This series is made commissioned by CELT with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to promote woodlands & reforestation.
CELT is a registered charity providing education, training and awareness-raising activities in environmental issues, skills for sustainable living and nature conservation.
Through skills training events and exhibitions we promote traditional skills to keep them alive and relevant to our modern society...and as a way of encouraging community to engage with their heritage in an empowering sustainable way.
Our popular Traditional skills weekend event 'Weekend in the Hills' is focused on offering a wide range of traditional skills bringing together local and national experts in a creative supportive atmosphere that enables a great hands on experience for all participants...including Adventure Bush-craft courses for kids.
We also provide biodiversity surveys, help to plan and install nature trails and offer educational guided woodland walks, with the aim of connecting local communities to their local natural environment via improved access and educational opportunity.

Nobody could have seen the day Andrew left us. Very sad still .... RIP Andrew, your gentle heart and gigantic soul has been a balm for so many of us, and the forests, mycelium, and other nature networks will be falling over themselves to make the nicest bed for your onward journey, Brother. 💚💚💚

I bought a small forest 18.5 years ago. I’ve never touched it, except when a tree fell over the boundary- I cut them by hand just enough to free the public footpath beside my property. What fell is still there creating habitat. No fences. One fallen willow sprouted 4 trees all along its trunk.
Many in the village go for walks past my forest even though it is the long way - each time someone passes I smile, because I am curing their Nature Deficit Disorder.
I tell people I am growing my own virgin forest. It makes me very happy and proud.

This what we came to Ireland to find this summer. We returnred to Mossy Wood near Kilarney to find one crooked yew but they fenced the area off to conserve it. We were there for the first time 25 years ago and still love it. Thank you, Andrew, to keep parts of Nature's ledgers save, we need the capital badly

Great work ! I'm so glad someone is doing this over there in Ireland. I'm based in New Zealand now, but was born in Suffok. Some of my best memories of England were of exploring woodland areas, and finding newts, voles, field mice ands stag beetles. The British Isles have amazing biodiversity, which I didn't realise fully until I came to New Zealand. Two tiny and rare bats are the only native mammals in NZ and we have no snakes at all here.

Ah, but you have the tuatara, the tui, the kakapo, the weka etc, all unique creatures !! Also a great ongoing project on the Miramar Peninsula with the aim of ridding NZ of all the rats. Maybe if St.Patrick had left a few Kiwi snakes, they could have helped with that particular target !

I would like to see other land owners pick up on this. Watershed management can be so rewarding. 20 spruce trees for old Jim.
