I have just come back from five wonderful days in Scotland. I have been to Scotland many times and even served there in the Royal Navy. I've spent virtually all that time in Fife and Edinburgh (the most beautiful city on earth IMO). This time we drove from the West Midlands in England to Inverness with an overnight stop in Fort William. The drive from Fort William to Inverness was the most incredible experience. Glencoe was stunning, l was awestruck with its beauty. The drive along Loch Ness was equally amazing. I morally had to vote against independence exactly because of the proposed citizenship policy. Copied from Quebec, and defended by many nats online as part of the trendy theory "civic nationalism", they were saying only to be automatic from birthplace or present living there. While there was a provision to apply for descent citizenship, never to any enquiry or meeting question would they say it would be unrefusable. That includes me directly asking Salmond it on his last campaign phone-in. The policy office at Leith told me "any discretionary elements" would be decided in the statebuilding after a Yes vote, which meant it could be refusable. SNP minister Alex Neil in a public meeting defended that "the reason why its not a free for all" was in case of "undesirables", which obviously could mean the poor. The real reason was that part of the nat support base is local-minded and anti-outsider, with the outsider attitude including towards our close diaspora, like emigrants' offspring. So, hypocritically when economic emigration was a frequently made argument for independence, return by the emigrants' families was not seen as popular to those racist voters. The Yes campaign and other SNP campaigns always left that out and played it down. As it was not thought a popular issue by the media either, it dangerously got hardly any media notice that this policy was happening. Obviously I am such a returner. I lodged EU petition 1448 2014, which cited that human rights article 8, family life, as part of EU law, will oblige the EU to disown shun and sanction Scotland as a pariah racist state and have no dealings with us, unless our parental descent citizenship is unrefusable. I must have impacted successfully as the Yes movement has lost its long term momentum feeling and high handedness that it kept in the first years after losing. For the policy actually has been fixed now. As recently as 27 Jul 2023, when new leader Humza Yusaf brought out a new citizenship policy. It does now include parental descent in automatic, so I could now vote Yes. But this is far too late for the actual indyref, which remains a taint on our history.
It is called "Bonnie Scotland" for so many very good reasons. My maternal grandmother was Scottish. We migrated from the UK to Australia in 1962 and on my fourth trip back to the UK in 1996, I finally went to Scotland (also to Wales, where my heritage is through my maternal grandfather, for the first time). After staying the night in the Lake District, I headed further north, got off the motorway too soon and drove through Glasgow on a Saturday around lunchtime (it was an Old Firm Derby day, so not the best decision I ever made). As I stopped at Loch Lomond for lunch, then drove through Glen Coe in a storm in the dark and finally found a B&B to stay the night, I increasingly felt that I was really at home. I also cried, many times (seeing Ben Nevis, at Urquhart Castle, meeting my relatives, visiting St Andrews, seeing Edinburgh Castle and crossing the border back into England). Perhaps one day I can visit again and add to the memories of truly being at home.
And then a Red Squirrel pops its head around a tree, wagging its tail and making wee grumbling noises. I’ve walked thousands of miles on the long distance paths here in Scotland and it never ceases to amaze and thrill me.
If the Highlands makes you emotional best take tissues if you ever make it to the Western isles that will have you howling, strange and wonderful place, great vid thanks for sharing, just love the roads and scenery up there and its only an hour and a half from me, love it. Good luck with the list.
I've been visiting Scotland for a very long time and just returned home two weeks ago. Every Time I clear Customs and walk outside of Edinburgh Airport it feels like Home. The Highlands? They will get inside your heart. Clicked onto your video because of the title but mostly "Emotional". After all these years it still is for me too.
...oh, so sweet, Eleanor - your excitement and tears... and I know what you're talking about... I discovered Scotland some 30 years ago, and I fell in love with the country so deeply, that I eventually moved there - its my homeland now... 💖
I am lucky to call Skye my home. I always feel emotional when returning from trips down south. Scotland touches your soul and once it has you in its grasp..............
It gets everyone every time. Special place. I did my first solo trip two years ago after coming with others for over 10 years and now I have to go once every season. I can’t stay away. Solo trips are just so special
moved from Holland to Scotland 5 years ago. Traveled a lot (India Australia many countries in Europe). Scotland made me cry many times as well and still does. This LAND. No words to express it, although I am a writer. Thanks for sharing your love for this amazing place. Grtz from Anstruther. Annemarie

Welcome to Scotland! I hope your time here is safe fun and enjoyable. There are a lot of reasonable mountains to walk up but pick your day and the rewards are breathtaking.
Thank you so much Richard. It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. Climbed Ben Nevis whilst there too it was really rewarding and stunning views 😊

Ciao Eleanora! Lovely upload. Totally inspiring. You have a totally awesome shot at 06:09. I sincerely hope you have a perfect time in Scotland. Hope the weather gets better for you. You so deserve this. Keep up the brilliant content. Arrivederci, Rafael
Aw thank you Rafael! 😊 I kept stopping constantly because everywhere I drove I wanted to take it in and grab some shots. The camera I had doesn’t do it justice I don’t think it was sooo gorgeous! Hope you’re having a lovely day ❤️
I am lucky enough to live only a few hundred yards from the ‘awesome view at 6.09’. That’s the spot I launch my kayak when the weather is perfect for it and I loved seeing her reaction.
I'm from Scotland and there are new paths being built where I am. The Crieff - Muthill cycle path is a three mile path that will soon link the two places. It uses a farm track, a new path using the fenced off edge of a field that grows crops, and stretches of a minor road. Together with the Crieff - Comrie path (7 miles) and the Loch Earn Railway Path this will create about 25 miles of an almost car free cycle path, linking Muthill to Lochearnhead From Lochearnhead you can the get onto the path of the former Oban - Callander Railway, 24 miles long. Thats a total of about 50 miles of almost car free cycle path! I'm mentioning this because not all visitors to Scotland will have heard of it. Do pay it a visit.😁
Ceud Mìle Fàilte! Very nice video. I don’t normally watch ‘talking head’ videos, but you definitely kept me interested to the end. You showed very well the ‘otherness’ of Scotland with your choices of scenery and music. Haste ye back!

I just came across your channel while scrolling through and seeing you are in Scotland my Scotland 😆 I had to give it watch. Really hope you enjoy your time here and have a good explore around there's so much stunning places to go. I hope you have a great experience while you're in Scotland.
I’m a Glaswegian and proud of my city for all its achievements but I have to say that Galloway is my favourite region of Scotland and Ayr has a special place in my heart. Edinburgh? Nice castle
Hiya! It never ceases to amaze me the reaction of visitors to Scotland and how emotional some can get. I am born, bred and live in Scotland and have travelled a fair bit around my beautiful country; particularly spending a lot of time in the Highlands / Glencoe etc., but I have only seen a (very) tiny fraction of what this stunning land has to offer. While I do appreciate and understand the outstanding natural beauty of my country, I feel that I sometimes can take it for granted and could see (and do) so much more. I hope you have an amazing time here and continue to come back over and over again - I have a feeling you will. :o) Take care and happy, safe travels!!
Thank you for your lovely comment 😊 agree you have the most beautiful country I’ve ever visited. Without a doubt going back again for longer next time. Will say as well you guys are the most friendly and welcoming people ever! Always felt at home there 😊❤️
My first time up here took me 15hours from the south coast to Ullapool. I struggled, had a few short stops. I then moved and been here nearly 3yrs, then moved again back down to Perthshire but drive a truck everyday back to Inverness, lovely drive up along the A9. It's lovely scenery here but I do miss the weather of the south coast. Head for the Cairngorms, Aviemore, Killiecrankie, The Hermitage. But if you'd like to see Stag then the route from Inverness to Ullapool is a must in the evening, plus the mountains and snow is lovely. For beaches which are the best, cleanest and most peaceful in the UK then right up the West coast and along the top.
Makes me happy to see people come and enjoy the place so much. I'm very lucky that I drive all over Scotland with work, so places like Glencoe etc are a regular thing for me. Still though I can get some weird kinda emotional feeling at times. I'm not sure if it's pride or a spiritual thing for the land. Haste ye back!!!

Literally worked at black spout 2 weeks ago. Clearing the debris from the walls holding it together. There was a tree with a memorial plaque for someone who had died and we cleaned it up and left it for the family. Love working and living in this country

I visited Loch Oich, 18 years ago, after my dad died. He took my mum & I there in 1970, when I was 10. We stayed in a little caravan at a campsite on one side of the Loch, - crossing the Loch by a little motorboat to a provisions cabin on the opposite bank for food. I was 46 then on my 2nd visit, & when I discovered that both the campsite, & the log cabin were both still there doing business, 36 years later, - with both my mum & dad gone, & nothing left but my childhood memories of our trip together, - I sat down on the bank where we had once moored our little boat, & sobbed my heart out.. There is something magical, transcending, & therapeutic about the wild untamed moors, lochs & mountains that are timeless. For me, Scotland & the Highlands are as close as I will ever get to living in Twin Peaks, my spiritual home. If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend. If you have, you'll know precisely what I mean..
Great video and awesome production skills, that was really cool to watch. I live quite close to Loch Lomond and have visited it multiple times and camped on the shores a couple of times, so yes, it is a very special place. Haste ye back 🙂
It is beautiful here. The highlands and western isles however are breathtaking. I know the drive from Scotland to Somerset well but it's not one to do tired. Next time please give yourself more time and planning, it'll all be here waiting on you.

If, you get a chance to head over to the Western Isles, go to the Isle of Harris, and from Tarbet head down to the village of Leverburgh. There`s miles and miles of golden sandy beaches, all deserted which border mountains. Single track main roads with cottages dotted here and there. The smell of peat fires in those cottages with stunning views of either the Atlantic Ocean or even more stunning Lochs. Crystal clear water.

Isn’t it beautiful? 🏴❤️I’ve lived here all my life and still get emotional like you did when I look at some of our scenery! 💞🏴
@@yvonnemitchell3161 Even in Cumbernauld?
And then a Red Squirrel pops its head around a tree, wagging its tail and making wee grumbling noises. I’ve walked thousands of miles on the long distance paths here in Scotland and it never ceases to amaze and thrill me.
Never been to Cumbernauld! 😊
@ It’s a joke!
Yes, I got that! Still never been! 😊
When I ride around the west coast and the Highlands I am often moved to tears by the unimaginable beauty
A viewer from Taiwan, and I like your cats.
Aww I've not been to Scotland yet so I get why it must take your breath away and feel emotional when you finally experience it❤️
Hope you manage to get up there soon Dave! 😄💕
I’ve lived in Scotland for 45 years. I will never tire of it. It’s a gorgeous country and I’m sooo glad you felt like you did 🏴🇬🇧
So pleased thhat you made it to Scotland and have happy tears that you made it take care and have a wonderful time lovely lady ❤👍👍
Thank you Keith that’s really kind 😊❤️
I am lucky to call Skye my home. I always feel emotional when returning from trips down south. Scotland touches your soul and once it has you in its grasp..............
It gets everyone every time. Special place. I did my first solo trip two years ago after coming with others for over 10 years and now I have to go once every season. I can’t stay away. Solo trips are just so special
I was lucky enough to be brought up near the Trossachs.I hope you enjoy your trip through Scotland.
Great video, I'm from central Scotland but get the same feeling when further up north, glad you enjoyed it !
moved from Holland to Scotland 5 years ago. Traveled a lot (India Australia many countries in Europe). Scotland made me cry many times as well and still does. This LAND. No words to express it, although I am a writer. Thanks for sharing your love for this amazing place. Grtz from Anstruther. Annemarie
What a really, really nice video! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and look forward to watching your next one. Enjoy your adventure. 👍🏻
I live in Dunoon in Argyle & Bute ,just near where you was filming. I moved here 22 years ago but Im originally from Glasgow. Im always amazed by the scenery around me. I do lots of camping up the hills around the area. Breathtaking every time.
Enjoy your travels in BONNIE Scotland 😄
It looks beautiful! And you look so truly happy!
Really was so so happy Chris 😊❤️
Welcome to Scotland sweetheart enjoy it.❤❤❤
So glad you enjoyed my country ❤...From a proud scotsman 🏴
❤ my favourite place Scotland 🏴 xx
It’s sooooo beautiful 😍
Welcome to my country. Take good care of her and she'll take care if you.
You are so brave going solo and I'm proud of you and you're family are going to be too and you are adorable and precious even more for crying ❤
That’s so so sweet thank you! 😊 Can’t believe how freeing it felt to do it. Made me so happy ❤️
I’m so happy to see you went for this solo trip ! I hope you’re proud of yourself. I’m sure these emotional moments and striking landscape will feed your soul and inspiration. Enjoy your journey, take care. 😊
Thank you so much as always 😄 it definitely did its job and inspired me so much! Loved every minute of it. Stayed about a week and definitely going back sooner rather than later 😊❤️
Thanks for the tip, I’ll take a wee trip over from Fife with my bike and give it a go.
Ceud Mìle Fàilte! Very nice video. I don’t normally watch ‘talking head’ videos, but you definitely kept me interested to the end. You showed very well the ‘otherness’ of Scotland with your choices of scenery and music. Haste ye back!
OMG Ellie, you made it !! It’s absolutely beautiful even with the fog!
My husband & I were supposed yo stop in a few places in Scotland on our Disney cruise in 2017, unfortunately we had to cancel due to his cancer surgery.
I’m so looking forward to seeing more of Scotland with you!
Hope you’re having an awesome time!
Please stay safe and be careful 🤗💜
Hey Jan! Oh no that’s such a shame you and your husband didn’t make it to Scotland. It really is a beautiful place. Lots more videos to come and really hope you like them. Had an amazing time thank you 😊 hope you’re doing really well ❤️
Elle, please stay safe,I'll be worried. You're braver than me driving all that way xx❤
Hey lovely don’t worry I’m back after a week now and was safe (for most of it haha) ❤️
Nice to see you so excited. I love seeing the autumn colours ❤ hope you're having a great time?
Had an amazing time thank you lovely! Stayed a week and definitely going back! The colours are incredible it was like walking in a painting or something 😍
Just discovered your channel. I see I'm not the only person who drives at night up to Scotland from the south! It's the only way to miss the traffic! You'll love Scotland - I've driven there and cycled around it several times. Simply awesome!!!
Have been to that location and it's stunning. Very Photogenic.
I've always wanted to see Scotland so awesome you're taking us along, it's like a dream come true.
Aw I hope that you enjoy coming along with me John and maybe you can go there too soon 😄
@@EleanorGraceDiaries Thanks! Ellie, my great grand parents travelled from Scotland to Australia way back, so fingers crossed, until then I'm tickled pink to be riding along with you and Stitch! 😊
No dream where I live, more like a nightmare.
Glad you enjoyed Scotland. Come back again soon. Loving the videos. Very entertaining 👍 🏴 🏕️
I’m so happy for you, and happy that your so happy. Great video, hope you enjoy your many adventures in Scotland. Can’t wait for the videos of your time there.
Thank you so much 😊 can’t wait to show you what else I got up to! ❤️
Come all the way to Campbeltown. You were at the Rest and be thankful. Its around another 2 hours. Scenery is breath-taking and a mountain (Ben) to climb and a Loch to swim in.
Literally worked at black spout 2 weeks ago. Clearing the debris from the walls holding it together. There was a tree with a memorial plaque for someone who had died and we cleaned it up and left it for the family. Love working and living in this country

Oh Ellie, it's so nice to see a sensitive and raw side to you that we don't get to see very often. I am so happy for you that you have finally been brave enough to challenge yourself and get to see Scotland and I cannot wait to see what the rest of your trip entails. Take care and have fun.❤
Aw thank you so much Darren! Can’t wait to show you what I got up to 😊 hope you’re doing really well too ❤️
@@EleanorGraceDiaries I am doing better now than i have previously. Seeing your smile and raw emotions in this video is that life is too short. Please stay safe and enjoy the time up the road in sunny Scotland. ❤
Absolutely beautiful!
The scenery isn't bad either! 🤪
So happy to see you get so emotional over your arrival in the land of Lochs and Legends. Being shrouded in fog makes it appear all the more magical and intriguing. Let the Ellie and Stitch adventure in Scotland begin. Wishing you nothing but a satisfying and memorable journey through such a beautiful part of the world. 🥰
It really is stunning Fredric! Thank you so much for your lovely words. I got home early today after about a week there and it was the best trip I’ve ever done. Will definitely be going back again! Can’t wait to show you what else I got up to 😊 hope you’re having a lovely day ❤️

You can never get Scotland out of your system, been going for 30 years, planning another trip for April 25 can't wait.
Welcome to Scotland, it is a truly magical place, hope you enjoy your travel around ❤
Anything along the North West coast is incredible, and I say that as a Scot 😅.. any of the isles too, Isle of Skye etc.. well worth a visit.
I'm moving there in the next few months. I can't wait. It's a gorgeous country. Can't wait to say goodbye to Widnes!!
I live in Glasgow and I wouldn't love anything more than to just do road trips with someone throughout Scotland and even through Europe.
This is so reminiscent of when I first drove all the way to Fort William from Cornwall in 2005 to climb Ben Nevis. I remember stopping in Glencoe and it took my breath away. Now I live in the northern Highlands but still get that same buzz everytime I drive through or visit Glencoe.
Thank you for taking Scotland to your heart and she will return it 10 fold. I live in Glencoe , you really should try to visit , it is awesome as is most of the Highlands. Welcome and as we say in Scotland....Haste Ye Back. I have subscribed.
Thank you that’s so kind 😊 Drove through Glencoe and stopped off quite a bit. Was incredible! 😍 What an amazing place it must be to live!
Hi Ellie your amazing ,looks beautiful with the fog and mist on the hills ,enjoy your trip and take care🤗
Heyy Trev! It really was stunning. Just got home and so tired haha but was totally worth all the driving. Loved it 😄

Drive from Loch Lomond to Fort William. It’s stunning. Rannoch Moor followed by Glencoe is breathtaking.
The bonnie bonnie banks, glad you liked my homeland appreciate it ✌️
My wife and I have just found your channel and are sitting here at 1am smiling at your passion and enthusiasm for our country 🏴 how long are you here for?
Brilliant - you're hilarious Eleanor - good fun and good company. Now that was worth the drive up and the sleep deprivation. Ha, woke you up for sure once in the mountains. What a great response. Well, good going - new subscriber here. Mark
Wish you could live up here? Welcome to Scotland Miss. It does get a whole lot better. 👍
Oh yeah I’d live there 100% haha 😊
Welcome to Bonnie Scotland,it's a brilliant country to live in.Wonderful scenery with plenty of good walks.Hope you enjoy.xx.We live in the Scottish borders, full of history,Sir Walter scott's courtroom,Selkirk comon riding, dates back over 500 hundred years. If you go on UA-cam ,put in Selkirk common riding you will get a very good preview of what it is like.Take care and enjoy.
The journey was long 😪 but aleast you made it across the border to Scotland ❤.
Such beautiful views and i am sure you agree 👍 well worth it.
Thanks for sharing your travels 😀.
Best wishes Simon and Beth ❤👋❤
Thank you both too and hope you’re having a lovely day! 😄❤️
I miss my homeland. Enjoy it whilst you're there.
Hey Ellie! Wow what a monumental drive to get there and I can’t believe they conned you out of your purple light, it’s an outrage! 😂
What an amazing pay off for that mega journey, such a beautiful place even in the fog, so atmospheric, hope you are having a wonderful time, you’re so amazing doing that trip alone, sending you massive hugs, keep safe lovely xx ❤
I was outraged over the lack of purple lights too Adam 😡🤣 should have been a cheaper room because of that haha kidding 😂. Agree even with the fog it was stunning! I stopped multiple times a day to check out every view I saw lol. Got home today and absolutely exhausted but going again without a doubt! Hope you’re doing really well ❤️😊
@@EleanorGraceDiaries I’m still distressed about purple light-gate, they could at least have given you a torch and the wrapper from one of those purple quality street chocolates, I’ll be writing a strongly worded email on your behalf! 😂
I’m good thanks Ellie, Glad you are home safe lovely, can’t wait to see what else you got up to on your epic adventure xx ❤️
Welcome to Scotland I went camping in Glencoe it's a beautiful place to go enjoy your time here x
A very good Monday morning to you all from Wellington Somerset
Hey Mr Bone! 👋
I’m from Glasgow yet the highlands still twang my emotions up and down. Enjoy😊

Hope your having a great time up north. You always seem to take the bad weather with you. 😆 much love ❤️
Hahah the rain definitely follows me! 😂 It’s the heavy wind I can’t stand and there was plenty of that lol ❤️
