      Warning: it depends on the quality of the managers at each airport which will determine which kind of officers you will get.
      Note: Piss poor management in control of opertaions will make moral drop which will cause the officers moral and integrity to drop. Used to work for the TSA and was one of the good officers who showed compassion and care to each traveler which changed their prospective on most TSA officers. Management at the Dulles airport was cruel and abusive towards me so I resigned.
      I also was a veteran of the United States Army and Served my nation well without regret and wanted to continue to serve each american as I have sworn to do when I signed up for TSA. Too bad management did not appreciate me when they had me which is a kick in the groin of each American non American citizen and TSO. I also raised the moral by assisting other officers to ease their daily lives working at Dulles when they forgot or were not certain on how to go about things.

    Usually its a quick process, pat down and swab of chair. Last year I flew and a new agent was being trained so I got the full treatment, the guy practically put his finger up my butt.. I was pissed and made sure they knew it. I also usse a power chair. I will be flying this weekend and will also video it for others to learn from.. Good luck ! great vids.. subscribed

    Thanks for posting this video. its nice to be able to see how this process works. my dad is 100 percent disable and i wasn't even sure if he was able to get on a plane with his power chair.

    • @VeronicaAndBradMorris
      @VeronicaAndBradMorris  8 років тому +2

      To get on the plane, he will have to transfer to what is called an "aisle chair". This is a narrow wheelchair that can fit down the aisle of the plane. It is a manual chair that the airline employees push, and it has several straps to strap you in so that you cannot fall out. They will take your dad's power chair and put it below the plane. Make sure the power chair is clearly labeled as to how to turn it on and off, release the brake if they want to push it without having it on, etc. If there are any loose parts on the chair (side guards, cushion, etc) you should remove those and take them on the plane with you. Make sure your layovers are long enough for them to get the chair off the plane, up to you, to your next plane, and then below that plane. We like at least 45 min for a layover just to be safe.

    • @wendyannh
      @wendyannh 7 років тому

      Actually, you do not need to have your chair returned to you during
      layovers; you can request a chair from the airport. That is generally a
      more efficient way to do things, as I understand it; I have yet to fly
      with my own chair so I can't say from personal experience yet, but
      having to wait to get the chair and then again to gate-check it again
      could take a lot longer.
      Baggage handlers are also not *allowed*
      to ride people's own chairs or steer them at all with the controller,
      and are *required* to release the clutch, and to push them and lift them
      as necessary, although one hears about them violating these procedures
      all the time. I know people who fully remove the controllers before
      turning the chair over in order to protect it, especially with complex
      power chairs which have much more complicated electronics.
      Also,
      some batteries need to be removed and specially stowed. I don't know
      enough about this subject to say more, but each airline has their own
      requirements, and you've got to know what kind of batteries your own
      chair has.

    • @owtena
      @owtena 2 роки тому

      @@wendyannh it's been 4 years, but I'll answer :D I think 45 minutes is not to have your chair back and then to go with it into the next fly, but it's minimum time to unload the planes luggage and to be able to transfer it to the next plane. It's the same with usual luggage and when I was flying home thru a large airport they didn't have time to do it (to unload and transfer my luggage to my next fly and it was around 40 minutes between my planes) and I received it only the next day. But it was just my luggage so not a big deal, but with a chair it IS a big deal.

    Which airport was this? I've been through this type of check. Some people describe horrific experiences, but mine was like what you showed here! In addition to the chair check & gentle pat down, they're usually even kind enough to swab my brace/shoes so as not to cause me further discomfort by taking them off due to my chronic pain. Once they even showed me how the swabs go through a machine that checks for gun power & other suspicious substances so I'd understand what they were doing to me. I also just have to show them the scar where I have an implanted medical device. I don't go on planes often b/c we are serious road warriors, lol, but never had a bad TSA issue. Ty for posting this! Ppl need to see that TSA wheelchair checks are more often no big deal than problematic! I wish I'd get checked like this at other places with metal detectors (i.e. concerts, sporting events, etc.) where they just wave me through b/c that means anyone can pose as disabled & sneak dangerous stuff inside.

    I saw them do this same thing to an 86 year old man in a wheelchair only they made him get out of his chair and stand there, wobbling on his cane, while they swabbed his chair and started to pat him down at the Vegas airport. How do these TSA creeps sleep at night?

    • @VeronicaAndBradMorris
      @VeronicaAndBradMorris  7 років тому +6

      Brad had that experience once, where they made him get out of his wheelchair. It was a disaster! Never again, now he insists he has to remain in his chair. But I don't feel anger towards the TSA individuals-- they are just doing a job, and an unpleasant one at that.

    • @courtr1588
      @courtr1588 7 років тому

      I'm surprised that they did all of that. I had my very first flight last July and was so nervous of dealing with the TSA. I got a super nice lady. She asked me what all of my physical limitations were and swabbed the seat of my rental scooter along with patting me down, and then I was on my way. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if I got lucky or things were that way because my hometown (where I caught my flight) was the headquarters of the airline I flew with, but I really hope that if I take another flight in the future that it goes this smoothly.

    I know people disagree with this along with searching children and elderly people. But if airport security didn’t do these searches on everybody, smugglers would use those who are excluded from searches. So just a necessary evil unfortunately. As long as they do their job professionally and courteously that’s what matters.

    • @VeronicaAndBradMorris
      @VeronicaAndBradMorris  7 років тому

      I don't remember which airline it was, probably United? Or US Air? But the airline doesn't have anything to do with the screening. We have flown on normal sized planes and on a couple of smaller planes (about 60 seats). The only thing we did was flip up the footrest and move the head rest so that it was down all the way. We didn't have to remove anything else.
      The brown tape on the chair holds a picture of Brad (to make it more personal and maybe they'd treat it better) and instructions on how to carry the chair (Brad's chair needs to be held by the base, NOT by the chair part), and an approximate weight of the chair so they could be aware.
      The only problem we had was in Santa Barbara when we arrived they couldn't figure out how to get the chair from the luggage loading thingie down to the ground (a like 2 ft drop). They ended up getting four guys to carry it that small distance, and they struggled a LOT. They were ready for us on the way home with a lift. But Brad's chair is extremely heavy as it is tilt/recline and lifts up 8 inches. Permobil M300, weighing about 350 lbs.
