Both of those that you mention. It’s basically 8x heavier empty (compared to a pound)…but it has wheels so it’s more convenient. The pole handle as well as the wheel mechanism does take up a little bit of space if you’re much north of say 44 long it could get tight in the shoulders when you go to zip.
What a great looking bag! Airlines are getting out of control with their baggage fees too. Some bumped up their price for each way to like $40 that's $80 round trip which is crazy. Definitley need this bag to save money and time.
@@theocdtraveler thanks! i'm considering getting a garment duffle, there are mnay but i want one with wheels, unfortunately only wool and oak is offering one with wheels... this one from MG seems nice, but i have some small doubts about the "Vegan leather" it just smells like marketing BS to me, it's most likely just PU leather...
@@chinaman1 haha! I try. Of you check it out let me know what you think. I thought it was coming to be take tacky and it wasn’t. Best case you save $200…worse case you send it back. Good luck and thanks for your question!
How does this stack up against the Stackers garment duffle bag, yes it has less pockets but it’s leather and costs 50 less. Also could you fit this under an airport seat ? (Not that I’m going to try):/
I mean they’re in the same area for the most part. I think I’d be hesitant to buy a leather bag for 150 bucks. Can’t be that great. But they’re similar and with the Moderne Elite on sale for 199 plus another 15 % off with code OCD the price is close. to your point though really no pockets on the stacker and that shoe compartment for me is a game changer. I think I can say with pure confidence. This will not fit under an airplane seat comfortably.!
The lightning is great but so is the material 😅! I was expecting 1990's pleather but the knocked it out of the park with this material. Easy to clean up and you don't have to worry about water damage....people with think it's leather.
have you seen the Wool and Oak, Nova large duffle bag with wheels and hide away handle. The Wool Oak Nova large is 48 L volume. both the modern gentlemen travel duffel and duffel with wheels are 45 L volume. The Wool and Oak is expensive but it's sharp. Curious if you have seen this, thoughts of ease of use if how it works, or have done a review? @theocdtraveler
I've seen their bags but they won't even return my inquiries...which is weird because i have about 50k views on Garment Duffels. The Nova is really nice looking but at $400 for Nylon and $500+ for leather...it's just a lot. I can't imagine shelling that out. The other thing that I felt Moderne Gentleman did really well was that shoe compartment. I hated putting my shoes in the main compartment with all my clothes in the Halfday. My fear is it's the same with Wool & Oak. I always have at least 1 pair if not 3 when I travel. I'll keep trying to get them to send me a bag though!
@@theocdtraveler Wool and Oak Nova large: their shoes go in a compartment too and when bag is all zipped up you can still access the shoes. but their shoe compartment does not look as big as modern gentlemen. Looks like modern gentleman bag that their shoes compartment is big and tall (like you can put dress boots in it). is shoe compartment big enough to put dress boots and pair of regular shoes? same here I like to take extra 2 pairs of shoes and then the ones Im wearing. ive seen other reviews about customer service is so so while other reviews said bags are well made. I think I'm leaning towards modern gentleman, I just don't know between the travel carry or the duffle with wheels/handle...
@@andrewmeek6741 too weird. I just watched Wool & Oak's Nova large video and I can't find anything about shoes. That said, here's what I'd say. In the original MG bag, the shoe compartment is huge. I think you can easy do two stack pairs or a pair of boots. In the wheeled Moderne Elite, it's a lighter tighter because of the frame element with the handle mechanism...but I fit this Veja's in there just fine and once they're in there's plenty of room. Not having wheels is tough if you're taking this through an airport without a suitcase to stack it on. Doable...just not pleasant depending on how much you pack. MG has been open with me about the original zippers not being great but they've improved. In the Moderne Elite they are better, but because of shipping you'll want to work them through a couple times...but they are improving their shipping quality. As you heard in the video...i was nervous about the fake leather but it really surprised me...so far I'm impressed. Sorry for making this so long!
Jill stole my thunder…I agree with her points. The problem they’re solving is with non wheeled garment duffels…those are tough to lug around an airport. It really depends on what problem you’re trying to solve. This is a great way to pack a jacket or blazer as they’re notoriously tough for me to pack.

Another great review. Is there any reason not to get the one with wheels? Increased weight, any loss of packing space, etc. Thanks!!!

I flew one “budget” airline that charged $75, each way! The bag will pay for itself!!
@@theocdtraveler It is such a money grab on the checked bag fees. AIrlines made $7 billion in 2023 alone!
@@GregNowacki insanity!
any idea how this compares against the one from Wool and Oak?
They look very similar but the Moderne Gentleman is clearly waaaay cheaper and has a much better, dedicated shoe compartment.

Exactly! I’m still waiting for Wool & Oak to invite me to collab
