    That chess take is so real. So many hardcore chess players become elitists when it really isn’t that deep. Being good at a game doesn’t automatically make you smarter, it makes you good at that game.

    • @Benw8888
      @Benw8888 5 місяців тому +15

      Well chess is better than the vast majority of other games at teaching certain things (like developing patience in kids, expanding the ability to do casework and keep track of many potential futures in your head, etc.), but after a certain point you've already exhausted those benefits and would be better served moving on to other things like math competitions etc.

    • @MAJ0ROCEL0T
      @MAJ0ROCEL0T 5 місяців тому +8

      @@Benw8888Yeah I was going to say I think it's excellent learning for kids during formative years but honestly, the same could be said for any turn based RPG, it's just that Chess is so simple and straightforward the chances of a kid extracting said benefits is higher than playing something like Baldurs Gate.
      If anything, it's always about your mindset in the game. Like if you go into Chess with the idea of just running a strat that is consistent to raise your rank then you won't get much out of it, just like if you boot up BG3 and cheese everything rather than taking your time to really strategize and be efficient.
      Games, like everything else in life, have benefits when used the right way and in moderation.

      I don't you watch any chess players, as most don't think like that. They just think they're good at chess. But yeah, beyond 1500 it probably doesn't help too much with memory and other things.

      IMO, the skills and requirements for the career are not what makes it difficult, it’s the intense deadlines and expectations along with being overworked because projects are consistently understaffed. So an accounting firm that is more laidback sounds interesting, if it even exists.

    Bro, lotta people talking about how bad their degrees are. Please people, POST SECONDARY DEGREES ARE WORH A TON!!! Do not be scared by changing job markets into thinking that a degree is not a massive asset. A CS or soft ENG degree is a massive benefit to employability in the relevant fields ( and even a decent benefit in non-relevant ones ). Post secondary is not a waste of time unless you do not plan to utilise it.

    The issues with those majors isn't that they are bad (mostly). The issue with those majors is that they have a low ROI, which makes them bad investments. If college only cost 10k for a degree, those degrees wouldn't be such a bad ROI. But an Art History degree will cost you 100k and leave you in crippling debt and without a way to pay off that debt in any quick way.
