I worked as a guide in sea kayaking and hiking tours under the hot sun of Rhodes - Greece, one of the sunniest places on earth. During the years I made a lot of research using dozens hats of famous outdoor brands. So, as a profesional I can say that the Ultra Adventure hat was the best by far.
Great review! Thanks for doing the work for us. i have looked at EVERY hat on the internet and am convinced SA is for me. You helped reinforce that decision for me. My ultra adventure hat has been ordered and on its way! Thanks for the great video!
What a nice review! Very informative and clear, thx a lot! ps. In the first few seconds, I contemplated on what the arrow was indicating, then I realized it was a part of the background hahaha
I have an old SA adventure hat, and now the Ultra Adventure one, and it is my fave for all the reasons you explain on this video. Additionally, this is a great looking design. I'm not too concerned about great looks when I'm outdoors, but I am an outdoor professional who frequently appears on group pictures and so on. The OR hat with the cape makes everybody look so stupid. I've had many clients sporting it, including some very attractive females, but the moment they put that thing on they can't help looking like a dumb basset hound. Also, if you have a sunny and windy day, the cape tends to flap all over the place leaving your face exposed. I don't mind that the SA Ultra isn't waterproof. I guess that if you're kayaking or fishing you could get the hat wet one way or the other, but for me, if it's raining then it means that the sun is not out, so I'd rather not wear anything, or just wear the hood on my rain jacket.
Nice summary. There's a reason professional fishing guides use a caped hat like the Sun Runner. I had one with a foldable brim making it easy to shove into a pocket when in the trees. But, it is dorky for sure. Debating getting an Ultra Adventure just for that reason, but need to clip magnifying flip glasses to brim for fishing high country lakes and it doesn't do nearly as good a job protecting in the wind.
I used a similar hat as the Sunday Afternoons, and my chin burned really bad. Thinking one of those face covers may be needed as well. I'm not sold on the Sun Runner as I think sun can get at face from the sides.
Nice review and comparison. Try Unigear Fishing Hat. It has detachable flap for side and back like OR, and a detachable face cover for total coverage, as well as bug net and a carrying pouch for less than USD20. Bit heavier thou.
Not really. It hangs off the hat and is blown back by the breeze from walking. Pretty lightweight. Otherwise I couldn't stand it haha! Thank you for watching and commenting!
If you care at least a little, the Sunday Afternoons is probably out LOL! Honestly I go back and forth but I am really sensitive to sunburn. The OR has done me well though.
@@BackcountryPilgrim If I'm ever able to go to a hair salon again, without making a reservation and wearing a mask, I'll mail you mine. Hope you don't mind being a blond.

Good to know! Hard to beat for protection that's for sure!

So glad it helped! Thanks for watching.

Thanks! Sorry about the arrow confusion hahaha.
most helpful video I've seen in a long time :-). thanks!
Glad to hear that!

I like them both for different reasons, and dislike them both for different reasons haha!

Both are good options but pretty different, you might need to try both to see which fits your needs.
Good info! I’m still looking for the perfect hiking hat! I’ve been looking for several years. Seems like it should be so simple but it isn’t!
Unlikely Hiker Outdoor Research has some great options!
I'm not convinced I've found it but I am closer!
Yes they do!
Mike Smith I’ve looked at some OR hats. That would be my choice but I have a small head. I haven’t found one that fits correctly yet

Excellent research & presentation. Thanks
Thank you, glad it helped!
I chose the Sunday Afternoons Ultra Adventure Hat in Pumice... yeah I look like a dork, but skin cancer is no joke.
100000%
And thank you for all the work that you put into your video…I really appreciate it.
Thanks again!

Sounds interesting, thanks!!!
Hi Doug,
So the last hat you presented (white cap with 3 flaps) would be perfect for me if it had better face coverage in the brim.
Cape hats are pretty plentiful these days you can probably find one with a more substantial brim. :)
Great video. Does the neck cape annoy you cuz it touches you? Never worn a neck cape hat lol

Very helpful!!
I'm glad!
Looks the sunday afternoon make a better coverage of the face ?
Overall yes it does. Wider.
Very nice video my man !!👌🏻
Thanks!
Great hats
I agree! All 3? :)
@@BackcountryPilgrim definitely. Though I'd lean towards all water proof...
what about SA Latitude hat?
Nice! I like it but I wanted something with a cape. Thanks for watching!
Personally the third hat look more like japanese ww2 soldier to me. Hehehe
Thanks, that's all I can see now. LOL!
😂😂😂😂that’s what in my mind too
Thnks for the vid but i care at least a little about style. Those hats kinda look goofy. PS.one can make about any hat waterproof.

Or, you could let your hair grow down below your shoulders, like me. Sun protection for the back of the neck and ears too.
Or I could grow it out, then cut it off and tape it to the hat.... :)
