If you press shift + phase that will bypass the entire console 1 on the channel currently selected (instead of deselecting every individual module) making it really easy to A/B your mix. You can also press shift + all (that will select every single channel in your mixer) and if you then again press the same shift + phase combo, you can A/B your entire mix before and after. This is one of the features I really love on the console 1.
I’ve been the US distributor and now we rep them. I love all their stuff. My favorite part of the console 1 ecosystem is that it cures plug-in paralysis. I just pick the desk I want to work on and then just go to work. Once you have the muscle memory in place it works in a very analog way. It saves a ton of time. I use the British Class A the most. The SSL 9K is the second fav. Great Video!!
Well stated! I’m shocked how few instances of plug-ins there are on mixes since I picked up a Mk II about a month ago. Just incredible!
You'll love the new MK3 it's incredible with the OPTIONS for two eq and two comps and new pan / depth controls.
They plan to send me one to check out.
@@BarryJohns Really looking forward to see your review of it when you get it🙂
I bought the Console 1 MKlll over the holidays and I am amazed at how it just simplified everything for me. I’m not sitting there wondering which of my 80 compressor plugins to use for any particular track. I just run everything through the channel strip. Also just bought British Class A and SSL4000E on sale😎
Ayyee you got the full setup 😎
Love the Class A. The 9K is sensational. Some of the flavor of the 4K but much more modern sounding. Another winner is the Weiss mastering desk. It can fix stuff without damaging your mix. It’s based on the exact same code from the $10K+ mastering unit.
@@tedbahas sounds awesome, I’ll have to demo them.
You can do a timed demo on both. nI would recommend checking them out.

I just bought the Console 1MKiii..what an incredibly powerful interface..love it. It's interesting how many folks are jumping out of the box now..tactile feel seems to be coming back around.
I'm editing my first post..this is one of the most effective tools I have added to my toolbox in quite a while...SIMPLY AMAZING is right.
Spoke to my soul, MK 3 came out, looks great, I knew it was time for me to pickup the MK 2
I have the Console One Mk II. I tend to find so many plugins so hard to figure out but not with the Console One. It’s pretty straightforward and intuitive - just twiddle the knobs and listen to the differences. And it works for dozens of UA plugins too.
Glad to see you're continuing this channel. If I were still mixing, I'd seriously consider it with the API channel strip (just my preference). It's worth noting that you can try their plugins without buying the hardware. That includes most if not all of the channel strips. So, people can see if the sound is going to work from them separate from figuring out if they like the hardware interactions.
Yeah best unit in the biz at current used prices 😊 love it
Ive owned the console 1 and fader for a few years. I really enjoy using them 👍👍
I didn't realize they had so many different channel strips. I've wanted one of these for awhile, but that kind of seals the deal! Definitely going to save up for the MKIII.
Great video, thanks! And I completely agree. Softube always seems to make gear (software and hardware) that's inherently musical. But besides that, I have lots of great gear, but most of it has a very steep learning curve, and I prefer to jump into just using the tool and getting on with it. Because of this, I find Console 1 to be incredibly intuitive right out the box. It does exactly what it says on the tin, which I very much appreciate. I wish all manufacturers would follow Softube's lead in this regard. Cheers!
Thank you for that video ! More of console 1 please Sir!
I have this but haven't embraced it as much as I should, in fact almost sold it then I watch a video like this and go dang I really need to learn and get deep into this unit,. I like many have sooo many plugins it does become daunting. But I agree I'm a Softube fanboy and will grab almost everything they make!
Hey Brent, good to see ya chiming in! Appreciate the channel support!
Just bought a used MKII and absolutely love it. Paired with the RA Channelstrip 2. Just need the UC1 and my collection for now will be complete. So now to figure out which fader system I will choose!
I’ve had a Xtouch (the 9 fader standard), and have had the Mk II for a month. They work incredibly well together!
It was so cool meeting you today!
Hey Billy, that’s so cool, you know this has only happened to me twice since I started my channel. Now you know I’m just another guy like you, well I get to talk to a camera and apparently people watch, go figure😜
I love mime, I’m definitely buying the MK3 when the fader comes out
Thank you, this was very helpful... 😎
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Barry, as I see you own Avid S1 and Dock as do I. Would you rather use the Avid controllers as a channel strip or the Console 1?
For me Console 1 is a no go because of no third party plugin support. I own the old Yamaha CMC controllers which is great for its small size. I also own a special Waves Mine S populated with 32 rotary push encoders and a Faderfox EC4 with 16 rotary push encoders and a LCD Screen.
The last two I still have to try out when time permits but I am looking to use one or booth for plug-in control.
ThNks
Glad you posted this! Iv been debating on a control surface lately. I kinda want something with 8 faders. I’m not very knowledgeable on it yet but ideally I’m thinkin it would be cool to automate thru one
Full disclosure if you’re looking for the traditional control surface, that includes faders, multiple faders, you would still need to add something in addition to this. Really the best use of this long-term, and this is something you can work towards is to start with one or the other and then move to the next one later and have it complement the other. Does that make sense?
@@BarryJohns I appreciate that, iv been looking around and was lookin at the faderport but that doesn’t seem to offer automation with protools. And avids controllers are pretty pricey. Is there anything outside avid thats fully compatible with protools?
Thanks for your content!! Btw when you press shift you got 2 additional bands for the eq (its new in MKII).
Have fun! Bernd
Shut the front door! I didn’t know! Thanks!!
@@BarryJohns that's a cool new feature 😊
@@BarryJohns but maybe its only with the core mixing suite...i do not exactly remember - becaus i switched a month ago to mkIII
Hmm I am using core mixing suite at the moment and shift doesn't seem to give two addition bands to the Eq. Source on this please?
Do u use the old MK2?
It seems really nice, but you can only use Softube or UAD plug ins with it. With the SSL UC1, you can use Waves, and other third party plug ins which make it a little more flexible. But I do love the work flow of the Mark III better.
I've been using C1 and C1 Fader for a few years now. While there's been a few hiccups it's been a great experience and having 7 different channel strips to assign to channels it's really a no-brainer. I use it with the Presonus Studio one DAW. Unfortunately my system froze up yesterday just after a Microsoft update and now it's a mess. Wish me luck!
Interesting I thought about Softube, but when for SSL instead as I prefer their interface more. I am curious though, I thought you went back to Avid/ Pro Tools and their control surface a few weeks ago. Did you change your mind?
No, I’m using the Console One in conjunction with the Avid control surfaces.
@@BarryJohns Oh ok understood. That makes sense. I too have tried multiple controllers in an effort to find the best fit. They all have flaws or quirks but anything beats a mouse. I'm old so I need knobs, buttons and faders lololol
I have a question to which I hope to get an answer to. I'm considering buying the mk2 version console 1, do I also need to acquire a uad Apollo twin interface to use uad plugins or can I use uad plugins without the uad hardware? Thanks ahead of time
You’ll need the UAD hardware. I currently have a handful of UADx plugins and don’t own any UAD interface and can’t load those plugins into Console 1.
Have you compared it to the new Icon QCon?
Is it true that some of the UAD plugins are actually developped by Softube?
Yes, Brainworx as well.
Softube C1, or SSL UC1 ?
For me, Console 1, if you are a UF8 user and looking to add their plugin controller, then stay all SSL, if you want options, Console 1.
They have only one free plugin , which comes with console…so expensive to buy all plugins…
What DAW are you using?
Nuendo/Cubase
Acustica Audio is a brand to look out for as far as ITB mixing goes
I GOT THIS A MONTH AGO!
I have to admit, that I'm not a fan of cutting out the breath. Very many does it. But nevertheless I like your videos.
