Facility. I foret which one. The one that you walk around it to get to the station.
Oh, I remember the old diesel buses like the one at 0:38! Those were super noisy mf'ers!! Then there were the strange ones that replaced them, where the windows didn't open... They were in use for only a few years, soon followed by the first articulated buses - I remember when those first appeared. Nostalgia!
Detroit 8V71 1969 i went to diesel school my final test 1980 to put it togheter and star apply for muni never got hire as a mechanic i became an operator I drove them buses ,im on the LRV now siemmes night mare
@gmcbuses I can just about guarantee that as long as I stay here I will NEVER have a car. The marginal benefit simply cannot outweigh the exorbitant marginal cost over riding Muni. Absolutely no need. And I really like taking Muni anyway! Driving would just stress me out.
I was a 9-year-old girl. Woolworth was still around. "Charlie's Angels," finished its 4th season. "The Dukes of Hazzard," finished its 2nd season. Team USA boycotted the Summer Olympics in Moscow. Wow! What a time!
My favorite bus lines in order: 3-Jackson, 4-Sutter, 2-Clement, and 1-California. Worst: 38-Geary, and any bus along Mission St.
The 37-Corbett was/is a nice ride up to the Twin Peaks area.
San Francisco looks so much cleaner 30 years ago...
It really wasn’t
My City, the way I'll always remember it.
It's so sad what's happened to it. :(
Nice footage of the Boeings! Among my favorite Muni vehicles. They helped to define my childhood.

Crime rates are unilaterally lower now than any point in the 80s and 90s.
Me too... 💯

Those were the days. I was still very young but remember them fondly.
Damn I've never seen the pccs in Revenue Service besides the f
I like the look of that old MUNI color scheme on the vehicles, especially the PCCs.
I’ve never saw this before. I wasn’t born in 1980.

San Francisco public still wonderful to me lol
I remember those old Metro streetcars like that K shown at West Portal. Those were really cool!

Those 1969 GM diesels used to scare me when I was little, there was something primal about that roar!

Some of those buses are still on the road today.
Great video. If I had a car there, I would not drive it on those hills.

@gmcbuses You don't need a car here. People who drive in San Francisco are totally silly and delusional. Most of them really don't need to do that.
Boeing LRV: Worst Streetcar Ever.
Those LRVs had no AC or just were not working.
I like them better than the new Siemens ones
