    What a fantastic detailed video! I just got the T-zed pretty much thanks to your video. I had a Casio CZ-101 phase modulation synth that I loved. Great tonal ranges on both.

      Glad you liked it! It's a really nice oscillator with great tones, think you'll enjoy exploring it! :)

    This is by far one of the most inspiring and mind opening videos yet. I've been playing around with the 4ms RCD that i recently built, and this demonstration has given me even more ideas as to how I can use it in unique ways. I think I'm going to end up getting another RCD as well as a multiplier.
    Thank you for sharing such useful and inspiring modular information!

      Thank you, that's great to hear! Make sure to check my video on clock dividers ;) And of course enjoy your modular experiments!

    Thank you for the great illustration of phase modulation and the best demonstration of this module to date.

    Informative presentation, as I've come to expect from your wonderful channel. I apply many of the principles and tips you share in my semi-modular synth (Volca Modular). I've found that West Coast synthesis greatly expanded my understanding of sound design in general. Gaining familiarity with complex oscillators, clock dividers, frequency modulation, wave-folding and low-pass gates was mind altering to say the least. Phase modulation and phase distortion are also quite fascinating, so I was thoroughly engaged throughout this video. Thanks for all that you do.

      Hello, thank you for the lovely comment! These kind of messages make the effort worth it, that is so nice to hear! Might experiment a bit with content this year, doing a video on the volca modular is somewhere on my mind :) Enjoy it, and all the best!

    He don't. Fuckin. Miss. Lol I've been blankly staring at Batumi demos explaining phase mode and one simple clock animation here just tied it all together for me. Great job on the Index section too, the breathing effect was really cool.

      Haha, thanks! Glad to hear it helped puzzle things together. Have to admit I had to crunch my brain for a bit around this one to, before I got it right. The people at LA67 where very helpful to :)

    I'm not gonna lie, you keep phase modulating my brain waves with informative and useful explanations. I'm not gonna lie again. Now I'm thinking about getting a thru zero oscillator ;)

    Fantastic video, as usual! However, I was wondering if you (or anyone here) could explain how through-zero phase modulation is different from ordinary phase modulation. I have the Banshee Reach, which also claims to offer TZPM, and it's a great module too, but I still have no idea how its TZPM differs from PM!

    Another great video! Very interesting technique but how does this compare to ring modulation?

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Ring modulation is basically voltage controlled polarizing at audio rates. It's a different proces, but can also lead to similar kind of textures. There's a small section on polarizing/ringmod in my video on the Papomi if you are interested! ua-cam.com/video/5fwIyB23l3Y/v-deo.html

    Great tutorial as always. However, that whine from the oscillator isn't the vibe (audible at 6:14 but not anywhere else). Any ideas of how to remove this whine? I've had similar issues from the z3000 and the 4ms power module. It wasn't until I got a makenoise PSU that the noise disappeared (or was lowered so much i didn't notice it).

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  2 роки тому

      Hi there! A "whine", as you call it isn't from the oscillator itself, but indeed often caused by a shortcoming elsewhere. Could be a power supply, could be a low pass gate (factrols often have some high pitched bleed going on), or indeed a module that isn't responding well to a power supply. Or even a ground loop, my Beatstep Pro is known to cause one. Just experiment with removing different modules/gear, and see what causes the whine :)

    thank you!!! is through-zero the same as linear fm?

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  2 роки тому +1

      Hey there! So no it isn't :) Linear FM is the same as exponential FM, or 1v/oct FM. The only difference between Linear and eponential FM is the amount of frequency chance that happens in relation to the incomming voltage, which is why it has a different sound. But both just increase the frequency with positive voltages, and decrease the frequency with negative voltages.
      Phase mod is like I exlained in the begining of the video. Voltages change the phase of the wave. That happens through increasing or dereasing the frequency to be honest, but it's a slighlty different process, with a slightly different sound of its own!

    How interesting, thank you! Off topic, but could you please recommend a versatile modulation source in 8hp or less? I'm considering Function by Make Noise or Peaks by Mutable Instruments.

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  2 роки тому +1

      Both great options. Peaks is no longer in production, very versatile, but has no voltage control over it's parameters. Function is even more flexible, but a single source, depends on your system if you get the most out of it. Really depends on the features you're after!
