I hope so, less than 20,000 to go now. But of course that sounds ridiculous because the first 20,000 took sooooo long to get, but at this rate it will just be a few months. Thanks!
A well deserved plaque, would have been amazing if it was made from wild clay fired in a small kiln build on UA-cam's headquarters parking lot hahahaha. 😂
Congrats on the 80k! I knew when I found your channel that your genuine approach to sharing information, combined with your drive to share your passion would win the day! As far as this video goes,... we live in a tiny house so we have to move 3 things every time we want to do one thing.... Great video!
LOL, yes I understand that. When I first started doing weekly UA-cam videos we were living in a little rented house that was similar. I am fortunate to have that big porch where we are now.
It was so cool to get this tour! Almost like we were there! I've been working at a cheap card table, in the FRONT yard (lol), buckets and bowls scattered in happy abundance. People may think a potter lives here, but it's only me, making mud pies. I learn something new every day though, thanks to you! Getting there!
Thanks! We all start with whatever we have lying around. When I was a kid I made pots sitting cross-legged on the front porch because my mom wouldn't let me do it in the house. Use what you have.
Thanks, Andy! I have a small clay school and every couple of years I get it this clean! You are spot on about always accumulating materials and pots. My biggest challenge is keeping/storing/ displaying 30 years of sample pottery. Every time I winnow it down a student will have a question best answered with a sample I just threw out. Oh well, time to make a replacement.... Thanks for sharing your set-up
Yes I have similar experiences, there is something to be said for having all that crap at your fingertips. I think if my studio wasn't on camera all the time I would not keep it nearly so clean.
Like any job, doing it every day takes away some of the enjoyment and excitement. But I also love helping others to find the joy of primitive pottery and that drives me forward. Thanks.
I wonder sometimes how those ancient potters ever got by at all without credit cards! I have several types of scraping tools, but I always go back to a credit card as my primary clay tool. I've cut one into kind of a gourd shape and it works great. I love the way your studio is laid out Andy. Gives me something to aspire to!
LOL, I think the rib bone can be almost as good as a credit card. Thanks, I think it's a good studio, I sometimes wish it was enclosed when the weather is bad but then there would be more dust concerns so I guess it all equals out.
Thanks Wes, yes it is a constant struggle. And when the weather is terrible I definitely do the minimum so our warm winter weather is the reason it looks better now.
Wes, your studio looks like a sterile environment compared to ours.... LOL! We clean often, but mess more often! If only we could put the whole lab in the autoclave!!!
So cool to see your work space! I found you when I searched for firing pottery without a kiln and I have learned so much since! Thanks for all the inspiring videos!❤
I was thinking it was about time to do another pottery area tour at my place. You are way ahead of me ;-) Mine will have to be an 'Extremely Messy pottery area' tour if I do it now, so I might have to wait a bit... see you in class tomorrow for me or this evening for you.
Thanks for the tour of your studio! Your studio looks awesome! This was a fun video to watch. Haha, that countertop space, sure can get out of control pretty quick. Glad I'm not the only one with that problem! Great video!
Thank you for sharing! I only recently found your channel but it's so comforting to watch. Plus you've inspired my partner and I to give pottery a try this summer. Take care :)
This guy has and makes such good and entertaining as well as educational videos! I just found your channel and I already really like it. Your setup is very organized and you're very relaxing. You earned a new sub today! (: 👍👍👍
I live in Washington and i can't find any clay because it's all sandy and all dirt and ash can you please make a video on this for other people in my area to know how to get clay from this soil and I learned quiet a lot from this video.
I know people who have been successful collecting clay in Washington. What part of the state are you in. I would think glacial clay might be a good bet
Nice shirt. Is it Woolrich or other? Your arrow will start to curve over time by hanging things on it, even light stuff as you have. When displayed horizontally, gravity always works its magic. BTW, nice studio. It would also be interesting to have you add to this video or make another video detailing examples of your collection of historical pottery.
@@AncientPottery Ohhh the "Ring Bell" one? Instead of just painting it on, you could take it up a notch and use clay layered on each other instead. Make it more interesting than just painting onto a flat piece. The background of the logo seems like it could be thrown on a wheel to get all the circles. Then all the letters cut out. And the center pot shape from another piece cut out and placed on. I think it would be a lot more interesting than the other plaque. A lot more involved and if you pull it off would be a really neat looking piece.
Hey Andy, enjoy your channel. I know you get a lot of questions but I guess I need to join the club. Do you think I could fire a pot with pine cones. The large long leaf pine cones. I have a lot of pine cones. I burned some today as a test and they burn fast and hot. I used my Lazer temperature gun and got 900 - 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. I had a metal can inside the fire and took the readings off the can. ?? Thanks Thad
I’ve been wondering about the handles you put on things like the canteen. Is it better to make hollow ones or solid ones. It seems maybe hollow would be hard to make as well as maybe being too fragile. Is that theory correct?
Thanks for showing us the studio! At the rate you're going, that empty space on the shelf will probably have a silver UA-cam plaque in it someday.
I hope so, less than 20,000 to go now. But of course that sounds ridiculous because the first 20,000 took sooooo long to get, but at this rate it will just be a few months. Thanks!
I plead for a golden one😉😍

The black walls look really great. The pottery looks so nice in front of it. 👍🏻
Thank you

It's wonderful you've made a life for yourself around this subject. So you find sharing your passion makes you less excited about it - or more?
Like any job, doing it every day takes away some of the enjoyment and excitement. But I also love helping others to find the joy of primitive pottery and that drives me forward. Thanks.
Andy, you're passionate about your work. Thanks for taking the time to show us what it takes to be a good potter.
My pleasure!
Thanks so much! Organization is a constant struggle for me. Your shop looks nice and well thought out.
I think organization is hard for many people, me included, I have just been forced to do it because I film here all the time. Thanks!

Thanks for another good video Andy! Don and I really enjoyed watching you film.
Thanks Angela, it was a fun experience.
I like toybox feeling of the tools and supplies and themed crates, baskets, etc. You have beautiful treasures.
Thanks
So excited to be in the lair of the Fox!
LOL
Nice tour, it is helpful to see what others do. So much neater than mine. A constant effort.

Messy work place = creative minds of people who get things done. Right???

Thanks Andy for the tour - this was a fun and different video.
Thanks, I like to mix it up a little
That was great! Lots of good advice to follow for setting up a studio and a crafting space. Thank you Sir!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful.

As you know I did a messy studio tour last summer. Like I said in the video, I think all pottery studios get messy. Thanks, see you tonight.

Thanks
Getting back on the trail Andy. Got a lead for some good clay and going diggin again . Test test test !
Nice set up
Thank you
Great Video Andy!
Will there be a Video about the pueblo canteen?
Sorry, no. That was an Ancient Potters Club project that we did in December. I could do a canteen in some future video but it won't be soon. Thanks
@@AncientPottery oh ok nevermind. :)

I don't have a lot of historic pottery, maybe 3 or 4 pieces total. Thanks. The shirt is Flag & Anthem
@@AncientPottery Thank you for the reply- regards.
Good video I saw the paint Brush I made for you it's Deer hair
Awesome. Thank you.
@@AncientPottery your welcome
😎 👍🏼
I wonder why you don't make you logo out of clay? Haha seems like the perfect fit for what you do.
That might be fun. I made a ceramic wall plaque in a video last year and it was very poorly received, so maybe I'm a little gun shy now.

Yes, people do fire with pine cones, totally doable. You are going to need to reach temperatures closer to 1300 F to turn mud into ceramics though.
@@AncientPottery Thank you very much. Hope more videos are comng soon.

Solid is stronger and WAY easier.
Hello andy it,s xingnong ,because of a youtube glitch my old accound was deleted so this is my new account

Man, it's crazy how everyone wants to share their clay with me.
