This is my favorite ELO song ever!!!!🤘🏻🔥🎧👍
EASY. 😁🥂
The whole song is awesome, but Bev Bevan's drumming is absolutely killer! He keeps the song moving and the repeated fills (with or without flange) make clear he's center stage! By far the best drumming I've heard on any ELO record...
The drums never get any credit in this song! They are oustanding at the end!!!
Musically ELO and Jeff Lynne are the best ever!
This song is why they are called ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA.
Bev Bevan's finest performance. He really tore it up!
When you hear this, you understand why John Lennon referred to ELO as "Son of Beatles".
Elite! ELO
Jeff Lynne = musical genius.
'turn back, turn back' - the music is reversable but time is not!'
Actually, played backward it's "The music is reversible but time is not...turn back, turn back, turn back..."
This is.....BY FAR....a legendary track!
I am so happy Harri you picked this track from ELO, a song even ELO fans usually forget about. This masterpiece came out in 1975 off the Face the Music album. Electric Light Orchestra one of the most creative bands of the 70's.
Brother, you need to hang out with a different group of ELO fans, because all the ones I know hold this track in the highest regard.
@@Cosmo-Kramer This song was the lead in for CBS Sports Spectacular back in late 70's, lots of non ELO fans got turned on to the tune because of this, well the Guitar part!!
@@Cosmo-Kramer Notice further down, you already noted that! Kudos, you most be an old timer like me.
@@palermotrapani9067 Just old enough to have listened to this album over and over again, when my older sister bought it new off the shelf. :)
@@Cosmo-Kramer Good deal, I am in upper 50's now so ELO was one of those many "Best bands" of the 70's!, so many, not enough hands to count them all.
If you love the funk, listen to ELO's Last Train To London
Been waiting in anticipation for this one too Harri! Part of this song was used as the intro for "CBS Sports Spectacular", back in the '70s 💕
Michael, I put a link for that in my comment. I'm hoping y'all can see it. Let me know if it's there for you, please.
ELO's Prelude and Twilight...just another reminder...
Fire on high is a classic and the album Face The Music 🎵🎶 is a most buy record.
The strings on this record (in fact the entire album) are fantastic. Brilliant piece of music.
Another great '70's band dabblings into progressive rock. Nice reaction.
Applause, applause, applause!!! ELO thank you so much!! :-)
Note: this was the theme song to the. CBS Sports Spectacular, a competitor to Wide World of Sports, in the 70s.
WMYK..(K-94) a local 1980s radio rock station here in Virginia USA played this every night at midnight "at the start of a new broadcast day!!
Remember those days well!! Elizabeth City.
Moyack. The MYK. N.C. based. All I need now are some Birdies and a Brew Threw.
I remember that, sad to say.
One of their finest indeed and I also wanna point out the drums by Bev Bevan. His famous fills are just great! Another tune worth checking out is Dreaming Of 4000. A B-side for the single Don't Bring Me Down forced me to investigate their earlier music. I had become a fan because Out Of The Blue was my introduction to the band. It was in fact the first album I ever bought (on tape at the time) Dreaming Of 4000 was featured on 'On The Third Day', 1973, An album with a collection of wonderful songs as well. The best known is Showdown.
This song scares the hell out of me.
ABC's Wide World of Sports. Can still see that poor skier. lol The Agony of Defeat.
I love sitting on the front porch watching a thunderstorm roll in while listening to this on my headphones. I can't explain why it works together so well but it just does.
Add a couple bong hits
Fire on high is a masterpiece, please don’t underestimate the power in the drumming of Bev Beavan, that was top drawer, now please do concerto for a rainy day pleeeeeeeeeeeeease🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Bev's drumming on this kinda reminds me of Keith Moon's drumming. Just a hair late, like he's reacting to the music, not being the rhythm keeper...just like Keith.
My wife told me not to play that song because it scares the kids. Scary but genius.
CBS sports spectacular
ya let's start our album out with this ! Back when bands took chances
Thank you, Harri! ELO’s early work has not been covered much by reactors. I enjoyed your take on this intense song from my youth.
In the 70s, I saw ELO live 3 times, or as I later learned: live twice and air-cello’d once. 🤣 They certainly were great performers! Fire On High was a trip seeing it live and in person. They conveyed so much emotion with their music. Funny how you said this went in a direction you were not expecting at all. That is what all of us thought on their first few albums!
In case you're wondering what the beginning lyrics say... it says... The music is reversible, but time is not. Turn back, turn back, turn back
I used to play this so loud the walls would shake.
Totally unique piece of EPIC MUSIC ! So glad you reviewed it!
Great reaction video , I remember when I was a child in the 70's and some parts of this song was used on the show Wide Wide World of Sports " ( Muhammad Ali fights , Evel Knievel jump's and more )
You know what’s really funny? The “Cosmo Kramer” reference goes right over Harri’s head! 😂😂😂😂
I missed a trick 😀
@@HarriBestReactions Lol...Harri, what Dave's talking about is that my UA-cam handle, "Cosmo Kramer", is the name of a character from the '90s hit American TV sitcom, Seinfeld.
@@HarriBestReactions - well I’m not sure that even if you were told you would get the cultural reference. Pretty funny though!
@@Cosmo-Kramer 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This instrumental was way ahead of it's time.
Don't forget what the music scene was like when this came out 1975. Disco was ramping up and the pop country was fading. The Billboard Top 100 for 1975 was dominated by bands like Captain & Tannille, Neil Sadaka, Barry Manilow, Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton John, John Denver, Eagles, Gladys Night & the Pips, Doobie Brothers, and the Carpenters.
You really need to listen to this classic cranked up to the max and a couple of bongs always fits in nicely 😎
I was evicted from my apartment for playing this song VERY LOUD. This and Eldorado .
@johnlong9534 Sorry to hear that and unfortunately that will happen if you live in an apartment,I guess headphones are your answer but still volume cranked.👍
CBS used this over their promos for just about every sport on their calendar (NASCAR, horse racing, tennis, etc.) for years.
The beginning of this song will freak you out a bit but once they get into it it's typical ELO...also no words to this and it's still superb! Makes a great intro to the rest of the album and does highlight the strings (guitar and orchestral) plus the vocal notes but especially the drums.
The album: Out of the blue is their masterpiece
I bought this album back in the day--for this song.
This is such a GREAT track...head phones on...get lost in it...let it roll over you like a wave.
Amazing fact....
This song was used by NFL Films for their highlight videos....long time ago!!
This was my introduction to ELO back in 1975!!!
My second ELO song was their interpretation of Roll Over Beethoven and I was HOOKED!!
If its E.L.O. Harri then my bias will always say that it is great and this is FIRE. Thank you for taking the time to react Sir. Paul 👍😊
This is a good 👍instrumental by ELO. their other instrumental is called THE WHALE . That is excellent 👌
First Movement (Jumping Biz) is another instrumental.
"Poker" is a song on that same ELO album with a much harder edge to it, different again from what you've come to expect from them. Try it!
+1 - Poker always been one of my ELO favs.
I love, "Poker", and you fellas will be glad to hear it is on my list of ELO songs I'll be sponsoring, albeit a bit down the road. So if you can be patient, I can guarantee you Harri will be reacting to it. (Barring it being blocked, or something, of course.) Cheers.
Flip of Confusion.
You can hear bits and pieces of other songs in this composition. I heard some "Evil Woman" and "Where did She Go".
The best thing ELO ever recorded
Hi Harri! Sorry I'm late to the party! So glad to see you listening to "Fire On High! If you would like to take another ELO instrumental for a spin, try "Daybreaker" from the "On The Third Day" album. It's (to me) a joyous gotta dance around the room song and I think you'd enjoy it. Peace, Love and Chicken Grease!
I remember spinning this song backwards on my turntable to hear the backward masking on that tune
This whole album was FIRE! My favorite ELO album and song. This was the theme music to CBS Sports Spectacular show with Phyllis George back then. Deservedly!
Bruv,i like your reactions the most.
You are a genuine music lover who isn't restricted to one genre.
I too cannot imagine a world without music.
Keep up that authentic, genuine wonder and love for our common language, the WORLD language: music.
“The music is reversible, time is not. Turn back! Turn back! Turn back! Turn back!” On the Face The Music album, if you placed the needle at this spot on the record and played it backwards, you’d hear that message. It was a warning to turn back…as the needle would soon fall off the record. (It was the first track and thereby the last song closest to the records edge physically)
You are right it's not satanic like people thought it was that is what it says backwards. Thank for letting people know I knew but many people don't know this. I've bought this album about 5 times I need to have it and it's a masterpiece ❤❤❤❤😮
You are quite right, that guitar is funky as July days are long.
No Harri it's a great instrumental jam no words needed
Music is reversible but time is not, turn back, turn back, turn back !!!!
That drummer!!!!!
Yes! Bev Bevan was one of the best drummers in all of Rock! VERY underrated.
This song is in my top 15 easily. (Favorite songs of all time.)**
Musical Excellence. 🎼
Fire in High used to be the theme song of CNN sports in the United States
This is the tune they used for the Olympics show every week ... The agony of defeat .....
No, that was ABC's Wide World of Sports, and is a common misremembrance. The song was used a rival Saturday program called, CBS Sports Spectacular.
Reminds you of the Dickens Christmas Carol
Harri - This is not a melody only song. You have to get a vinyl version and spin the beginning backwards. Can't remember all the vocal part but it ends in "Turn back, turn back turn back".
Backwards it says “The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back.”
ELO's Roll Over Beethoven (long version!) is a must....it's a pretty kick a$$ version.
I love Rollover Beethoven!!!
Harri, it's definitely must
React.🙏👍🤞
50 thumbs up
The beginning of the song needs to be played backwards on a turntable. This was done on purpose so that people would buy the album. The hidden message played in reverse says " You can turn back a record, but you can't turn back time. Go Back Go Back Go Back!"
That intro is backwards . It says , " Music can be turned back . Time cannot ... Turn back , turn back ...
Fire on High. Pluto was transitting in Sidereal Vitho in the 70s. Althought it was a time of prosperity, the Virgin behooves on us to take a look at our environment more srriously (the term virgin forest comes from Virgo). People from sedentary countries like Indonesia, practises crop roation that includes forest burning which causes a haxy environment in Singapore.
The virgin is hilding fire in one of her hands. Philosophy of Environment was at its peak in the 70s.
Their are lyrics. Fire on High at the end by the choir...
If Jeff Lynne hadn’t started ELO he would have been one of the most prolific music producers of all time. I’m glad he decided to unleash ELO on the world though. Jeff is such a talented person, thx Harri.
Did you forget original member Roy Wood?
Dear Harri! Please, react to Shine a Little Love, from their album Discovery. No one reacts to it! And it is so fun!! Regards from Chile!
If you listen to "Mr. Blue Sky", you should listen to it as part of the ENTIRE "Concerto for a Rainy Day", of which it's a part.
"Big Wheels, "Standin' in the Rain", and "Summer and Lightning" are the other three songs in the concerto. They really go together.
Their whole song book is terrific Jeff Lynn and the harmonise are incredible
Definitely unique and thrilling! Love it 💓. You must also do Can't Get It Out Of My Head from the same album. One of their best.
This song got plenty of air play on radio at the time it came out. It didn't hurt that it was selected as the intro song for the CBS Sports Spectacular show from 1976 to 1978.
Ethelyn, check out my comment, I included a link to a clip from that show!
"The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back. Turn back.
Your reaction to Fire on High reminded me of the first time I listened to it: head phones on and turned up to 11. It's mesmerizing. Might I suggest "One Summer Dream" from the same album. Great reaction as usual, Harri.
One Summer Dream is awesome.
Tho it's an instrumental its still a favorite of mine
Backwards the opening said The Music Is Reversible but time is not...Turn Back ..Turn Back..TURN BACK!
The NFL used it for years.
My sister's favorite ELO track!
Harri! Listen to “Shangri-La” ELO
Yes, Harri!!! Great song!
The joy of a flanged drum fill! Honestly, though. Why on earth would you feel the need to put vocals over the top of it. It's great just as it is.
Well harri it is sure different than what i was expecting. 😳😳 but i got use to it after awhile.👍
Same as me 😀 I wasnt sure where it was going at first
Harri, I had a feeling this track would resonate with you! Not sure what kind of guitars Jeff Lynne was playing, I just read in the liner notes: Jeff Lynne -- guitars. So he must've played both acoustic and electric. And yes, this instrumental was so popular when it came out in '75, that CBS used it for their weekly TV sports highlight show called, "CBS Sports Spectacular". The show aired every Saturday and the ELO track was used in their opening and advertisements. Here is a rare clip of it.

The link worked perfectly Cosmo! Thanks! 😁
@@michaelnorman3393 Excellent! And kudos to your memory! Most folks misremember it as the theme song for ABC's, "Wide World of Sports", the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" program.
Thanks for posting, what a blast from the past. Watched CBS Sports Spectacular every week.
Great choice! @Cosmo Kramer
@@Zofer-1920 Thanks! It's an essential ELO track.
ELO the best ever Musically!!!
The Edited single omits the beginning. It was the Flip of Sweet Talkin' Women.
Jeff Lynne was doing Backwards Masking and this album was the start of that!
If you're old enough to remember this was the intro to CBS Sports Saturday back in the 70's. Also my 1st concert.
Yes, Dave Mac, that's correct! Go to my main comment, as I've posted a link there to a clip from the show with the music!
When I was in college, radio stations played this, including the weird intro.
The beginning is reminiscent of the Beatles, “Revolution #9”! I have heard this before. Not sure if it was played on the radio. In any case, it’s great! “Do Ya” want to react to another ELO song? 😂. I just realized that I heard part of this on one of Elton John’s albums….didn’t I? I’m very confused right now! Someone help!! 🤷🏻♀️. Another great shirt Harri!!
Hahahha The shirt is Dedicated to you!
Debbie, I tried, "Do Ya", but it was blocked. I'll have to figure out a way around that before I'm done.
@Debbie Chang if I'm not mistaken, the Elton John song you may be referring to is "Funeral for a Friend." Usually paired with "Love lies Bleeding." From the great "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album.
@@cometogether999 Is it the same music?
@@debbiechang5781 no, but it has some similarities. It's really just a guess on my part. You should look it up on UA-cam, because even if it isn't what you're thinking of, it's an epic song.
In case you are wondering the backwards speaking at the beginning is saying "The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back ! Turn Back !" The Beatles used this effect in several of their songs.
During the late 1970s, the very popular American TV sports program, "ABC's Wide World of Sports" had the guitar section you raved about as it's theme song, played before commercial breaks so you heard it several times during the show.
It was actually their rival show, "CBS Sports Spectacular", that used the track. I posted a link to a clip from the show in my main comment.
A 50-Piece orchestra and chorus led by the late Louis Clark Sr. Is the main thing on this.
The music is reversible, but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back
This song was used as backing track in a promo for a sports show from the 80's-90's ( " Sportscenter " ) . I could remember the music, but had no idea what the song or group was, it took me a week or better of insane searching, but I found it! Aaaaand I was completely freaked out by the intro! If you play the intro really loudly on a home stereo with your lights out.... the neighbors will call the cops on you!
You're thinking of the '70s show, CBS Sports Spectacular. Check out my comment, as I included a clip of the show with the music!
People keep crediting CBS sports, but I always watched ABC and distinctly recall the guitar part used as an intro for its sports program
It's a common misremembrance. But I posted a link to the CBS Sports Spectacular show using the music in my main comment, so check it out.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Howard Cosells show on Sunday afternoons on ABC used ELO music as well, then. Because they were credited every week. Different song, i guess.
its funny, i listened to this album completely thru so many times that when this song was over.i was automatically expecting the begining of "waterfall".now i gotta go listen to it.hopefully i can stop before i get to "one summer dream". which is also unbelievably beautiful.
Beginning reminds of theater operas more phantom of the Opera. Should be played at Halloween. Unnerving intro
👂
Bev Bevan on drums brings it home!
You like 🎸 check out Classical Gas it sounds very similar progressions as this with out all the extra crescendo's would like your opinion
This song doesn't need lyrics.
