Hey JB loved the video great info! We literally thought the thumbnail was of our rig. We pull a 2022 Mobile Suites 41RKSB4 with a 2020 F450 and a B&W 25K. I can absolutely say the truck handles the trailer very well. Two big things DRV did really well to help with this is the Kodiak disc brakes instead of drums and the independent suspension. Plenty of stopping power and an extremely smooth ride makes this setup a dream to pull. We were hesitant at first leaning towards a Volvo but are extremely happy with our decision. Feel free to check it out on our page!
Great video and explanation! For a personal use Rv ,a dually seems to be the best tow vehicle for pretty much anything bumper pull or 5 th wheel. I’d rather an f450 400 lbs overweight than a 1 ton within the rating by 500, the 450 has an artificially low Gvwr to keep it in the pickup class. It’s still more capable with its heavier axles brakes and commercial tires.
You are correct, the 450 C/C would have a 16500# GVWR therefore giving this truck a 7300# payload. This would require a non commercial DL. The suspension is different on the C/C however 👀
We have a 44’ Mobile Suite Sante Fe that we pull with a Dodge 5500 dually with a hauler bed. We also get the whole rig weighed every so often to make sure we have the weight distribution correct and are not over weight.
Definitely a dually for in my opinion any fifth wheel if you tow a lot. The reality is the single wheels will do it, some a little better than others but a dually makes a night and day difference.
The manufacturers are keeping the carrying weights lower than they will actually handle. This is to keep the trucks under the commercial threshold. The C&C you mentioned are registered as commercial vehicles.
So I bought a drv mobile suites, dry weight is 20,215 lb. Haven't bought the truck yet, what truck do you recommend? I would rather have way too much truck than be close to limits.
Using any truck under a 550 dually for this fifthwheel trailer is criminal. Any big DRV unit is going to weigh enough to wear out an F-450 in short order. Yes, you may get a year or two out of it, but the transmission and suspension won't take the abuse, especially for long-term use. I'm a firm believer that a bigger tow vehicle is better, and a semi tractor unit is the best vehicle to"safely" tow a DRV fifthwheel . The crazy price of a new heavy duty pickup is enough to make me go straight to a used semi tractor unit with its superior towing and braking capacity. Also, the fuel mileage is comparable to most diesel pickups.
What if you put a gooseneck hitch on the fifth wheel travel trailer to save as much weight instead of having the giant 75 pound hitch. I know it sounds weird but I would rather get a ram 5500 or a ford f550 crew cab chassis cab with a hauler bed because of safety and don’t worry about so much sway
If you’re talking about the fifth wheel gooseneck adapter, that will damage the frame over time especially for something this big. The Reese GB doesn’t have enough capacity although the Gen Y may have a higher GTW/hitch weight capacity for this. I agree, having a C/C for something this big may be in your feature, even some Toy Haulers need them 👍🏾
As long as the gross trailer weight is within the towing rating for the truck what difference does the truck weight make? None. For the price of a F450 you can buy a well maintained class eight truck and be done with it
JB to quote a commercial department of transportation law enforcement officer as long as you are not over on front and rear axle weight ratings trailer axle weight ratings and gross weight rating ( what you are calling gcvwr) commercial officers call it gvwr which includes truck (tow vehicle) trailer and everything in truck trailer food coolers drinks clothing fuel candy bar pack of cigarettes people kitchen sink grandma's rocking chair and anything else you can pack or fit in truck and or trailer stay under axle weight ratings (truck and trailer) tire weight ratings and gross (total of everything) why do people make this so complicated and confusing when it's actually not and everybody says f 450 Ford myself I wouldn't trust a Ford anything to safely get out of driveway let alone put my family in a Ford on a public highway but I get it to each his own...
😆 Ford trucks are definitely the leader in innovation and tech but I prefer to follow the payload. It’s too bad you can’t raise the GVWR to 14800#’s because then the 450 would have enough capacity 👍🏾
Like I said to each his own personally I wouldn't give you a plugged nickel for every junkie pos Ford truck built its your money buy what you want what you like myself I don't like the way a Ford truck looks the way they drive the styling the engineering the fit and finish and especially the international power stroke pos diesel don't care for their gas motors either so you think and buy with your money what you think is best on the planet I think that a Ford is the biggest piece of shit I ever owned and drove and will never own another one. To repeat to each his or her own it's your money buy what you want and like you know you can't fix stupid but you can educate ignorance medicate crazy just can't fix stupid.... Ford (fix or repair daily). Also everybody knows that any of the newer heavy duty trucks no matter the manufacturer is underrated for licensing and registration purposes because some states go by the stated gvwr (gross vehicle weight rating) for the Ford owners we need to spell it out for them to determine how much money the state will extort from you for licensing and registration purposes. And if your commercial like me the licensing and registration is based off your stated (not manufacturer) gvw. In retrospect I've got 2500 trucks tagged commercial for 34000lbs gvw and they are legal if truck weighs 10000lb I can put a 24000lb trailer behind it and be legal in the process. I own and operate 5 2500 and 3 3500 trucks in rv transport and hotshot along with 2 class 8 tractor trailers and yes none of them are ford's they will not hold together and the power stroke will not stay together doing commercial work period I've tried get the best service and dependability from ram cummins and especially the duramax Allison trans combo works best for my business but like I said before each his or her own buy what you like or want it's your money but when your buying those trucks to make you money with the most economical operating expenses with less breakdowns you buy what works best ....
My b&w hitch weighs 213 lbs! 138 for the base and 75 for the head. 2021 ram 3500 level 2 tradesman dually with a payload of 5750. Great video
Thanks I just saw that they have it listed wrong on Amazon, it’s broken into 3 different weights… Very misleading description 👍🏾
My 2020 dually gasser has a little over 6600 pounds of payload. Crazy how the diesel brings the number down about a thousand.
Lol, that Duramax is heavy! Im not sure if the 10 speed is a lot heavier compared to the 6 speed but that’s great payload 👍🏾👍🏾
Great Job Young Man!!!❤

Thanks for sharing, yea the only thing holding the F450 back is it’s GVWR but I see a lot of people towing bigger rigs than yours 👍🏾

I agree, dually will always make things better! My fifth wheel is a good fit for my truck but once you get over 3k for pin, Duallies are the answer 👍🏾
I stepped up to a semi. Pulls my drv mobile suites like ots not even back there. Braking also. Like its not even there.

Loved the Video plus a lot of detailed information !! Thanks
Thanks 😃
I think with drv and luxe most people convert a semi or hdt hauler to pull those because 22k gvwr is just over 1/4 of their towing
Great point, even though Duallies have 30k towing, a fifth wheels pin weight is different from a tag trailer 👍🏾

The f450 cab and chassis would be nice.
A lot of 5th wheel manufacturers put a sticker on the pin box with the pin weight
I will have to start looking for them 👍🏾
As always JB interesting content. Thanks for the work and information.
Thanks Ric, really appreciate it👍🏾

Great advice brother.
Thank you for sharing
Thanks bro, you’re using a dually for a TT 💪🏾

this is 550 territory to be honest
Good stuff..
Thanks bro 👍🏾
Ford got a new 6.8 V8 for 2023 coming out
Do you have a link for this?
@@JB_WhoWork did you get the link
I don’t like it and I really disagree on that one because it doesn’t give you the family of 4 option

My F-350 2020 tow capacity for bumper pull is 20,000 lbs. For a 5th wheel is 32500 lbs.
